I think your point is absolutely on point, not intending any pun. What your ultimate goal is and what time frame you're working with makes or breaks the value of these miners. The deep ore deposits are infinite as far as I know, so if you need tons of copper and gold for electronics and you have plenty of time and you, for some reason, what all tier 4 stuff, then these things are worth it because you'll eventually get to the point where you're just playing "pack mule simulator" hauling copper and gold everywhere. If you're just wanting to get a hunting rifle or something akin to that, I would just suck it up and go scouring caves for the copper and gold for the tier 4 stuff needed. Getting resources to then get resources in slower manner is really a net loss in the frame of the game. However, the devs need to come to a decision about all of this. We're having to gather scant resources for things we really don't need in a time frame that's quite generous. If the time for each mission is cut, we need more reasonable tech recipes and crafting time. It's fine and dandy in a 1 week mission to have a slow grinding 80 ore per hour electric drill, but having that same slow drill at 80 ore per hour in a 3 hour mission, that's not tech worth grinding for since you're bound to get that on average in the middle of the second hour. Something has got to give in the balance of time, difficulty, and enjoyment of the game if tier 4 is to become a relevant and worthwhile thing to get to.

I hadn't played the game in a couple months and I decided to have a go and explore some of those higher tiers goodies I'd had unlocked. After putting around for a while, I went ahead and grabbed a gold vein and a copper one. I was exploring Styx for the first time and I'd had chosen a spot were caves weren't super closeby and in that many number. And I honestly didn't have that many copper nodes in the ones that were. After I did, I basically didn't mine any other copper and gold node from the rest of the two days of my mission timer. And managed from those deep veins to get enough gold and copper for a couple more higher tiers parts, maybe a hundred fifty electronics all in all. It's... Definitively not as fast as doing it by hand. And maybe that could still be tweaked a bit, I wouldn't be against that of course. But I still found myself with plenty to do, doing the mission, hunting animals for epoxy and mining iron, coal, oxite and silica. I think, giving it a good long thought. It's definitively not really worth shooting for, for faster paced, shorter missions. But it can be a nice boon for longer missions. And something that can definitively be good for outposts and the now added open world. It's a very situational tech honestly.

The only way I will use them is with water wheels so the energy source is also completely passive (aside from cleaning out the trap). The time to farm / create biofuel to supply either the biofuel drill or generator is also not something to be ignored here, neither is the cost of making the biofuel cans for each drill if you go that route as generally you will want 2 cans for each biofuel drill so you can take a full can out with you when you go to retrieve the ore and replace the empty can to restart the drill.

I totally agree with you, it’s just not worth it for the time. The only thing I see it useful for is the outposts like you said. Or maybe the 30 day non payday missions.

Well, the drills don't suffer from pneumonia. So I let them do their thing whilst I go out doing other stuff. Return ever so often to replace the fuel can and take the ores. Also, I haven't yet had an instance where the vein ran out So yeah, it's slower than when I mine myself. However, it's basically an infinite resource, and I don't have to spend time on mining. In my opinion it's a nice addition, which I'm definitely using

I think since this video was made they probably produce more quickly. In open world I use the tier 4 electrics for the essentials (iron, silica, copper, gold, sulfur). Just recently added aluminum, which I expect to only go collect once in a blue moon. Sulfur means unlimited epoxy (for one commenter who asked below). Especially if you are making a lot of concrete, the silica and iron is very useful as a passive resource stream. I just go collect what has accumulated after a few "days". I actually wish there was one you could set up to give you rock (or that rocks were byproducts of mining the other ores) because it is so effortless once you set them up. Super useful after exhausting all the nearby caves and natural surface deposits. Of course now you can Thump, so that is a faster option, albeit not without challenge. @@billdylan1600 Actually, after some thought, I think I was wrong. Instead of being great, I think it would be a problem. I mean, if I set up a drill to get gold or copper or iron, I expect to come back and pick that up - if 20% of the inventory of the drill were rock instead, it would kind of suck. That said, if we could just place a drill somewhere that isnot a deep mining node to get rock, I would like having a specific passive stream for rock. Call it a "quarry". Cheers!

I finally got to try the Electric Drill after grinding to Tier 4, I think it may be ok if you are on a long mission and have allot of other stuff to do while going up to Tier 4 if it's even worth going to T4 that is for what you are actually doing and you might find that there is a lack of resource becoming more and more further away or depleted and you could possibly passively use the drill while away doing other stuff like getting resources for something else that would take a long time while getting some Ore passively for something else at the same time might be a good thing. I did spend allot of time though crafting the T4 Machinery no doubt, but most missions you could probably get away with not going to Tier 4, and there are items you can get from the Workshop that might be just as good depending on the purpose I guess that get repaired after you takeoff and leave the Prospect to use again later in a new Prospect.

I play on the Open world Styx Map. and its nice for that passive income when i have stripped most of my copper out. and while im level 30 still, its nice to have that extra copper for making more electronics. No time limit. Just open world survival building.

I have 215 hours solo in this game and the rewards never seems to be worth the amount of time put in. This is a perfect example not to mention most of the workshop gear is not as good as crafted has some sort of debuff on it or is very expensive. Sorry to say, but those "Voxels" aren't in the outpost maps as far as i can tell. Unless they are a random spawn every time you enter and leave the outpost map. But yes...this would be more "Outpost" related.

well im going for exotics on expedition and i cant find anymore gold nodes i sware its spawning less knowing the quoter you need for composites coz that locks the radar i found it would of been way easier to straight away get a biofuel extractor on a gold deposit just to cash in on the last 60 Eletronic grind

Yeah, I don't see any immediate translation of this capability into solutions or strategies applicable to the current mission set. It almost seems like maybe the initial lack of voxels in the lower tier caves that we experienced for the first two months after launch was perhaps balanced against this capability. Then, it would have seemed like a useful or necessary accommodation, but now that we have so many voxels out there on the map this feels unbalanced or out of place. However, there can be no doubt that it does introduce an interesting new dynamic to the game that could have potential playability. This whole game feels like something that could be so great if it would just admit that it will be in early access for a good while before it can be considered fully "launched."

The only way I would bother crafting one of those is if they had exotics in those deep ore deposits. Thankfully, the exotics extractors are much faster. Ore drills.... Total waste as they are, imo.

The first thing I noticed, after wasting time building the drill and trying it, is they have reduced the number of Titanium nodes on the map for some reason. Some Large caves didn't have any. The only deep mining nodes we found on the whole map that we could get to were Copper & Sulfur ... why Sulfur ... so it was a total waste of time and materials

Thing is, you are probably not gonna just build 1 of this then think it's done, when you are in tier 3, you are gonna have a lot of veins to put this machine on. so just compare how 1 of this machine can produce how much resource is not fair.

This would be more useful if we had missions that took a long like. I see plenty with a 30 days timer that could be done in just one setting. If there are missions that end up being time sinks then this would have more value...just not much is the reward for times not there

Exactly as you say, what's the point?. With no reason to stay in a prospect long term plus the fact you can out mine it in seconds (Also worth noting the waiting time to fill a biofuel can as well) I'd never use it..... I absolutely love this game - but until they do something fundamental to make prospects more (multiple phased missions maybe....) I literally have no reason to log in currently as i have all the toys..... That makes me saaaaaaad...

You do realize the biofuel cans fill themselves up (provided you have put enough organic stuff and tree sap in the composter) without you standing there looking at it, do you? So filling up a biofuel can hardly cost you any time at all...

@@GenieonWork Of course I do mate - when we do Spirit Walk I set 2 composters filling 5 cans each. I take your point I can (and do) go do other stuff whilst they are filling - but its still a time sink. Even (as I usually do) get them filling before I've made what uses them. The game needs more content, more challenge and more reason to stick around in a prospect. Make the veins in spirit walk random at least... Make multi mission prospects with increasing rewards for each one you get done before the timer runs out... So many simple ideas would have a huge impact.

I fell asleep waiting for a gold node return on this one. It's so slow I ran halfway across the map and harvested gold nodes before I finished 1 fuel tank. Pass for me.

For me will be better if they cancel the system of broken walls during rain or storm. Becouse if you have like interior wood, rain and wind will not destroid tham in real life, if it is not some hurican. But i like build house and if i have to all the time just repair all walls and roofs and glass i hate it.
