*VERY IMPORTANT:* Before plucking out the foam go on Microsoft word and draw a table 23 rows by 16 that's how many cubes there are in the case. Then use a marker to fill in the holes that way you can map out how you want to pluck it before you do, I've already bought 4 cases before I figured this out. Also when you're done plucking use plastidip from home depot to help really seal in the foam squares about 7 good coats will make the foam perfect.

I've seen those for about $20-$25 at harbor freight. Just remembered to get some of those 20% off coupons in the upper left corner of their adds (in your "junk mail") & you can save a good amount regardless of what you're buying & if it's on sale or not. Stay sharp.

My knives still in the box go in ammo cans. Throw in a dessicant pack and they are safe from corrosion, and easily accessible if I want to fondle them. Also the cans stack easily in my safe, away from sticky fingers........

I got the same Apache case and I also had a problem with the top piece of foam falling out, I tried double sided tape, duct tape, school glue, and even wood glue,the only thing that seemed to work is a thing called shoe goo I just let it dry for around 2 1/2 days and it held perfectly(the smell eventually went away). And also my Bali’s fit if you just peel both layers of foam and just close it, the egg shape top really conforms to whatever shape you want it to.

I was exactly the same...always had one and in my pocket...now have almost 200 as well and it gets a bit more challenging. I use the spyderco large spydy-pacs which are great. I have 3 large and 1 small filled and a drawer filled as well. Thinking of switching to the hard case...might check out the apache! At least for my higher end ones so they aren't getting flipped around and whatnot when I open the pacs

I just got a pelican case style hard plastic case. It used to be for my projector, which is now broken. I cut the foam so there's just a thin layer of it lining the hard plastic. @ethand.78012 жыл бұрын
Not if you don’t intend on the case taking a beating. If you need a case with strength, then yes definitely spend the extra money. If you need a case that just holds your knives and sits in your room or somewhere in your house you might as well save the money for another knife

Just my two cents I store my knives that are from $1-600 bucks in a drawer or storage containers but I bought 2x7inch zip top bags that I keep them in so they don’t scratch each other but when I want one I can still see them through the bag. For my knives that are 600 and up they get the single folder cases with zippers and are kept in my temp controlled safe

Pelican cases are great for storing and traveling with all kinds of stuff. Great for fragile stuff, expensive stuff, stuff you don't want to get wet, and you can lock them, just awesome although the cheaper knockoffs work just as great so I go for those. I have one pelican but a few STR8 brand, just as good and like half the price. Definitely check them out if our looking for that style of case. I agree on the "betterness" of the pelican to the knockoffs. Unless your submerging totally underwater or throwing it around then you'll be totally fine. Also they make great humidors since their air tight.
@brucebarnes91386 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you may know this already but those kinds of cases draw moisture really badly you need some of the silicone packs in there to absorb any moisture or your blades will Rust

Hey Jeff, really interesting video. I have a couple of questions, I have several of the Spyderco "knife rolls" that I use to store some of my collection. I think these are very nicely made and relatively in-expensive for the storage capability. Also they are readily available at many places online. Do you have any experience with these? What is your take on them? My next question involves storage for fixed blades. Do you have a preferred method or system for fixed blade storage? I think it's a bit more complicated since the size varies SO much. I think some kind of "roll" solution would work, but I haven't found anything that seems to do the job out of the box. Any thoughts? Thanks again for a very informative and interesting video.
