I am in bits watching this. We were lucky enough to have a raccoon encounter before the law changed and it was with Bert. He was amazing and it was an unforgettable experience. A real privilege to be so close to him 😢

It's so unfair that you won't be able to replace the raccoons when these are no longer with us. Excellent video explaining this situation. RIP Bert, you are sorely missed. ❤

I was gutted to see that the encounters couldn't go ahead anymore as it was on my bucket list but I still come and visit and see the raccoons!

It is a shame but it is an understandable decision. The raccoons still make a great display and you can watch them anytime on our app anyways! :)

I disagree with a statement that raccoons can't make a good pet. There are plenty of racoon owners who are extremely happy with having them at home as pets. But it does take a some extra preparation and precautions when one keeps a raccoon at home. The problem are people--not animals. Some people just want a toy and don't respect animal needs. Those who want to be successful at having a raccoon pet, they need to adapt themselves to that animal needs. What's most important is love and being responsible. Many dog breeds are far more aggressive and dangerous than an average raccoon. The number of people bitten by dogs in the US every year is staggering: 4.5 million every year. Yet, nobody tries to forbit/outlaw keeping dogs as pets. Also, cats are very good at killing birds and squirrels, not just mice. Many bird populations have been are endangered by cats. Why not to outlaw cats? And raccoons hunt for rats and mice. As some people say, there are not rats where raccoons live.

Wauw that 'no promoting thing' is such BS. So you had a great opportunity to aducate people and you are not allowed. Yet on social media they are shown as cute and fluffy, without any information. This is the world upside down. What morron made up that law! Yet the circus is allowed to have animals cos it is 'educational', when those are just being abused. 😒

It is frustrating.. but its out of our hands sadly - we even tried to get dispensation ensuring that every talk we give is about invasive species - but that was also a no 🤷🏻♀️ what can you do??
