I've tried canning potatoes but we really don't like the texture and taste. I wish we were neighbors too - I'd join you on some of your treasure hunting adventures!

I've been enjoying catching up on your videos from the beginning and why you call it "Two Turtles Homestead" I don't know because you two are definitely not slow. "The Two Hares Homestead" would be more appropriate for you two. You have accomplished so much on your beautiful homestead in such a short time. Such hard and fast workers. Your house is absolutely beautiful. Love the wood and Jim's expert work. I know I'm going to enjoy you as much as I do Sean's, Nate and Katie's channels. Jim you have turned Nate's whole demeanor around. He is so happy and less stressed. May the Lord continue blessing you both.❤

Thank you so much - you are so kind! We call ourselves Two Turtles because we do take things slowly and rarely jump into anything without fully evaluating and weighing the pros and cons - lol - and to us, it does feel like we're moving slow at times :-)

I love potatoes! I’ve bought them before and when I peeled them, there was a little green. I didn’t think anything about it. I just kept peeling. I guess you could call me the Happy Peeler. 😂. Another fun video! I’m glad to see your channel growing. Take care you two. 😊

I am absolutely enjoying your channel. I came over here from the Kramer's after watching the amazing work you have been doing there. I sure wish you were close to us because I would sure be hiring you. You are amazing with all of your knowledge. God will bless you for the help you have provided. I also follow The Modern Yeoman as well. I live on the KY/TN border, so it feels like I am watching neighbors.

Bummer about the potatoes! I’ve got some drying on my living room floor with a blanket over them. They’ll go in boxes in a back room that’s dark and kind of cool. Great job at Nate’s place too!

Came over from Kramer’s. You two are a delight! Sure hope you aren’t overdoing it over at Nate’s. Shoulder injuries are sure miserable! /// Just get the potatoes covered in a dark cool place. The green is the potato making chlorophyll since they were exposed to light. Some deep spots you may have to cut off but the darkness will stop the potato from generating it. I keep some of mine in paper bags in my crisper. Not lucky enough to have a cellar like I did at my family home. ❤
@twoturtleshomestead3 ай бұрын
We've since put them in boxes under the bed! Definitely a lesson learned! I would LOVE a root cellar, maybe on day!

Why did you name your Homestead Two Turtles?
@twoturtleshomestead3 ай бұрын
Well ... that's an interesting story that developed when we first met and started dating ... Maybe we'll do a video about it :-)

Ps you can also make hash browns, fries, or potato slices (or maybe mashed potatoes!) if you wanted to process them now. My mom blanched them for a minute or so then spread on trays and flash froze them then later bag up or put in containers. I’ve done without blanching as well. Totally agree in canning. Yucko texture! 🤮
@twoturtleshomestead3 ай бұрын
I have thought about that for french fries and will certainly be trying that! Definitely no more canning!

I’m a new viewer, watched ur past video on making ur homemade dog food. I’ve learned pork, rice or corn are NOT good ingredients for dogs. You should stick to chicken, fish, eggs & vegetables. Dogs can’t eat all vegetables, but there are many they can enjoy. I’d delete salt & pepper as well. Research herbs dogs can enjoy and only give herbs that are anti-inflammatory, help joints, arthritis, heart & gut health. Be sure you know suggested amounts for a dog. You can find online. I give fresh lightly cut up *raw or slightly cooked vegetables to my dogs - broccoli, carrots, cabbage, radishes, snap beans - whatever is on hand. Roughage is great for dogs and not so much cooked down and mashed. Infact, I would just give cut pieces of cooked meat, chunk raw vegetables, cooked egg in a toss mix and let ur dog chew it up. Much healthier…..the way diabetics need to eat. The digestive system needs to work to breakdown food - tons healthier than mashed up. I’d only cook down, mash up if no teeth or jaw issues. I think it’s tons easier than mashing anyway. Remember ur making FRESH dog food. It doesn’t need to look like canned dog food. God bless you both. I’m enjoying ur channel.
