Who knew planting cowpeas could be so much fun? Processing animals is a part of life if you want to eat on a homestead. Growing up on a farm in the 60s meant we processed chickens, rabbits, a few ducks, and a yearling calf as needed....not a pretty process but you just did it. I remember sitting on the back porch steps churning butter and later in the day, turning the handle on the ice cream maker....a part of life growing up in the 60s....who knew life would come full circle and so many would be homesteading in the 2020s? Thank you for sharing....I truly enjoy the two of you and your laughter. (And Jim, thank you for what you are doing on the Kraemer home...sharing your expertise and hard labor...saving Nate from making mistakes and thus rebuild is moving along at a Jim-pace.) Oh yes, and I do enjoy seeing Maggie (she is very like my Bella).

Thanks so much for sharing your story! It is crazy that life seems to have come full circle for so many. I grew up in the city (sidewalks and street lights!), with parents raised during the Depression. My mom always had a small backyard garden - that woman could grow ANYTHING! I wish she would've had a KZbin channel - LOL. I could spend a day with her now .... anyway.. thanks so much for your kind words. We appreciate you!

My friend and I started processing sweet corn for the freezer yesterday and today. That's great your hubby helps you process the birds. My friend does it by herself cause her hubby is workin the fields.

That is awesome! We don't grow corn yet, but plan to have some next year. I couldn't process the chickens without Jim!

@twoturtleshomestead I bet. I wish I could have laying hens but my channel requires me to travel and my late friend, Pam's dog who I adopted eats small animals & is not conducive to raising hens.

EEK! Maybe one day you can get some! They pretty much take care of themselves if you have a secure run and automatic door!

Love your channel. We’re another set of turtles currently looking for our forever place in East TN. I can’t wait to be able to buy chickens and turkeys from you to start my little farm.

Can't say I've ever seen team tillering. When it comes right down to it you just end up on your hands and knees in the dirt. That's what separates the real homesteaders from the wanna bes.

I come from the Kraemer Life. What is wrong with Jim's shoulder.
@twoturtleshomestead3 ай бұрын
Jim has a torn Labrum (both top and bottom). We've been trying alternative medicine to avoid surgery because it will have him completely immobile for 6 to 8 weeks. But, looks like he may have to have it soon. We are currently waiting for an appointment with a specialist, should be in the next week or so.
