I used Monoxidil 5% about 4 or 5 years ago. My hairline started to "M". The Monoxidil created a good amount of thinner hair that covered both of the tops of the "M". The hair remains to this day and my forehead is not receding. I went through 5 small bottles of it. Now I will try it on my thinning eyebrows!

Just had rare side effect yesterday. Ended in hospital for angina. Be careful guys if you still have the old foam cans. Because when its coming to an end and its not foaming anymore, it came out as liquid. And i believe i the half a lid cup was equivalent to more than recommended dosage. I had chest pain, trouble breathing and dizziness.

I use Rogaine and have the best way to apply - through trial and error - buy a metal demitasse cup and saucer and keep t in the freezer. When you take it out to apply the Minoxidil, put the plastic can cap inside the cup. When you spray the foam, it will blow up higher in the cap and you will find the very last of the foam will be as firm as the first. Easy and 100 percent of the time, the foam will stay firm and if you're like me, you'll use less to cover your target areas.

As a ski instructor I wear a helmet half of the year and started to see my hair thinning so my dermatologist recommended Minoxidil. In France, 2% and 5% is sold in local drugstores or para-pharmacies. 2% cost 29,99€ and 5% cost 39,99€. I used 2% for 6 Mos and didn't see results. At 5% (usually only sold for male hair loss) for 6 Mos, I did see results in little fuzzy hairs growing around my forehead. However, when I stopped using it, all the results faded drastically. I think it's useful for increasing little hair growth to get the impression of fuller hair, but long term is a waste of money and effort. Maybe the fact my hair is covered and not breathing is part of it. I watched every one of your videos (so informative). Over here in the French/ Swiss Alps, we are exposed to high altitudes, harsh wind, cold and heavy sun. As winter months, snow and ski season are coming, I have another question regarding SPF. I currently switched my regular Roche Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ for the new "tinted" version to avoid using an extra BB cream afterwards. Do you get the same SPF coverage from the tinted? Is there any scientific proof on this? Also, there is a new scientific report on chapsticks (lip SPF's) in France, stating the top 10 detrimental ones including Avene, Uriage, Carmex due to BHT. Could you recommend an effective clean SPF for lips? Much love and best wishes to you.

my videos are often close to 20 minutes...in that amount of time a dermatologist is expected to see several patients, while juggling paperwork, charting, and insurance prior authorization requests..so the short amount of time that an office visit is restricted to is not a fair comparison

This is so true. I come with a list of questions when I see my derm and she has her hand on the door trying to leave within 2 minutes. I hate it. It takes so long to get in to see a dermatologist and when u do, they have to get you out as soon as possible. This is why I love watching Andrea. She’s honest and has the time to tell me important information that my personal derm does not. Not sure what it is about Andrea that has me coming back as there are several derms on KZbin, but I always come back to her.

After watching this video, I ordered Rogaine foam--5% concentration. I think the foam type is a newer formulation. It is my understanding that the foam version does not contain propylene glycol, so if sensitively to this substance is a factor, this may be a good alternative. The foam is very easy to target to the intended area, without having the product drip in unwanted areas.

I have been using Minoxidil for 9 months. Although I had good results for hair restoration I noticed a sudden and severe loss of collagen. There have been many reports of ppl suspecting minoxidil topical as the culprit and the drug companies have denied this is a side effect. One Dr investigated and said no serious studies have been done to verify this is not an untoward reaction. I discontinued immediately am using retinol and self micro needling which of course will take time to know the benefits of. Most ppl are complaining of sudden facial aging sagging jowls and drooping lids. My S/S were so sudden I virtually woke up with redundant skin on my upper eye lids and neck. Also I don’t want to loose the hair I gained so I am trying peppermint essential oils and biotin oral. If anyone else is experiencing this don’t just post it on Reddit report it to a dermatologist immediately.

To all the viewers with male hormones, I strongly advise against using minoxidil. I always tell my male patients that based on the results I have consistently observed (from all of my patients) and that is: the guarantee side effect of minoxidil withdrawal is baldness regardless of your genetic condition. You can watch 1000 different videos from 1000 different certified dermatologists/doctors talking about 1000 different advantages and disadvantages of minoxidil, the underlying truth is minoxidil when applied topically is essentially steroids for your hair. It stimulates growth in an abnormal way and disturbs the male hormone even more. I am going to skip all the more terrifying details about using minoxidil. I never studied minoxidil effects in female patients so I cannot provide any consultation on that.
@MademoiselleBleme
@MademoiselleBleme Жыл бұрын
The product says that it only works as long as you keep using it. So in "Minoxidil withdrawal" (= stopping to use it), it's clear that the patient will go back to their natural balding state. Please stop unnecessarily spreading fear and please have some empathy for people who suffer from hairloss. It can have an immense effect on the psyche - for me, it's worse than when I had acne - so "steroids for your hair" might just be what is needed to go back to the original full hair and happy self. From what you write, I see no reason to advise against it.

This makes no sense because minoxidil is simply a vasodilator. Even oral minoxidil does not affect male hormones -- only potential side effect is heart palpitations, and that makes sense because it is used to control blood pressure. You are trying to correlated hair loss from minoxidil disuse, as a disruptor to male hormones -- which is false and illogical. Now if you were to say that for Finasteride, which affects DHT levels, you'd have a stronger case, but clearly you have shown your ineptitude by correlating an effect to something else without credible logic, facts, or studies.
@bathemeinchampagne

You are not a board certified MD. Your lack of basic knowledge of hair growth physiology, your absolutely astounding nonsense regarding your claim of steroid effects and male hormonal effects ( which hormone are you even referring to ??) is ludicrous not just because it is false but because any qualified Dr would possess the knowledge of biochemistry, endocrinology and pharmacology to know that's farcical nonsense. It's outright BS. Wherever your Mickley Mouse qualification came from you are an outright Quack

Don’t do minoxidil if you don’t know your family’s history on psoriasis. Within 3 months of using minoxidil I developed palmar plantar psoriasis. (I remember having thick knees all my life but didn’t realize it was psoriasis) Doctors need to warn patients about the side effects. The past four years have been nothing but hellish. (I should’ve just shaved my hair and move on with life. If I could change that one decision I would. Being bald is nowhere as painful as having thick fissures on the sole of your feet)

Drying out of the scalp? I used it before and my scalp after I got to the 7 month supply my scalp started drying out. splotchy looking, I had strong effects of hair regrowth fast but I stopped using it since but I just ordered the foam as it seems to be a cure for people in my case. All of my hair up top turned clear blond, so I finally got around to using rogain. When I was using it, all of my clear blond hairs started coming in really dark. but the drying out/cracking/ really wanted to keep using it so bleeding due to dry scalp lol... Really wanted to stay on it for a year at least but that was bothersome. Oddly I still have the same results after stopping use for 9 months which is crazy, but I plan to use it for a life time.. I highly recommend rogain. Going to re try rogain and look into a nice moisturizer for my scalp

I just started recently. I am about a week and 2 days into minoxidil 5% for men. Hoping that it works because I am 30 years old and just start noticing that my widow's peak is gradually becoming a bit steeper, so I am making sure to spread it around especially to the left and right of my widow's peak. I know that it is only FDA approved for hair loss on the crown rather than receding hair, but there are so many stories of guys that have been able to grow thick "minoxidil beards" which actually look good and indistinguishable from a naturally grown thick beard. I am certainly glad it is generic because I picked up a six month supply on Amazon (smallest amount you can purchase for this generic brand). Fortunately, my six month supply was a little cheaper than a 3 month supply of other brands, and I believe it was cheaper than just 1 month of actual Rogaine for Men. I also am looking into supplements/nutritional ways to encourage hair growth or at least slow down or halt hair loss. So far I have a biotin supplement and a collagen supplement on the way.

If I stop using Rogaine in the future, can it negatively affect the hair that was “normal”- ie, the crown of my head where hair has always been plentiful? Thank you, Dr!

g. pea I don’t know if this is helpful, but I just had an appointment with my dermatologist/trichologist, and she said Rogaine will have no negative effects on the hair after stopping. The only people who will see repeated thinning/balding after stopping, are people who suffer from auto-immune disorders like Alopecia. If you do not have this disorder, you will likely see no issues after ceasing use. I was worried about this too.

I'm a 27 year old woman have hair thinning from bleaching it blonde. I don't have an internal hairloss affliction. Would those hairs still fall out or jumpstart my hair growth if I stopped bleaching?

Hi Dr. Dray, I am a big fan and have been following you for a while now. I recently decided to try Rogaine since I'm experiencing hair thinning. However while reading the safety information it stated: Don't use if you are a woman, is there a reason for that? Also are Rogain and Kirkland signature the same exact product? Thank you in advance for educating us and for always being transparent with your followers.

I am a nineteen y/o male and have started to grow my hair out, I've started to notice what I perceive as hair loss. When showering and drying my head there are noticeable amounts of hair falling out, and I think a bald spot may be forming at my crown. Would you recommend the use of rogaine?

I tried Rogaine for 3 days. Starting half way through the first day, my nose started bleeding. It didn't stop bleeding until about halfway through the day I stopped using it. Needless to say, my hair loss continues untreated, and now I am faced with shaving my head to wear a wig without damaging the hair I have left. I wish there was something I could do, but I suppose it has not been developed, yet.

I just purchased the 2% women's version of Foligain. I wish I could have seen this as I would have bought the 5% version then. On the mens version it does say to not use it if you're a woman. I also take spironolactone and have pcos. I am ready to just breakdown from my hairloss... I'm 35 and single too. People who don't have hairloss, they have no idea just how much of a bullet they have dodged.
