For those asking what might happen if you stop taking it or if you're afraid of losing gained hair- just make sure you're doing cycle of at least 10 month. During this period new hair grows to it's peak , gets thick and grown strong within skin, therefore it's less likely to fall out. People who stops taking minoxidil after first 4-7 month, cause they see results and they think that hair is already there , they got their results and there's no reason to keep taking minoxidil and and spending more money , BUT! the hair they got is thin and not fully developed , so if you stop taking minoxidil- it will 100% fall out. Do the full 10-12 month cycle to get your new growth fully developed.

I remember when I started very early at 24 to save my crown. Did not help, made no difference. I stopped. It got worse over the years, I tried it again, saw nothing, more hair fell out (Yes I know about the shedding phase, I went past that for months still nothing) crown completely empty now. Got good coverage in the front, minus temples now, but that took way longer to lose and it actually was worse when I added Minoxidil to it as well and they are not so bad. I am at 40, I don't know what got into my head, but I still take Finasteride and Microneedeling to keep what I have, nothing growing but nothing is lost. I went back on Minoxidil 3 days ago for my crown (only used it for my empty crown) saw shedding again today in the shower after years of not seeing it. Got flashbacks of the failures. I have to stop. I do not wanna kill what good hair I actually do have at the front. I worry, Yes Minoxidil may give me some small results. But if I stop again, all the good front hair will be gone like the back hair. So, no, can't go through that again. Shampoos and Finasteride and microneedling are as far as I go now. Won't risk losing more. I often think Minoxidil was a huge mistake to start off with. I put off Finasteride since I was a kid in his 20s and 30s and was worried about side effects. Started it about over a year ago. Wish I had done that first. But can't deal with that chemical known as minoxidil. Its one of those things where if you are wrong, you lose too much and it never comes back.

Dr. Vikram and Dr. Russel, I apologize if my spelling is incorrect, thank you for the informative videos! I thoroughly enjoy them. Would love some advice if possible. My hair story is this: I started receding at a very young age. A dermatologist started me on Finasteride 1mg at the age of 21 QD. That stabilized my hairline for 5 years. At the age of 26 my hair line began to worsen. He then increased my dose to 2.5 mg of finasteride daily. My hairline stabilized again until this year (age of 33). 3 months ago I was switched from 2.5mg finasteride to Dutasteride 0.5mg daily. Over the past 3 months the hair has worsened considerably. Is a significant shed normal when switching from finasteride to dutasteride? Would you recommend going back to 2.5mg finasteride daily? (I know you are not able to provide specific advice), but would love your thoughts since you lot have considerable experience. Thank you!

I totally lost my self confidence, so I decided to reuse, after 2-3 days of using, I started getting bone pains in my fingers over night, I observed it but couldn't get to know the reason behind the pain that was similar to arthritis, which I had heard from old people... Later I used alternative days, I noticed the pain over night only on those days which I was applying. Fingers, wrist was so painful, I was weeping all nights and I couldn't sleep.. Then I got confirmation about the side effects. Later I never touched it. I have not seen any video on side effects of minoxidil, where they mention mild arthritis???

My hairloss started, or I noticed it, in October 2022 - clumps of hair were coming out and my overall hair when I was washing it seemed sooo thin. I had covid on 7/30/22 and blood tests in February 2023 that showed ferritin at 14 and vitamin D at 24. So the dermatologist stated I needed iron IV and 50000 IU Vitamin D3. My levels were all fine by May 2023. My hair stopped shedding by February, but my overall hair is so much less dense - my ponytail is less than 1/3 of what it was. I do not notice bald spots or really a substantial spreading of the part but my entire hair is overall much thinner. I notice tons of new hairs but the front of my hair under direct light is very thin almost see through and honestly I don't notice those new hairs growing long enough. Is this really TE and not Androgenic Alopecia? Other than my father no-one else in my family has this. I am not on any medication and I am a 50yo female. My hair is not just in patches it is literally overall less hair and really more on the sides of my head. The hair is definitely lighter as well. So how do you determine if this is hormonal from the change of life vs androgen alopecia? Also, it has clearly been two years - so would oral minoxidil even help me?

Hello! Long question but want to give you as much info as possible. I am a 30yo female struggling with hair loss. It started at my left template and slowly over the last two (stressful) years it spread across my hairline. I went to a dermatologist who did blood work and everything came back normal. She diagnosed me with androgenic alopecia even though my testosterone was on the lower side of the normal range and put me on minoxidil. I’ve been using it for three months and while I’m shedding like crazing all over my head I am seeing new growth on my hair line, where I apply the minoxidil BUT it seems like I am rapidly thinning all over and I have a few areas where I am starting to see scalp towards the middle and crown of my head. Can minoxidil cause shedding in areas where it’s not being applied? Or should I use the minoxidil all over my scalp now?
@Dgbygvg2 жыл бұрын
You should definitely fix your adrogen levels. The female body needs a healthy balance of androgen, testosterone, and progesterone! Tackling the source of the problem is where you can stop the thinning. If you research adrogen levels in females, one of the symptoms is hair loss/thinning hair. It's affecting not just your hair, take care!

I have a question. So imagine you are taking minoxidil and you decide to make a hair transplant. You have to quit minoxidil for at least 1 month after the transplant, after that you can re-start using minoxidil again. Will you experience a new shedding phase due to this 1 month pause?

For the beard you need to apply until the vellus hair turn to temrinal hair , if you don't do that the hair will fall down , if the hair turned terminal , then you can stop minoxidil , right?
@Beardology3 жыл бұрын
Not likely going to get a positive response about this from a doctor. Most don't look into the details of minox for beard growth and rely on their knowledge of its use on the scalp. Even with thousands of people documenting their experience and showing that they can use minox to grow a permanent beard we've still had doctors claim it was impossible.

No you’ll shed the hair that was supported by minoxidil only, and then in its place your old hair will come back and you’ll return to your normal baseline. It just takes 3-4 months to come back after the minoxidil hairs fall out.

I hope someone reads this, maybe someone out there could possibly help give me some advice im suffering from what looks like over all hair thinning ,ive went to 5 dermatologist until i figured out it was pointless the only answer i ever got was "Maybe its this, or maybe its that" cried my eyes out and felt like i was completely alone. i went to the 5th dermatologist she sounded pretty confident about my condition she offered to inject a chemical into my scalp (forgive me i dont remember the name ) but its suppose to stop the hair loss because At the time i started to lose hand full of hair and after she suggested i come to her every two weeks i wasn't fond of doing that but at this point i had no choice ...the very next day in the in the morning i started to lose so much hair after conditioning and i panicked. right now, I'm currently using topical minoxidil for about 10 months now, no new growth and sometimes i lose hair when switching conditioners idk why it just does and im afraid of switching cause rn my hair is so thin. what can i do? what do i do? since minoxidil isnt showing no new growth is it for me ? i dont know what condition i have just that it might be Alopecia, or maybe stress.? i have kinky curly hair and to wash hair daily isn't ideal for my hair. infact since then my hair has been dry brittle so after i wash it out i use oil cream ,leave in conditioners but that causes build up on the scalp so i cannot leave it on no loger then 4 hours and when i leave minoxidil on my hair for long periods of time it gives me a headache ...this is kinda sad but typing this is making me feel just a little better because i know im not alone everyone is suffering with the same problem or maybe its a little different but Hair is important to all of us

Is it normal to get vellus hairs growing near the eyes and forehead even though I only applied Minoxidil on the scalp? Will it become permanent if I want to continue using Minoxildil? Thanks.
@Beardology3 жыл бұрын
Yes, unwanted hair growth is a common side effect of minoxidil use. I believe it's even listed on most bottles as a side effect. As long as the hairs remain vellus they will likely not be permanent and will shed once you stop using minoxidil.

Can we also look into the study that says thrice a day application seem to result in generally faster gains but risks systemic problems - what's going on there? This is really the opposite of what the good doctor is saying, plus I think (cmiiw) he also mentioned that once a day was in his opinion based on the half-life understanding and needed to be studied further by revisiting the manufacturer's twice a day recommendation. Yeah when I went for treatment my specialist said hair is like a rent, you will need to pay rent for your hair from now on. If you use minoxidil you need to use it daily. With the finasteride I did not see any decrease in sperm, but I am not intrested at all on that. You should consult a specialist on hair treatment on wheter you should use it or not. For example I had dandruff after using minoxidil, so I also had to use a particular shampoo.

I did what you want to do and I've lost a lot of weak hair while the stronger thicker hair is fine. under a certain angle when light shines on my head you can see my scalp underneath it's really bothersome.
