Idk that it would be terribly useful for coconut chopping , but the cleaver comment , along with a previous mention of your penchant for innovative lock types , put me in mind of my CJRB Crag , with the RAM lock. . It's not serrated obviously, but it is a very inexpensive folding cleaver , with a lock that operates similar to a crossbar lock internally , but releases at the top of the handle , immediately behind the blade . I very much prefer the way it was implemented on an Artisan model , whose name escapes me , but it would be a sharp and possibly useful fidget toy . The RAM lock version was only available with a D2 blade , as was another CJRB model also featuring the same lock . Thought I'd put it out there . I only own serrated utility folders , but those Spiderco serrations look absolutely wicked. 🤔😉

Hey, yea I’m familiar with the crag, I’ve gone through artisan and cjrbs back catalogue several times in an attempt to see if there were any hidden gems that I’d missed out on. The lock on it (the recoil lock) certainly does look interesting, and they started to phase out all their D2 models and replace the newer batches with their AR-RPM9 steel, so a lot more corrosion resistant. Definitely a beast of a knife as some people have called it, but at 6oz I think I would take a pass, also I have some xl kunwu knives that are really great folding cleavers in the sub 5oz territory. But yes good recommendation though

Love serrated knives, I have the Tasman salt 2, matriarch 2, rock jumper and the mantidae

My sog trident is a serrated knife I like it even more bcuz of that. Great topic bro thanks for the video. Cool knives.

While I personally don’t use serrations (besides a saw blade on my multi tool when rope shows up) I can totally see why it works for you. I’ve always avoided due to the fear of not being able to sharpen one. After all edc is very much a user experience and no one can dictate what you need better than yourself! I might have to get a combo edge and give it a shot! 😁 Great vid 👍🏽
@Archetype_EDC2 ай бұрын
Hey thankyou, much appreciated. And yea definitely not for everyone but I just thought I'd put it out there since the general consensus is to avoid serrated knives in the edc world. But combo edge Spyderco's are 👌

Ordered a PM2 Spyder edge. It’s got S45VN, so extra happy! Will eventually get some Flytanium scales.

Its an absolute beast of a knife, uploaded a short of mine just now. Sorry for long reply have my notifications turned off. Let me know what you think when you get it! In terms of Flytanium scales, if you do get some, I'd recommend the shredded carbon fibre ones, have those on my plain edge one and they really are just amazing

Another great topic to hring up. Most not all content creators hate serrations or talk trash. Dummies i say! Not really but thank you for the honest and realistic talk about serrations. Spyderco, cold steel, and CRKT make amazing serrated knives. Check out an XL Cold steel fully serrated blade like a 6 inch Hold Out, voyager, or vanquero. Some nasty blades brother!! Also check out the VEFF serrations that CRKT uses. I want the mantidae to have a more wallet friendly matriarch

Yea its something that doesnt get brought up enough. I think a lot of people equate the whole 'not useful for me' part with them being bad or unnecesary/ruining a knife etc. Absolutely love veff serrations and the story behind them, I do believe the guy behind their designs was a former butcher before turning his hand to knives. Need to read up a bit more on the whole thing. There were so many parts I left out hence why I said I will have to do a more concise part 2, didnt talk about Microtech's serrations, cold steel's ones, and the aforementioned veff ones (would love to get a reblade on one of my knives with a full set of those). Seen a lot of CRKT knives with a full set of them, including the Alan Foults Ritual. But yea mainly was talking about Spyderco's ones since ive spent the most time with them. Definitely will find time in the future to do a more condensed video on the topic 👍

@@Archetype_EDC to ypur point of people thinking serrations aren't useful forget they use steak knives that are basically never sharpened but used constantly for years. I love hearing your stance on the knife and knife use topics as it is similar to mind. I'm honestly glad you didn't mention the other things I mentioned as it is a vast topic and selfishly want you to make more videos haha. My most used serrated knives are from spyderco as well. I live 2 hours from Golden Colorado, USA(currently 940 AM)! I purchased my matriarch from there.

haha yeap another one will go up soon and ill add a bit of research this time instead of just improvising like I did for this one. Lucky you as well living so close to their HQ! If I was that close to it Id probably be making a pilgrimage there at least once or twice a year. Love the matriarch as well, was my first Spyderco (very unusual choice when it comes to getting your first spydie). Do love it a lot but for now its mainly a display/collectors piece. Will like to put it to good use some day and void its warranty by using it for its unintended purposes as an edc knife. Appreciate it anyhow! Have my Cold Steel full metal atlas just touch down into the country so I'll sort out the engravings for that and then get some videos up on it

@@Archetype_EDC yeah it's a great privilege to live centrally in the states. Very excited to see all new content you make I am in between jobs and will start uploading edc and knife content
@Archetype_EDC2 ай бұрын
Being in between jobs is the perfect time to start making content. For me im lucky in that regard because since earlier this year, I only have a series of part time jobs instead of one full time one, so I have a lot more time to make videos (kinda). And yes it is a great position in life to be living there. Its a shame that some people take it so heavily for granted. Thanks anyways bud have a good one

I got a Para3 lightweight with AWT aluminum scales it's my best American made EDC knife for sure but not serrated like yours that looks sick.
@Archetype_EDC2 ай бұрын
Hey man thanks, yea besides its utility I love the way it looks, pretty vicious just absolutely flies through anything you put infront of it. I was thinking about getting secondary scales for this one but I’ve had a few dodgy experiences taking apart para 3 lw’s so decided to leave it as it is. My cold steel full metal atlas just touched down in the country as well finally, can’t wait to get a hold of it soon! Cheers anyhow buddy

I think they look cool, it's just the fact that when you use your knives a lot, they are very difficult to sharpen.
@Archetype_EDC2 ай бұрын
Yep no doubt, after having tried before I can say that im really not looking forward to the day that one of them goes truly dull and needs a proper sharpening. I think having a decent rotation like I do will help hold off on that to some extent, although as with anything the more you practice your sharpening on them, the more the difficultly level will come down a bit, albeit at a much slower rate than sharpening plain edges
