Cheers, one more will be joining the collection soon. Want to see if it lives up to what people say about it (Sage 5 in SPY27)

Spyderco is definitely one of the best knife manufacturers for sure. Not to mention I've never seen a company that can sharpen every knife they put out so sharp.

Spyderco - I find most people love them or hate them, little in between. Me, I love them. They really have not been reaching into the overpriced realm until I would say around 2018 or so. I had no interest in the Smock until I finally purchased one. Now I love it, I really like the feel in hand and the function of it. I see some discussion of the CTS-XHP blade steel in the comments. I just bought a Spyderco Chaparral in Raffir Noble scales as a birthday present for my best friend. I have a Chaparral in CTS-XHP and think its one of the best 5th pocket carries. Its a good steel and Cold Steel used it a lot back in the day. Was happy to Grab a COLD STEEL ENGAGE LAUNCH EDITION in CTS-XHP a couple of years ago. Now I am just rambling... Great video.

Thanks man, the Chaparral with Raffir Noble handles was something I had my eye on ages ago, but ultimately forgot about it. I was also thinking about getting the Cold Steel Engage with XHP recently, the limited edition one in full carbon fiber but decided against it since I know myself, I wouldent carry it due to its size and weight. it would just be a very fancy fidget toy with that Atlas lock on it. Maybe ill consider downsizing and getting one of the smaller ones 🤔 And its all good anyways, feel free to post whatever you want and ramble on, I'll read it and I like to hear from people that have been into the knife world for way longer than I have, I only started March of last year so lots of things I've missed out on. Kinda value hearing peoples lived experiences

I been buying 90% spydercos I trust the heat treatment and I like having different steels to learn about them.

Yea same ive learnt a lot about steels because of Spyderco, also you know you are getting something thats really reliable from the handle to the blade, particularly the way they have heat treated it.

I have a modest knife collection currently with 5 Spyderco models. I have a Bowie, Swayback, Techno 2, McBee and one of the h2 steel salt knives (same steel as your serrated hawkbill in the video.) but I think mine is in a delica pattern or something... I am a big fan of the Taichung Taiwan framelock Spydercos and the highly polished stonewashed CTS-XHP blades they all came with.

Thats cool, I kinda enjoy the diversity of the 3 different main factories and their subtle fit and finish differences. The Taichung Taiwan models seem to have some of the best tight finishes, sometimes overly so and you end up with lock stick and other issues. Ive yet to get any knife with CTS-XHP but I know its a great steel because of its reputation (also its stats on the steel chart make it look pretty good. Would you consider adding anything else to your spydie collection in the future? Also I know the H2 one you are talking about, its called the salt or pacific salt or something along those lines. I was considering getting a fully serrated one of those way back in my early days of collecting before I settled on the Hawkbill one.

Nice, that is a beast of a knife. The Canis I have is currently filling its spot, but still id like to get one in the future. Lets see how it goes, but yea great choice for your only Spydie

I'm one of the detractors I'm afraid there's literally 2 or 3 Spyderco knives I like the look of, I think they are way too over priced and there's companies out there like Vosteed and Kizer that give you more bang for your buck and if you want a premium knife companies like Remette and Kubey give you a lot for the price 😂
@Archetype_EDC
@Archetype_EDC Ай бұрын
Yea absolutely, the amount of options available nowadays is just mind blowing. Not a diehard fanboy by any means but still love what they do. But if you're looking for bang for your buck and arent only buying US made knives, theres so many other companies out there with great options. But still I gotta say what I think, we all have our opinions and just meet in the area of enjoying knives. But I do agree that the price points can be a bit stupid sometimes, the Minijimbo was on my radar for a while till it came out. Saw the price and was thinking that yea ill think i'll pass lol
@marccooper7376
@marccooper7376 Ай бұрын
@Archetype_EDC yeah it's a shame about the minijimbo because that's 1 of the ones I really liked the look of but that price when it came out was not what I was looking at paying so I've put money towards getting a Varatas instead lol

You can always get an Endura 4 lw in pd#1 for $136. Premium steel. Or Endela lw pd#1 for $130. You can find decent prices from some dealers.

The price hikes over the years have definitely squelched some of my appreciation for spyderco, but they still have some reasonably priced models. Im currently carrying a leaf jumper in k390 and for using its one of my favorite folders ever. Grabbed it used for $100, but even new its reasonable. Functionally i dont think you can do much better than an frn lockback spyderco. I especially like the grinds out of seki city. The large selection of steels and consistent quality heat treats puts them above companies like those you mentioned imo. If aesthetics are your priority spyderco is probably not your brand. They are definitely function over form most times. If you just want a slick looking knife with a fun action and pretty handle there are lots of companies doing those. I bet my spyderco out cuts all of them though.

Completely agree with you man. I love the fidget factor on their compression lock knives though. I bought a shaman with m4 and micarta which looks awesome but not worth the $350 I spent. Maybe $150 tops. Also bought the pm3 lightweight which should cost no more than $70.

Do you guys have any lockstick on your compression locks? the lock stick on my para2 is so terrible that i stopped wating to carry it...
@Archetype_EDC
@Archetype_EDC Ай бұрын
I dont have any lockstick on my compression locks now but have had in the past. If you can apply some kind of lubricant to where the compression lock interfaces with the tang of the blade it might help make it go away. Also opening and closing it constantly after applying the lubricant might help

My Para 2 is starting to develop one. Oiling it hasn’t fixed the issue. It’s not so bad and it only sticks when I flick it open with force. Rolling the blade out doesn’t produce the stick.
@DuhYaThink

I’ve had lock stick on a few out of around 170 Spyderco knives. Either turn the stop pin a quarter turn, and clean it up with a q tip and alcohol all around the stop pin. Will definitely help. Good luck 👍🏻
