Good entertaining video. A Question. We have a shower pump below the level of the actual shower, on the floor. The water tank is head high and the hot water tank is on floor level. The shower will not start when it is up on the riser - only when you take the shower head off and bring it down to waist level. Then it seems to cut out after a while. Do we need a new pump?

I know this is an old video but still hoping for a reply 🤣 I’ve just watched a bunch of videos and yours explains it in the simplest way. My question is all videos talk about priming the pump before you turn it on so your purging the air. My thought is after turning the shower on and initial air has passed through there shouldn’t be any air as the cold tank should be large enough to hold a significant supply. I’ve seen people putting aavs on the hot in the loft when the hot supply has been teed in from the top of the tank, which makes sense in that it’s also the vent pipe so could possible pull in air but say you install a pump in an airing cupboard that backs onto the shower and the feeds for the shower are already low down in the cupboard, if you use those feeds for the shower pump would you still need to fit an aav on the hot supply to the pump? My problem is I’m a college trained plumber, not nvq that went on to work on new builds, learned to tile and now mainly fit bathrooms so working on older existing systems is something I’ve never been taught. I’ve also fitted a few shower pumps and was never aware that an aav needed to be fitted, where and why so 11:54 sorry if it sounds like a really dumb question, which I suppose it is coming from someone who city & guilds deem to be a qualified and competent plumber 🤦🏻♀️

I just bought a second hand and untested Salamander shower pump. Advert said it was noisy and I'd like to spin it before plumbing it in, just to check the bearings. Can I ovveride the pressure switch to test it? Lot of hassle to plumb it in and find it doesn't work. Obviously I wouldn't run it for longer than necessary to list to the bearings, but can't imagine it would do any harm with no water in for a second or two.

Hi, our electric pump for the Shower and Bath began pulsing when the hot water was on at the basin. Originally the basin was not connected to the pump but due to the extremely low water pressure at the basin tap we had the basin connected to the pump. Now each time we run hot into the basin the pump keeps pulsing. We paid for a plumber to come and fix that problem. He fitted a Surrey valve which he said should stop it pulsing and we paid £350 for the work. Four days later the pulsing began all over again ? So am reluctant to get this guy back as there was a difference in what he originally agreed to do for the £350 and the fact that he hasn’t solved the pulsing problem. Any advice would be very helpful please ?

Thank you for the video, it is very helpful. I am about to replace a salamander CT50 that was already in the house when we moved in. it supplies two on suite. obviously it is the wrong type, hence stopped working after 2 months. I am putting a salamander BHP 75, the correct one. The question I want to ask is, the pump in already is above the cylinder level attached to the wall, so very noisy, I want to put the new one on the floor so I have all the extensions tubing ready, but is this possible ? or the pressure going to the floor of the ground floor then up to the first floor again 5m away will make it hard for the pump to pick up on the change of pressure when you turn the tap on so it won't work? does my question make sense to you?

Hi, I am a DIY'er.... I have fitted a thermostaic shower in place of an electric one, I have a new central heating system which is a Worcester outside boiler which feeds through to a tank..... the shower is a rain fall shower and requres more water, also the setup is mains cold water and a vented tank and therefore the shower will not operate, what are my options? Go for a non vented tank at great hassle and expense, or fit a gravity cold from the header of the copper tank, and fit a 2bar twin impellar? the pump would be located under the shower almost directly and about a foot under the cylinder and 9 foot under the header tank........ also is there anything I am missing when I have set up the shower, from reading around I gather the reason my show wont work at all is the imbalence of pressure but there are LP HP screws on the shower should I be adjusting these to get it working in the first instance? Thanks in advance Paul

Hi Plumberparts.Thank you so much for your kind, speedy advice. On the piping, I can see a wire 'device' fitted: and I'm sure, upon installation some years ago, that the installer (Oakray) did mention that this device was a water softener. The shower has been working well, but over the past six months an issue with the water pressure was affecting the shower...and now the shower is only flowing for some ten seconds (honestly) and then switches itself off with an 'acoustic' beep from the Low Water Pressure light. Are there any electric shower units with an in-built 'pump' to permit use of a flowing showe?. Once again plumberparts, thank you for your kind response to my enquiry. My best wishes.
@plumberparts9 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Does the wire wrap round and round the pipe? If so it's not really a softener, more a scale reduced breaker-down. They often fail in the end. Ask your plumber to remove the current shower and then turn the open water pipe that feeds it on. I'll put my cats life on it that the flow to the shower is fine and that it's the shower inside that's scaled up. If it isn't, George is mincemeat! Regards, PP!
