I have been planting all my avocado seeds for years and have never used the toothpick method I just stick them into my other growing planters with other plants and they sprout as soon as they come up I give them their own pot it works every time my problem is keeping them from freezing temps last year I put them under my drive port they were full of baby avocados and they all died so this year I’m transporting them both on ground and pots with plenty of mulch and build a wall around them I’ll see what happens I have plenty to experiment with

@@chickentender4037 gday 👋😉 cheers for the info. Yes I found out also that they were mainly sold to commercial growers. It’s okay I’m sure it will come out for sale to the public one day. I now have reed, Pinkerton, hass, lamb hass, feurte and the bacon still. I also have been growing loads of seedlings in pots just as an experiment lol. Ya never know what they will turn into so I thought why not. Plus I live in a cooler climate so I want to see what can do well in our climate. We unfortunately do get frosts occasionally. Another variety I would love to get are the cold hardy mexicola and mexicola grande etc. It’s ridiculous they are also not sold in Australia 🤦‍♀️ They would be perfect for my climate too. You don’t know anywhere that sells them over seas do you? I know they have to be approved and disease free to be able to sell over seas.

@@NMW80 A few years ago I came across a program by a Florida university where you could order scions for grafting. Unfortunately I didn't keep that information and haven't been able to find it since. They provided a certificate for California's ag department as was required for a fee, but the plant material was free, to the best of my recollection. Perhaps you may have better luck (and patience!) than me.

I use the Squirrelinator trap. Buy Model #90,000 since it includes the dunk tank required for killing the bushy tailed rats. It can catch multiple number of squirrels at a time so you are not wasting time by only catching one at a time before having to reset a trap like the Havahart trap. By the way do not ever transport live rodents setting them free elsewhere, this only causes misery for someone else.

Anyone in the comments reading this from Australia can who owns hass or fuerte or any variety other than bacon( I already have bacon) can I please buy some scions from you. I have been looking for avo cuttings for a while. I have rootstock growing so I just need some cuttings. I have spent heaps on my fruit trees and other plants etc already and I have severe health issues so if I can save some money why not. I have to spent a fortune on my medications and supplements to stay alive so yeah if someone could please sell me some avocado cuttings I would be so grateful. I can only seem to find trees already grafted and I am quite happy to graft it myself. I have some other fruit trees too I can grow some cuttings and do a swap with people for avocado cuttings. Also I live in cooler climate and I don’t want to spend a fortune on avo trees when they may die on me anyway. It’s harder to grow them where I live but that’s ok I will give it my best shot and growing them. I am going to grow some in big pots and also in ground eventually when it’s big enough to handle the winters. I am an hour from Melbourne so if anyone could help me I will pay for postage and the scions.

I have loads of seedlings growing in pots lol I’m kind of addicted to growing them now haha. It’s just for an experiment to see what fruit they will produce and if they can hack the cold Vic weather etc. I think my avos may have caught a disease though so I’m so annoyed cos I spent heaps on them. I mean I’m sure if they were in ground they would do better but the clay soil sucks here so I can’t grow them in our soil. They are in pots for now. I want to do some huge raised garden beds for them with good soil one day. We might have to move too so I didn’t want ti plant too much stuff in ground.
