Thanks for this gents. Interesting video. My objectively unfounded reservation about spearhead is the difference in statlines you mentioned behind it and AOS 'proper', but a 2000 point game is such a faff to set up and have space for we only play a few times a year anyway, the board size and game length has me sold. The other irksome thing is the fixed format means despite having seven AOS armies of various sizes in the house we only have units for two complete Spearheads - and neither of them is mine!

A little annoying but proxying between friends is always doable and hopefully sledging those armies out with the necessary models to make spearheads isn’t too much

I was hearing all kinds of rave reviews for Spearhead, but was kind of skeptical as a casual gamer after hearing the same about Combat Patrol. After hearing you guys give it a positive review, I think I will give it a try, as I seem to enjoy all the games you guys do. Thanks guys!

Spearhead is an amazing game! Absolutely love it. Combat patrol on the other hand is complete and utter trash, you can get a custodes patrol with over 800 points, or you could get a space marine patrol with 400 points… seems super balanced 😂

While the points difference in spearhead are similarly all over the place they’ve done a much better job of balancing it with reinforcements and stopping units entering til later in the game etc. we agree though this game is much better than combat patrol and the amount of effort invested is much more evident

Damn i wish and hope aos standard uses a colour coded system for their phases on their warscrolls and the battletomes. Would really make things faster.

It's a long time since we played Warcry but I like that it maps on to the AoS rules and there's no list building.

And to add to what has already been said it’s a bit more dramatic/dynamic looking for me with more models on the board vs smaller warcry warbands, and terrain isn’t really much of a thing in spearhead

Have been watching more about Spearhead this week. First: huge fail on GW’s part for not getting ahead of this more, the player base is learning about it too late to get in on pre-orders. Second: I see lots of interesting, appealing elements here. Seems like a hybrid of standard AoS and Underworlds. IgoUgo still a thing, which I don’t care for, but in this system it seems to work with the interrupt and underdog mechanics built in.

Yeah, definitely to all of that. I expect we'll see a Spearhead box by the end of the summer. It's a happy blend of AoS, Warcry and UW.

Well my dudes had their entire model line removed, unless GW brings them back on a later day. l am on one side unable to play and unwilling to buy more boxes. If GW does bring my dudes back ,then l am willing to try it out . I hope the rules will be free online, because l don't plan to buy anymore books from GW ever. I bought a ton of books to know what the rules and how/what to build my army. Played around 30 games in 3 years , and it is just not worth to pay for so few games to have the army removed.

Looks like all the core rules just came out, not sure which line of models you had, it can be a bit disheartening when they remove your favourite lines though but sometimes that just means a game system isn’t for you I guess 🤷‍♂️

If you look at how GW is changing the Combat Patrol box sets, they are preparing Combat Patrol for a Spearhead like makeover. If you buy the game from GW you get the double sided tokens.

I haven't seen this change. A similar game on the 40k side could definitely drag us in. Though it's a lot of painting for the channel, even with cut down armies!

But do you have to spill £160 to get the boards?

At the moment yes. I expect they'll be made available separately at some point but also I don't really see any reason you couldn't make your own or use one you already have.

They are the same size as Warcry, so if you have any of those boards they will also do the job.

Okay you've made the game sound wonderful but there's one glaring painful downside that is going to keep me out of it ...... bloody sigmarines 🙁

You might be able to sell those? Or wait a while and see if they bring out a box without minis that you can then plug and play with the Spearhead box of your choice.

True, don't get me wrong I'm lawful good by nature but they're it's too much of the poster child you know like the Space Marines the cities of Sigmar with regular humans I'm all I'm more for the Common Man fighting against insurmountable odds kind of guy

Me too. And I think GW have realised that most people are. The new iteration of Sigmarines are a lot more Cities of Sigmar-like.

Why not just use one page rules you can play any model at any point level and the game is the game...no need to learn a special set of rules just get your mates together and play a 250-5000 point game depending on what YOU want to put into it...GW is never going to be able to beat this.

tbh just haven't ever felt the need to try them 🤷‍♂️
