If you get a bunch of Assassin snails, then they will breed and multiply like most snails do. For a 20 gallon tank you would probably only need 2 or 3. But I would take a different route to get rid of snails. There's the chemical called Oh No, it's safe for fish but not invertebrates and some plants. Or you can get some types of fish or gobys that will get rid of snails. If you have a puffer fish 🐡 then the snails could be a food source for it. But you don't have one. I think Tiger barbs are another one but I'm not sure about the name. But you can google it and find out for sure. There are several more but I can't remember all of them. Sorry. But as long as you don't overfeed your fish, then the snail population will stay small and they will help keep your tank clean. They eat algae and the slime off of the glass and rocks and decorations. They also eat fish poop and all of the little bits of food missed by the fish. Their population will only grow to the size that is equal to the amount of food that can support them. I love my pond snails 🐌. They're much more of a benefit to my tank than they are a pest to me. Happy hunting. 😊
