Game six where Bird called it his greatest game, was due to his defense. He read all of the Houston Rockets minds and knew what they were going to do before they even had the ball. He had numerous steals and blocks, and his passing was sublime. I'm not a Celtics fan, I'm a lifelong Knicks fan from back in the '70's, but this Celtics team is probably the best I've ever seen. One correction on what the narrator said. The 1972-73 Celtics actually had the best record of any Celtics team. They were 68-14. Great reaction as always bro. 💯👍💪

@21:29 That is probably the most misquoted moment from Larry. In later years, Larry always showed a lot of respect for MJ. But that wasn't the intent at the time. Not that the words are misquoted. The missing part is that he said that laughing. MJ being out of this world (or any variation on it) at the time was the n.1 excuse cited by opponents after being beaten by MJ. Larry took the opportunity to play his usual mind game, pocking at Micheal and his opponents at the same time. What he meant and everybody at the time understood, was that MJ might be God himself, still wasn't good enough to beat them. It's a power move. Classic Larry. "God may come down and play for your team, but you still have no hope of beating me and my team".
@irishgrl
@irishgrl 5 ай бұрын
EXACTLY. NOBODY called Jordan the GOAT on Larry’s watch-NOBODY. And Larry calling MJ “God disguised as Michael Jordan” after the Celtics just BEAT JORDAN was a true backhanded compliment! Jordan himself has said that his 63 points meant NOTHING bcuz he didn’t get the WIN. And all the Jordan jock riders with all their excuses will NEVER CHANGE THE FACT THAT LARRY *OWNED* MJ. PERIOD.
@tstumpf75

The 1986 Celtics were 40-1at home during the regular season and 10-0 at home during the playoffs for a total of 50-1 at home for the 1986 season. The 1987 Celtics were 39-2 at home during the regular season and 11-2 at home during the playoffs for a total of 50-4 at home for the 1987 season. So for the 2 years, the Celtics were 100-5 at home. The one loss at home in 86 was to Portland. So, on the road trip out to Portland, Bird said he would play the next game left handed. He scored 22 or 27 points left handed thru three quarters. The game got tight and Larry wen to his right hand in the 4th and end up with 47 pts and the game winner. You can make this stuff up. Dude was an assasin.

The hanging doll with Sampson wasn't a racial thing my guy. I know it could possibly look that way and it would probably be considered racially insensitive by today's standards but back then they wouldn't have thought about race. It would just be "hey, their guy sucker punched our guy so we gonna mess with him" But it's only because Sampson sucker punched a guy so small. I😢 guarantee if Sampson was white or a different white guy did the same thing they still would've hung the doll with a Jersey. Being from the Boston area I know how these fans are. They knew basketball and knew what the home court meant and how they could help the team by doing things to get in the other teams heads. They really knew how to make the home court advantage in any number of ways. Loved the reaction, nicely done

The only nba game (and I've been a fan my whole life. I'm old) was watching the Bulls vs the raptors. I'm from Buffalo so that was a go to game. They played in the old sky dome in Toronto. This was the record setting 72 win season for the bulls. The raptors were a brand new team waiting for a proper stadium. i believe the record of attendance still stands. Like 80k or something. Anyway, rookie Damon Stoudamire outscored Jordan 39 36. Jordan hit a buzzer beater but it was called off. Raptors won and they didn't win a lot that year. That was something.

That incident wasn't racist, but against Sampson for hitting Jerry. If Ralph was white, the same thing would have happened. and for racism, much to my dismay we still have it everywhere. The fact the '70's desegregation of schools and the riots that happened in the city afterward damaged it's rep badly. Still to this day, everyone thinks the city is racist, which isn't fair. I know Bill Russell and Robert Parish had issues in the city when they lived there, but they also had problems everywhere they went, especially Russell. So if Russell had issues in Boston where a bunch of white guys throwing stuff at black people, I guess the WHOLE CITY is racist. Don't deal in generalities, that leads to assumptions that can cause the problems that racism stems from. Again, the Sampson doll was against the PLAYER, who hit one of the Celtics player, which, rightfully, angered the fans. In this point, Ralph could be purple with green polka dots, it would have matter, the doll still would have been hung.

I've been to quite a few NBA games and while I will admit that Boston back in the day (just like every city) was racist as hell, it's over exaggerated due to the fact that Boston in the 80s was seen as a "white" team and LA was seen as a "black" team. I've never come across anything like that in Boston. I have in a few places and you'd be surprised how prevalent it is in some places to this day, but the idea that Boston fans are racist is BS honestly. No more so than any other fan base. That idea comes mainly from this time period though because it was easy to hate the Celtics if you just said that they were racist in Boston. I remember those days and the truth is, it's based on a few idiots and when you go to cities like St Louis or Dallas, even Atlanta. Places like that, you see the difference.

I mean hate to break it to you, but there’s well documented player interviews, coaches, & even Boston fans that have mentioned them being racist af in comparison to the rest of other fans. (You can google it, it’s all there lol) but even outside of that there’s plenty of videos you can find of them either saying or having items/signs to add to that. I mean I literally paused the video to say they had a black doll hanging by a noose after the Ralf Samson fight lol. It’s not that big of a deal but it’s pretty true at least at that time in the 80’s. I’d say college sports probably has the worst in terms of racist fans just because more locations but for the NBA Boston got the title lol 🤷🏾‍♂️

@@RareSoulTVI have. I know all about the history. Like I said, I'm not saying they weren't racist. But I give some weight to things like having the first black head coach in any of the major sports in North America and agreeing with St Louis, who were the Hawks at the time, to take Bill Russell so they could have a white player because the fans didn't want a black player on the team. Are you really trying to say that Boston is more racist than a city whose fans actually said they wouldn't support a team with a black player? Especially when Boston then took that player themselves? I'm trying to tell you, it's over-hyped. You don't have to believe me, but I know what I'm talking about. Yes Boston, like every other city, was racist back in the day and you can find idiots everywhere, in every city. But it's no worse than some of the southern cities were. I lived through the 80s and I know what the perception was and I know why it was the way it was. I'm just trying to give you the facts of the matter but you're free to believe what you want, of course.

I'm not trying to be an a$$hole or anything like that, I just happen to know what I'm talking about on this occasion. I'll reiterate, yes there were racist people in Boston, there are in every single city in the United States, but it was no worse than a lot of other cities, but there seems to be this perception, from the 80s when the teams were seen through a racial lens by a whole lot of people, that Boston was somehow worse than anywhere else.

Boston was certainly racist, tho they loved Parish and DJ, but to be fair, Sampson is black, so if you are going to hang him in effigy, it needs to be black. But since you wanna talk stats here they are. If I never saw either player ever play and just saw the stats I just posted. I’m going Kobe all day everyday.

I’ve been to hundreds of games since the 80s for all the Boston teams and I’ve never once heard to racial slur of any kind. You really need to stop listening to Steven a Smith so much I feel like LA has a worse racial history than Boston. I’m sorry I’m just trying to tell the fact I’ve really had it with all this nonsense about how racist Boston isright now it’s the most annoyingly city in the whole country

The whole league when Bird came in was racist. There were not many white guys in the league at that time. That hanging in effigy was not racist everyone in sports did that kind of stuff. White or Black. Now looking back it looks bad but by no means was it meant to be racist. Fans of most teams did that when a player from the opposing team did something bad. I understand why you think that.
