Case closed! Yes, they were the best team ever! The reason I say that is not because no other team won more titles throughout the years. It's because their '86 team did better in a year's time than any other team in history! Many teams have more championships than the Celtics, but no five players on the same team have peaked together on that level of playing within the same year! They had the whole package! They were really that good playing in the most skilled era in basketball!

Red Aurbach put together that 86 team. Through trades and drafts he put together a team that worked so well together. Walton called Aurbach to see if Boston might be interested in him. Bird was sitting in Red's office and said "Get him" when Red asked. Walton went to Parish's house right away to tell him he was there to help not to try to come for his job. When they interview anyone from that team they talk about how much fun they had. Bird was an extremely unselfish player and it carried over to the whole team.

Not only did Larry win three consecutive MVPs from 84-86, he also finished second for the award in '81 to Julius Erving and to Moses Malone in '82 and '83. What I know about West is he is the only player named as a game MVP who was on the losing team. I'm thinking you have to be pretty impressive to earn that. My understanding of his being the image in the logo was that it wasn't named after him or something. That image was selected as symbolic, as a nice looking logo. I recall it being a trivia question as to whether it was an actual person or a mere drawing. And then if you could name the player. I think it's a cool looking logo, timeless.

Honestly I think it's 86 celts. Them 96 Bulls though a very very very close second. Only 3peat MVP Bill Russel, Wilt Chamberlain, Bird! And yes please look into DJ ( Dennis Johnson) he won MVP and Championship with Seattle Sonics in late 70s. then went to the Suns. folks said he was a problem in the locker room, but he went to Boston with a bunch of selfless HOFs and the rest is history. I believe DJ (RIP) and Jeff Hornasek definitely two of the most underrated ever. It was best of 5 ONLY in the first round. That changed like late 80s somewhere in there! and yes Dominque COULD play. He had some help, but never had a lot of help and he still had Atlanta competing. It's just his dunks were so fking powerful, and over people, in the flow of a game. for people that didn't know all they see is the high flying, but he was a tough tough competitor. I was lucky enough to watch him and bird go at it on numerous occasions!

Game 6 in the 1986 finals was Larry’s perfect game. You have to watch it. The team was built organically from drafts, trades and brilliant additions. You heard how Walton called Red and you might know that Danny was playing baseball in Toronto (for the Blue Jays) and the Celtics bought his contract. I am a Celtics fan so I think they played an elevated style and I would call them the best team☘️ I think the current Celtics team are getting close to a championship. They are very resilient but a little young and inconsistent.

The genius of this team was Red Auerbach who assembled them. The only one that asked to come to Boston was Walton and he was down to his last chance at landing with any team so he was Auerbach's greatest find of all. Drafting Bird while still a Jr. in college and knowing he wouldn't play the next year was again a sign of how he built a team for the long haul. This was a super team for in their day there were none better. Lakers were lucky that they had few injuries to their main stars but Bird played big time hurt and McHale and Walton had major foot problems. Look at the bench of the Celtics during this period and all were also team players so that they had quality coming in whoever was being substituted because they knew their individual roles and filled that role for the team. These Celtic teams personified how a team should play to maximize the skills of all 5 players on the court at all times. Most people don't realize that Bird consciously passed up shots for others if he felt they hadn't been involved enough in the play so far in the game. Now go to the other major stars of Jordan, Bryant, and James and how often did they sacrifice their own stats for the team; not much but Bird was only team oriented. I am so thankful I got to watch these teams play while I was young enough to appreciate what they brought to the game.

A playoff between this team and the 98 bulls would be incredible, and i would not bet on who'd win that series. I don't think any other nba team could beat them. Today's celtics are much like the rest of today's league. No heart, not that smart, they don't play to their individual strengths, until halfway through this season when someone finally managed to convince Marcus Smart that he is absolutely NOT the shooter that he thinks he is and needs to play defense and facilitate his teammates. Once he started doing that, they started beating everybody. Right up until game 4 of the finals. With 4 min left in game 4, they puked on themselves, gave up a 5 pt lead in the game, and a likely 3-1 lead in the series and then proceeded to choke away a finals that they absolutely should have won. The warriors did not play great in the finals, and luckily for them, the celtics (especially tatum) played worse.... That's one opinion for you, and it's mine

Yes I do think 1986 team were one of the greatest teams ever. They all worked as a team because Larry worked as a team. Larry also made defensive teams. Larry was very unselfish and always passed the ball to his teammates. Parish said he got 5000 points from Larry. He also said he liked how bird led by example. As far as super team all their guys were either drafted or by trade. Watch more videos about Larry. There were no rest games unless you were injured . You should watch 4 crazy stories that proves Larry bird was the toughest nba player. Larry bird was able to step up his game to that next gear especially in clutch time. He was one steal away from a quadruple double with 9 steals. That was only in the third quarter. he took himself out of the game because they had a big lead. He said they did enough damage. He wasn't about padding his stats. He was always about winning the game you'll see great reaction enjoyed it.

Would i call them a 'Super Team" , YES, they were one of the best teams during the 80's, but so were the Lakers. And to answer your last question, there never has been a Celtics team better then the '86 team. Too be honest i think the NBA now is getting into a state of the pre '80's league. Personally i stopped watching NBA after Kobe died. The league never recovered from that loss. If i watch it now it just looks like a 3 point contest with no fundamentals. These are just my bits. They weren't a "super team" in the Lebron James sense of the term tho. They weren't created like his teams were good players decide to play together to collect rings rather than competing against each other to test / prove themselves. The thing about Bird was his leadership. He didn't back down in crunch time. He wanted the ball in his hands if they had a chance to win. He was fearless. Domonique Wilkins was a career 24.8 pts 6.7 reb & 2.5 assiist player so you could say he was definitely that guy. Playing in Atlanta he didn't have a lot of help though.

They definitely have a case as best team ever because they were flexible. They were a great fast break team. Possibly the best passing team ever and they had some of the best feel for the game as team. It was like after several years of Bird in Boston the whole team played liked him. EVERY one was eager to pass. nobody cared about THEIR numbers. The defense tended to get BETTER when Walton came in and Parish was no slouch, but Walton was an amazing position defense player. They had two long shooters come off the bench so if you tried to double Bird or McHale they could space and rain down from outside. And it was Bird's best all around season.

In the early playoff round it was three out of five, but in the Conference Finals and Championship round it was 4 out of 7, I believe.

Dennis Johnson (DJ) you will love his game. I grew up watching him in Boston in the 80's and DJ was my favorite player of all time! It was amazing watching him play.

That team today would eviscerate today's NBA. My opinion of course but the passing, hustle, shooting, size, they would just dominate. You can't beat that type of hustle/speed and passing. If you watch games from 86, and physicality as well (not today), it was great to watch.

I just read that he also came in second in MVP voting the three years prior to the three that he won. So for six consecutive years he was either the top one or two player in the league. That’s insane

@@andywampler9273 he was top 4 in mvp for his first 9yrs. ROY and 4th in mvp, then 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 3, 2 for mvp. 67% of mvp votes went Larry's way for those 8 yrs. The years he didn't win, Moses Malone, Dr J, Jordan, and Magic won it

The NBA logo is NOT Jerry West. Its a silhouette of someone dribbling a ball. I understand that the person who designed the logo says that he got the inspiration from a Jerry West picture. But the logo doesnt even match the picture from which the inspiration comes from. The logo and picture have similarities but theres also many differences. And you can actually find pictures of almost any player which have the same appearance of the logo. Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, Elgin Baylor, Bob Cousey, Oscar Robertson and many more, all can be seen in pictures looking exactly like the NBA logo. So if the designer never said it was Jerry West.....nobody would be saying its Jerry West. The silhouette is typical of any player dribbling and driving to the basket. If the silhouette was an exact replica of the picture of Jerry West, then obviously it should be said that Jerry West is the logo. But creating a silhouette similar to, but not even close to being an exact replica of a picture of Jerry West, doesnt make it a Jerry West logo....especially when the silhouette has more in common with a few of the players listed above. Until the NBA confirms its Jerry West......its not Jerry West. And the narrative could change overnight if a handful of people would just start saying that the logo is actually a silhouette of Elgin Baylor, Oscar Robertson or Earl Monroe!!

In between the original Big 3 and the last Big 3 was Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker. And yes, the 86 Celtics are the greatest championship team. I love Tatum, Brown and Smart, I still can't believe we lost that series.

The narrator named the other players that got 3 consecutive MVPs. As you paused it. Maybe rewind 10-20 seconds when pausing? So you can hear what's said? McHale reminds me of Frankenstein. 😄 Walton said Kevin could tie his shoes without bending over 😂😂 Ainge was a scrapper. There's another great athlete that played multiple sports in the NFL & MLB. At the same time. He ran the 40yrd at the NFL combine in 4.12. Was an MVP in both sports. Unfortunately his career was abruptly ended. In a NFL playoff game by a hip injury. His name is Bo Jackson. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIfFmpqFbZVoe7s How Good Was Bo Jackson kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmGmi2CuerutrZY Bo Jackson Ultimate Athlete kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2mxoaCDnppsp6M Super Bo kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH-2i2x7gpZjgck Bo Jackson Was The Best Baseball Player & Best Football Player

I would never say this team would be the best team ever, because this wouldn’t be possible if Larry Bird wasn’t there, Bird pushed these players to actually perform above and beyond while not getting sunk by Bird unmatchable raw skills and also the clutch KING. Chicago Bulls on the hand, have several years to choose which year was their strongest, because unlike Bird, MJ had few flaws and the team actually works as a whole.

I wouldn't call them a super team - in my own understanding of the term. Walton and DJ were reclaimation projects. Ainge was just a guesswork trial -- he had been playing baseball for the Toronto Jays. McHale was elevated from a couple years on the bench, getting mentored by Cedric Maxwell. My perception of "super teams" is when stars hook up to form a dream team.

Unstated in this video is that the Eastern Conference was LOADED with great players and teams. It was always much harder to "get out of the East" in the plaoffs at that time than getting out of the West (i. e. Lakers had nobody usually that could beat them).

1st round was best of 5 back then then best of 7 and Wilkens Top 50 player all time... he was a beast....... Best team all time... that's hard... there's a couple bulls teams and a couple Detroit teams and a couple Lakers teams I'd argue.... but they are in the conversation for sure.... hard to pick a best .. I say enjoy each for what they were!
