Breaks are an essential part of the creative process! Once I “finish” a drawing, I like to sleep on it for a day and then add final touches before sending it off to a client or posting on Instagram. I’ve noticed a substantial difference in quality when I take breaks/give myself a mental reset versus when I just push through and “get it done”.

I definitely agree. Especially with taking breaks from using your phone and keeping yourself physically in check. In 2020 I ended up over doing it and it's been four years of struggling to bounce back from a really bad case of repetitive strain injuries at first in my right drawing hand and then my left due to over compensating. Physio and massage helped and the Draw Stronger book was also helpful, but learning to just TAKE A BREAK was the biggest changer. Even taking a break from just having my eyes glued on technology has been a must for me. It's difficult during these times but dang is it helpful. Just putting the phone down and taking a twenty minute to an hour walk can make a difference. I haven't read the other books but I'll be sure to check them out now. Thanks for the recommendations and hope your family emergency has all settled down and is good!

Honestly i vanished from social media due to my day job not art related and I’m struggling to get back on track.. I can only post maybe once a week maybe… some months I only post once that entire month because I’m so exhausted I never work on anything and I’m working on my weight loss journey and that means staying away from my desk and not be sedentary according to my doctor. That part I’m still working on. 😅 but my art is my therapy don’t know how to make that a healthier thing but I’m working on it.

The Draw Stronger and The Artist's Way are such good books!! A must read by all creatives!! Haven't read Atlas of the Heart yet but will definitely give it a read!

I’ve taken a 2 week break from posting videos due to health reasons, but I’ve started listening to lots of audiobooks including the Artist’s Way! 😊 It’s been nice to take a break from everything and just take time to take better care of myself

Just YESTERDAY I was speaking with a friend about different books for artists, and they are mentioned by you or in your recommended list. So, got it Universe, time to buy some of them! 💪🏽🎉 And I am currently in a break this week, even though unofficially since January 😅 I didn't want to accept to take a break but I couldn't produce anything, so in the end I did nothing. But this week I embraced it and at least I stopped to feel guilty ❤️🩹 Your video came in the right moment, thanks a lot for your work and advice!! 🥰🥰

Could you please make a video on how to avoid injuries while being an artist and share if you've ever experienced one? Love your videos btw ^^

I know I'm a complete rando on the internet and a silent viewer, but your dedication to your passion is seriously awesome. I see your videos pop up a lot on my feed and I'm always like dang she is on TOP of it, another new vid! It's probably really difficult having to make all of these videos, doing art full time, and coming up with ideas for content creation. I've thought about trying in the past but the thought is kind of overwhelming for me. You give me a lot of hope and confidence that something like this is possible. Keep up the hard work, you're doing awesome😊

I have an important question. I am doing a graphic novel but I can draw digitally, but not color, so I would like to pay someone to color. Where do I find painters and, since I haven't "patented" my work yet because I haven't finished it yet, can they just steal my work for themselves since they will have access to all the pages? Pls someone help me😢

Draw Stronger is excellent! I've been trying to find a book exactly like that, thank you! 🙇Think Cartoonist Cooperative's holding a Occupational Therapy 101 Webinar this 30th, might be relevant to some people.

this is very “i already have a huge following and word of mouth about my work so the numbers dont matter to me cause i still gain followers” coded advice, but i do agree with the core message. the whole reason we have the desire to create is because we see the creations of others and feel inspired. taking some time every now and then to just consume the things you like is very beneficial. just dont let it turn into social media doomscrolling just to see how other artists are performing compared to you. (i should take my own advice. lmao)
@Scarshadow6667 ай бұрын
Definitely agree! Unfair comparisons are easy traps to fall into, so it's definitely best for artists to be mindful of how they consume other art/media while taking a break (and/or doing other things that don't continue to put unnecessary stress/guilt upon themselves over taking a break too). In my experience, consuming art based on a medium that I don't normally have an interest working in as an artist and/or is not part of one of my strongest skills can help (like if an animator for 2D animation would watch live-action movies/shows instead of animation/anime for a break, or when illustrators watch someone do metalwork on YT or something). ^^

Oh I have the 3 one draw stronger too. 😆♥️👍 My teacher recommended it to me. 😋 Haven't read it in awhile though. 😅 Lately I haven't felt like drawing much but got really invested in my other interests like learning a language (I'm learning ASL) or a musical instrument. 🤔 So I guess I'm already on break? 😅

@@mewTripled thx for the quick response. And if you ever want to learn another language, I recommend sign language as well. It's really fun, like dancing or drawing on air. ♥️😊

I’m in art school rn and my fall semester was really fast , I was hyped and ready to go and I was able to improve incredibly but then I decided to take a break for the winter break because I was about to burn out and ever since the spring semester began all of my drawings are off and idk why , my proportions are off for some reason I can’t observe and simply shapes , it’s been a nightmare for the past 2 months maybe I’m just being too harsh on myself but the last 2 months have been feeling like a giant consumption day that I can’t execute

I take a lot of time for myself because of my mental health. I am working on keeping my mental health under control daily so it takes me awhile to get to my art and projects if I don’t. Or I fall down. So Yea I agree breaks are good. 😊
