I’m from Thailand and I don’t believe that the facial features can tell much. In my country, we can find variety of skin colors and facial features everywhere. It depends on their family’s background. And I think it could be the same in other countries in SEA and a very big country like China where many ethnic groups live together. However, the styling can tell more, although not 100%.

If you live in a country that's ethnicallyy less diverse like korea or japan the features tend to be a lot clearer than in more diverse countries. But there are interesting pictures where they laid multiple profile shot's of people with the same racial background on top of each other. There are some clear features for all ethnicities.

i found it funny the second girl from the left said that chinese people have wider rounder faces and koreans have slimmer faces and then assumed the chinese girl’s picture had a lot of work done in korea?? there’s so many different ethnic minorities in china and even in the states where plastic surgery is less common per capita among asians i’ve noticed the opposite, koreans generally have wider/broad jawlines much like the korean guy on the right lol. i don’t think the whole slim jaw thing was really a beauty standard until korean culture became a fad and beauty standards become a standard because it’s not common, esp in korea

I think South Chinese seem to have round faces. North Chinese have slimer faces. Koreans cannot be told apart by the region but the features. Some people have long face with small eyes but some other people have round face with bigger eyes. No wonder that the feature comes from origins like some ancestors came from the north asia and the others from the south Asia.

@@Igotthis777 it is definitely the opposite even in China. naturally, southern Chinese people have slimmer faces. both Koreans and Northern Chinese people have a high level of facial/buccal fat which is why they’re known for good skin but also having very thick hooded monolids and broader/wider jaws. Northern China and Korea has similar ancestry related to Mongolia so this makes sense

@@exhaustedpotato I don't think so. I've talked to southern chinese people. They said they knew they have rounder face. I didn't ask them. They volunteerily said that to me. Double eye lids in korea are more common than you think. All my family including relatives got double eye lids. I agree that the ratio of korean people with double eyes is slightly less than that of Chinse or Japanese people.

I mean.. if only the geographical location mattered, Russia would be considered Asian, not Eastern European. And Australia wouldn’t be considered a Western country to name a few examples.

Korean and Japanese have a more distinct look. It’s impossible for me to guess them incorrectly. Occasionally I confuse Chinese with Vietnamese or Thailand with Vietnamese, but never Thailand with Chinese.

@@AsianSP ​​⁠I agree that Koreans have a more uniform look amongst East Asians. I’ve also noticed the variance in Japanese people that comes from their “Jomon” and “Yayoi” admixture. Those with more Jomon ancestry usually have bushier eyebrows, their features are sharper, and they have larger eyes. Hiroshi Abe and Ken Hirai might also be an example of Japanese celebrities with higher Jomon admixture.

Absolutely fun to watch, this video! It's so refreshing to find content involving natives from their own respective language and culture; especially with trying to guess different types of asians. Speaking of learning, if anyone's interested in diving deeper into Thai, I've been using apps like Ling and Pocket Thai Master to expand my knowledge. They've been incredibly helpful in making learning accessible and fun. Agree. Bunch of people never been to China and think they know everything. Like China is so diverse and big, and even within the Han Chinese populations there is no one Han Chinese look, and people get all surprise when the Han Chinese look better in some sort of way in their view or is on the tall side (hello Northern Chinese has always been on above average height and tall side since Ancient time too). Also like sharp features occurs naturally in big portion of Han Chinese populations and not even going to need mention Chinese minorities that also exist. Of course we also have people have have more rounded features existing in deeper southern provinces too, so like variety of looks in China.

Good video except for the fact that the white woman has some negative opinions on Chinese people. Like how she assumed the Chinese lady had work done in Korea. She’s also wrong about Chinese people having a wider face, they probably have the slimmest face compared to other East Asians. Especially none coastal Chinese…those people are closer to Tibetans genetically and they have slim faces

Agree that most Chinese on average have slimmer face or small face like they implies more often than not. And some people are so surprised when they go to Mainland China and see bunch of taller people too, they tend to think Chinese are shorter than Korean or even Japanese, but in reality bunch of Chinese and especially Northern Chinese on average are some of the tallest compare to them. Like Chinese are also very diverse range of look as well and most of all don't need work done and look good naturally, and so many of us Chinese/Han Chinese are now mixed of Northern, Central, Eastern, South East and South West, and Western tribes in China, so hard to even pin point what exactly is a Chinese look (since there is no one specific look in China). Also since Chinese Entertainment are not as popular as Korean and Japanese, some of those Western or other non-Chinese people think they know everything when they really don't lol.
