it appears bodybuilding doctrine has entered the domains of rugby strength training.
@bsgrjsbrsqdbarj39006 жыл бұрын
FABRIZIO VITALI if they just do pull ups without weight until they fail it’s not really working on explosiveness of the muscles, just endurance, which is somewhat redundant because I’m pretty sure the main thing they’re trying to get out of gym is power. And if you aren’t working out until you need help to complete the set then you’re not getting as much out of the muscles as they could be. So they up the weight so that they’re working on hypertrophy or power and if they need assistance to finish it doesn’t matter because that means their pushing their body to the limit. Take everything I just said with a grain of salt because I ain’t some fitness genius but yeah that’s the gist of it I think

I wasn't t impressed by the weights they use at all. But they are not power or weightlifters, and they do lots of running, so that maes sense; I'm sure they could be a lot stronger if they only lifted, though.

my dream is to have that body like SBW
@kingofthering33438 жыл бұрын
How tall are you though? He's 6 feet 4 inches tall, which means that he can be that big without looking stupidly out of proportion. If you're within the 6'2" to 6'5" range, give or take an inch, then by all means go for it! But also take into consideration that SBW doesn't build his body just by lifting weights. For his size, he is fairly weak in the gym, and he admits this himself. His max bench is no more than 140 kg. He's done a little bit of boxing too. But yeah, he has the physique a lot of men strive for, so just go for it. You won't look like that by dreaming, you will have to work for it.
@j5f58 жыл бұрын
KingOfTheRing To you who replied; i have to express how surprised i am for this reply!! you were not being rude at all. to start; thanks for this reply. :))))) well to start am not tall lol, just a rugby addict and sbw fan and am 5foot8in btw when i meant body like him didn't mean full but i mean the physique and athletic and healthy. :)
@kingofthering33438 жыл бұрын
benjaav07 You're welcome, mate. But like I said, just go for what you strive for. Don't let your height affect that, you can still be big and healthy. Just look at Aaron Smith, who is about 5'7" and 85kg (which is the ideal weight for 6'0" tall man) and he's in great shape, and is a great rugby player too.
@tang6658 жыл бұрын
how come he has such big arm with only 140 kg bench max?he has like 18 inch arm or even bigger
@kingofthering33438 жыл бұрын
楊錦添 You don't have to lift weights to grow. SBW has done Rugby League, Rugby Union and boxing, all of which are very physical sports. As long as some form of resistance is taking place on the muscles, your body will grow. Look at Anthony Joshua - he's also huge, but most of his exercises come from resistance training and hitting the heavy bag. Some players, such as Manu Tuilagi for example, do a lot of weightlifting and are very strong, but aren't necessarily the best rugby players. As a rugby player and boxer, some of the exercises that SBW would do would include push ups, pull ups and chin ups, hitting the heavy bag and tackling players on a rugby field. He will lift weights as well, but he is not training lift the biggest weight that he can. He's not a powerlifter. But as I said, so long as you are placing resistance on the muscles, they will grow. You can also check out this website: rugbystrengthcoach.com/sonny-bill-williams/

+Daniel Harrison not a problem, but there's no reason to avoid an improvement anywhere you can find it. Diet, training, sleep pattern, anything.
@gurjaapb91098 жыл бұрын
Ill clarify what daniels saying, hes trying to say the way he slowly lifts the bar half way then "explodes" hes trying to mimic the explosive moments on the field, daniel is absolutely right, this isnt bodybuilding theyre training specifically for rugby
@iancoheekelsey8 жыл бұрын
+how2 sports again, I understand that. I'm simply making the argument that one could use "better" technique and improve strength even further. For all we know, they do both and this is only highlighting explosive workouts alone.

I'm a Yoga teacher and think The ALL BLACKS should do Yoga more than they're doing weights and grunting and groaning stuff....these guys are really fast when they play rugger but I think bulky muscles will impede their dexterity/quickness/co-ordination/nimbleness for which they are very known for.... I'm 69 years old and played Rugby for 6 years growing up in Calcutta India for an Armenian Team. We played the British Huns, Griffin, Boffins at the Calcutta Cricket Club stadium. I was Hooker in the Scrum...I've had my share of injuries whilst being at the "bottom of the heap" with Rugby boot studs in my back... But seriously the weight training will give them power but hey American Football players do that plus a lot of them take Steroids..and you saw the very poor performance of TEAM USA vs THE ALL BLACKS .Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, Ronnie Lot and Joe Montana from the all time Champs, the SF 49'ers...these fast runners never took 'roids...I don't think...I dunno... I used to teach Yoga at gyms here in Fresno, CA. and see how stiff these so called "body-builders" are....KZbin and Google Arthur Boorman and Diamond Dallas Page (a wrestler that learned a lot from Yoga and taught Arthur Boorman) Doctors told this ex-Gulf War Parachutist that he'd never walk anymore and after he stuck with doing Yoga under the tutorial of DDP Boormam was able to effin' run...and these asshole Physicians told Boorman he would never walk??????????????? Frankly I'm surprised that this great team are doing this stuff...I'm sure it will impede their quickness and I've seen many of these basically Samoan guys do their stuff on the field...I wonder if they too lift weights though I think its the PIG that they eat...no wonder their HAKA scares the shit out of their opponents...hah hah hah.....for Christ sake they won the TEAM USA but I think 67-6 HOLY SHIT... In American Football (derived from Rugby) most of these guys take 'roids' and the other teams have to do the same to out-push the other "forwards" in AFC and NFC. I've stopped lifting weights and feel a lot healthier not only look good on the outside but what really matters is the health of the inner organs.

Fast runners do as well take steroids

They do a lot of cardio as well though, and as rugby players, they need to be big and strong. So long as they don't train like they're bodybuilders (which they don't) then they will be fine. And anyway, they always use the same training methods, and it clearly works for them. They're almost unbeatable, so I think that they'd prefer to listen to the advice of their coaches than they would yours, as their coaches have got them this far. No offense.
