Something to keep in mind is back in this era, compulsion style training was what was common (not to be confused with balanced training). We’ve really come a long way since then! The primary styles of training I encounter now are either positive reinforcement only training and balanced training. I prefer and use the latter and despite what some may believe, it is NOT the same thing as compulsion based training.

I recognise the late Bob McGarvey in this footage! He judged me with my first Collie (rough) in 1983. This German Shepherd works beautifully! Very happy and willing to work.
