I'm retiring having been an officer for 30 years in a major urban city. Everything you said is true, we have a lot of emotionally immature guys on this job. They are always trying to prove some ridiculous point or another to get an arrest to inflate their numbers. I always tell these guys there's a lot of things you can do out there in the streets but ask yourself is this necessary or wise. I tell these young officers to error on the side of the citizen this is America but thay don't care, everything is blue line ego BS.

@JewandGreek6 ай бұрын
Scottie admitted that he got frustrated because he didn't want to miss his tee time, so he ignored the cop's instructions because he thought that it was a security guard who didn't know what he was doing. Scottie didn't know that it was a cop who was there because there had been a fatal accident and they had to take control of the situation. I don't believe that Scottie would knowingly endanger the life of a cop or a guard, but at the same time I don't think that Officer Gillis was lying about being injured. While obscured by the bus, I think he probably grabbed Scottie's SUV when he took off in an effort to stop him, and then fell down and ripped his pants, which made him angry and led to what we saw in the video. Like Scottie said, it was a misunderstanding in a tragic, chaotic situation, but there wasn't enough there for the prosecutor to get a conviction so they dropped the charges.
@lawrenceshipp28536 ай бұрын
I think you are correct in the details of what happened; however, it does not rise to the level of felony assault because some dumbass grabs hold of a moving vehicle and gets pulled off balance. Yes, Gillis had documented minor injuries, but injury alone, without intent, is not an 'assault' by legal definition. If Gillis had been run over by the vehicle's rear wheels it still wouldn't have been an assault. The charges should have been shut down by the onsite supervisor. There were plenty of eyewitnesses: the defense had them all deposed.

Yep. Where was the onsite supervisor? Hopefully it wasn't that fatass who comes up to the ESPN guy with his hand up and says "He's going to jail and there's nothing you can do about it." As well, there are three or four eyewitnesses who can be seen standing around watching the whole thing with a clear, unimpeded view. Were they even spoken to by the police on site? Clearly they were deposed by Scheffler's lawyer as he references them during his press conference following the dismissal of all charges. Seems as if they could have cleared up the whole thing without any charges even being filed.

Please watch the longer video when Scott is talking to his mom, dad, and agent. The cop leaves his bodycam on the car and then walks away. He fully confessed to knowing that he screwed up. Yes, he's a nice guy, but you listen to everyone giving directions at these events. The dead body could have been over there, away from all the traffic flow.
