All DiZ Scenes (Kingdom Hearts II)

My take: On the one hand, this is a perfectly divided screentime, with half of it being as DiZ and half of it being as Ansem the Wise. The strong characterization and voicework by the great Cristopher Lee himself also carries DiZ / Ansem the Wise through. But on the other hand, this character was pushed in the marketing for the game to the point where more screentime was expected, and as it stands, his time as DiZ at the very start of the game and his time as Ansem the Wise at the very end of the game have absolutely no transition. His character does a complete 180, and we don't get to see it happen - we can read about it in his reports, and we can hear him talk about it, but we don't actually witness it for ourselves, which, much like Riku in the original KH, sadly diminishes the otherwise solid character arc. But still.....it's Christopher fucking Lee, man!

The Mark To be fair his transition was hinted at in the train scene as he went out of his way to give Roxas some contentment, but I agree his character needed a bit more time for that Arc. Perhaps have a scene with him overlooking Sora's actions and realizing things have gone off course. Then later have another scene where he feels guilt over what happened to Roxas and encounters Namine with the opportunity to finish her but in the end can't do it after she shows him kindness.

I think what irritates me the most are the plot holes surrounding Mickey Mouse. The guy literally participated in the fight against Xehanort. He then pretends as though the Wayfinder Trio don’t exist when he meets AtW, and then when he hears the name “Xehanort” he doesn’t suspect anything! Neither the fact that Xehanort looks like friggin Terra. Granted there was a 10 year gap between BBS and the meeting with Ansem the Wise, but it shows how Mickey really did forget about them until Yen Sid reminded him “Oh yeah, these three existed and they’re lost somewhere.” And like, jeez Mickey, you’re a GREAT friend to Aqua.

Somehow, this is what imagine Sparda’s character would be like, if Devil May Cry 6 reveals that he fake his death, prior to his wife’s death, & when their sons turned against each other. Like the reason he disappeared from his family & the world he had protected from the one he came from, was that he was told that Mundus is returning. Before his departure. He told Eva, that their sons must never know what happened to their father, while he was gone. He would travel to Mallet Island, where he had defeated Mundus. It was then that he came face to face with an evil alchemist who Eva once dated, before he married her. Without his powers that he sealed in the Force Edge sword. Sparda was easily defeated by the man who was his wife’s ex-boyfriend. After Mundus was resurrected. He was forced to watch his family die in the wrath of Mundus’s minions. After escaping from his prison. All he could do was watch his sons grow up as orphans, that would later fight for his power. It was then, that not only he failed as a hero. But as a father, who was post to keep his family safe. Over the years. His failure began to affect others, whose lives were ruined. Which makes sense that the Alchemist who took everything from him, was the reason all the friends that Dante has made, were forced to put up with their deadbeat dads. Lady, who’s father became a Demon, after murdering her mother, just to used her & Sparda’s sons to go for the Force Edge. Trish, whose father created her to look like Eva, just to gain Dante’s trust, so that Mundus can lure him into a trap. Patty being abandoned by her mother, despite the Demon CID wanting their family’s powers to resurrect an ancient Demon. Lucia being made as a pawn for Arius, while trying to sacrifice her to resurrect Argosax. Nico, who along her mother, being abandoned by her father, who would help Sanctus to create the Savor. As well Nero growing up all alone as a kid, until Kyrie’s family took him into their home, watching both the parents & Credo died because of Sanctus’s mistakes, & Nero having his right arm torn off by his father, just so that Vergil can kill Dante. Not only Sparda blames the alchemist for what his sons, grandson, & the friends that both Dante & Nero had made over the years, had to go through. But mostly himself. For me, I don’t blame Sparda. He was unaware of what was going to happen. Hopefully for this next game. Nero finds out that his grandfather is alive, while asking him about everything. The two of them would work together to face the same alchemist who drove their family apart, who is now the leader of a cult that worships Mundus, & wants to resurrect him to start another war with the Humans. And Nero is the only hope humanity has left, now that he’s in charge of the trust Dante promised him in the last game. Which is what Riku would do for Sora if anything happens to him.

It was pretty much for the audience, but perhaps it was in regards to what Riku's motivations were. It was mentioned that Riku fell victim to forgetting things about Sora and like Kairi only held onto small fragments. I think when Diz asked for Riku to identify himself, Diz was really asking if Riku remembered who he was and why he was doing the things he's been doing.

Diz was curious as to what identity Riku wishes to go by now that he has given in (or almost completely) into the darkness. He laughed since Riku no longer wishes to be remembered by who he was before he fought Roxas, but Riku's personality hasn't changed regardless. But sure, you can argue that it was also meant to be a twist for the audience that "Ansem" was still alive, while ironically the real Ansem was Diz all along.

Um, his voice is different because it IS different. In KH2, he's voiced by the late, great Christopher Lee himself, who also voiced him in the DS version of 358/2 Days. In every other game, it's Corey Burton doing an increasingly weaker imitation of Lee.

@@GihirahimOfTheShadow Ironic, given that apparently during recording for the CGI Clone Wars series, Christopher Lee overheard Corey Burton doing Dooku lines and even asked the producers why they needed him for the movie lol. Still, I agree, though Corey Burton comes the closest of the Christopher Lee impressionists (especially in Batman: Arkham City), there's just something about his (Lee's) voice that can't be matched. The gravitas, the weight, the range of ham...that will surely be missed.

Because Xehanort was the one who drove him insane. Ansem/Diz knew that Sora is the key to help him getting revenge on his apprentice who betrayed him. But only made him feel guilty for everything that has happened not only to the worlds of Disney & Final Fantasy. But to Sora & his friends. Including Roxas, who he later apologized to in the game’s finale.
