It's crazy how supports can make you reform your opinions on characters. I thought Ferdinand to be a weaker, less interesting, and annoying version of Sylvain, but after seeing his supports with Hubert, Dorothea, and Marianne I took a total 180 on Ferdinand. Coincidentally he started to get way better as a unit after that. Man this game is something else.

Also... in a meta way it kind of makes sense that they wrote her to hate him at first bc otherwise there's wouldn't be any conflict in their supports. Dorothea's looking for a rich guy to take care of her but what she's really after is someone who will cherish her and love her truly seeing her not as a diva but as the scared girl she really is. Ferdie is both.... rich but also cute, sweet, caring, shares similar interests and he did MEET her as that poor girl on the streets.

I think some of her supports are very mediocre and others not that great like the Sylvain and Ferdinand. She holds a grudge against Ferdinand over a misunderstanding she never tried to to confront him about and in Sylvain’s, she tries to take the moral high ground about not caring about looks or status yet the only commoners she can end up with are Byleth who becomes Archbishop and Hanneman (who is old but still) a former noble. Sylvain has a much better support with Mercedes and Ferdinand with Bernadetta.

Ferdinand really grew on me. I disliked him when I first started playing the game because I liked Edelgard at first, but once Edelgard showed her true colors I saw Ferdinand more favorably by default. Seeing his Support chains with other characters, particularly how he treats Marianne in their Support chain, caused me to completely re-evaluate his character and now he’s one of my favorites. And I like his Support chain with Lorenz because their smug, pompous behavior is hilarious.
