Hi Ash. Thanks for the video. I in no way expected my own video when sending all these clips in but it is nice for people to see me driving in a more respectful manner rather than driving like an idiot 🤣. Well done to Will, in the 1980’s I was a horrendous driver, too fast, hot headed and aggressive, impatient, accelerate fast on the throttle then heavy on the brake, tailgate when being held up, and generally selfish. In the 1990’s I calmed down a bit, in the 2000s I started to appreciate what good driving actually is and started to develop conscious awareness of my own standards. In the 2010s I actively sort out self education on what good driving actually is and have been trying my best at it ever since to steadily improve. ….. Your videos are a good barometer to reflect on your own level of personal habits and abilities.

A lot of good driving habits is born of empathy and understanding for the other people on the road. A lot of bad driving is from a self obsessed mind set seeing everyone else as obstacles that are in your way. This is how I want the driver to be when I’m a passenger. It’s relaxing, no stress, uneventful. To encounter the same situations whilst a passenger of an aggressive driver is the exact opposite. 4:30. It's not the worst, Ashley. I remember seeing a learner at traffic lights select reverse! Credit to Will, though unlike the following driver in the incident I witnessed, Will had left enough room for such a mishap to be corrected and a collision averted. But I am also going to give you an example that you will not expect. Near me there is a twitten (alley to you not from Sussex) which is one person wide. People normally squeeze past one another. Yesterday I arrived to find a lady walking towards me on crutches. The driving mindset said "wait for her to get through". Don't stop helping the flow just because you are not holding a steering wheel or handlebars.

When I was learning many years ago, in a Hillman Minx (actually a Commer van with added windows and seats in the back) going from third to second I managed to throw it in reverse whilst going uphill. It stopped. It was column change with a pull out button to get to reverse. Maybe I was a bit ham fisted.

One thing i've learned is never expect a thanks when helping someone on the road, sometimes people are grateful but are trying to concentrate on driving. When you get a thanks it is nice but i think you making it a non-situation is thanks enough. Otherwise you can end up triggering yourself.
@dbracer6 ай бұрын
@@rufusgreenleaf2466 As with life in general, if you only do nice things for the nice reactions you get, you're doing it wrong. You shouldn't go out seeking praise, but when you receive praise, it's a good thing. If you think about it that way, then you shouldn't get angry if people don't acknowledge your "good deed". I'm always happy to praise helpful and good driving, but when it comes as a result of improvement through the instruction and community input here, bravo, Will. In my own experience, the more you try to help out, the less inclined to irritation I'll be. I think the majority of drivers are happy to be part of making things flow better through thoughtfulness, often due to someone else showing the initiative, but it works the other way - the petulant lane police were out in force yesterday on the A31/A35 in Dorset, and it only encourages the same negativity in others. We need to be spreading good habits. We need more Wills.

My wife has noticed that I'm a better driver thanks to this channel. Recognising your own bad habits while watching the many terrible examples on KZbin is a real eye opener. I wonder if a mandatory driving awareness course is the answer. The driving standards in London are pretty shocking, many drivers just don't seem to care. Maybe once every 5 years you have to attend a one day course, a reset for bad driving habits. Like a speed awareness course of sorts. Or maybe some time after you pass your test you attend a "check up course" to curb any bad habits or lack of knowledge. Personally I think driving skill and awareness should be taught at school so when you start learning to drive you have an understanding of your vehicle, what it's capable of and an understanding of the rules of the road.

I always considered myself a good driver (does anyone think they're a bad driver?), I had a lot of extra training ~20+ years ago that gave me awareness, skills and abilities way above the standard driving test, but doing a lot of 'normal' driving over the years has perished some of those skills, and watching your videos has helped me realise where a few improvements could be made, so I'm definitely one that your videos have changed a little bit 👍 Will's driving transformation is incredible, from actively causing problems or making them worse to try and point out failings in other drivers, he seems to now accept that other drivers will make mistakes and is actively predicting them to make them less of an event, not more, his driving now looks like an A+ example. Imagine a world where everyone drove like the old Will, now compare that to everyone driving like the new Will 😊 good man 👍
