@@Cptraktorn While I agree that perhaps rise did not hit all of my buttons the right way, we should embrace them trying new things. Not sure if you are an OG hunting sim guy or you feel the sawm way about rise, or maybe even a world hater, but I think all of the steps they are taking are making for new multiplayer experiences that no other game series is coming close to. I think I see a beautiful mix all of all of the games (I have played since 3U on DS) and though I do miss some of the ways the older games feel, I think they are going to make the next game their "elden ring" of monster hunter, and I am here for it.

Pretty sure its not going to be fully open world, it still has other locales and the wording suggests they will be contained, but I get the sentiment, Wilds looks insane

@@AdulAhmad68 According to the website, simply following along the River in windward plains will have you enter the Crimson Forest. Not like them being removed would change it being open world. That's exactly what The Witcher does and no one would even suggest that's not an open world.

Also, from Polygon, "Since Monster Hunter Wilds will have a fully open world, fans can expect more freewheeling exploration through much bigger maps and biomes." Says "bigger maps", so its conflicting information, they're not being very clear about it so far...

The world is more integrated together and it is wider. However, you can still clearly have barriers within a single map that you cannot transpose making it clearly not open world.

@@kingofflames738 nah, for a game to be open world, it means you have access to the entirety of the world at all times, and can go and explore anything at anytime, and challenge anything whenever, and however you want. This is 100% not the case with Monster Hunter Wilds.

I think it's still gonna be awhile. They only really release the demos about a month or so before the full game comes out. I did wonder if we might get a demo in December (if Wilds follows World's January release). But since they're still only saying 2025, even after the new trailer. We probably won't see a demo till around Spring in my opinion.

It looks like there's still some polishing up to do. I've so far only seen the official stream, but during that I saw a Doshaguma with a Ceratonoth in its mouth and the way the Ceratonoth spawned in it was clipping through the floor and it looked like a Garry's Mod ragdoll glitching out. There was also one point where they SOS flared for help and the monster ran away to its nest, so the player and the help mounted up to go chase it, but when they got to the nest the helpers got confused and their AI basically just got disabled, even as the monster knocked one of them off their mounts with an attack. It wasn't until the Doshaguma moved to another area that they sort of woke up again. It's a shame because they were working perfectly in the demonstration they had done earlier. So, I really think the game's not quite ready for release, it needs stuff like this ironed before they do. If people will freak out over decorative rocks on the floor popping in to view as you turn the camera in other games they would get really pissed at things like that.

So apparently, not everyone is keen on the "neutral armor" that's mentioned. Like it's not that hard to comprehend, it just means your male or female character can finally wear either or. There's still clearly a distinct between male and female armors through the weapon showcases. BUT that's really a handful, with some returning. A good example would be with the Ingot set. You can finally use the knight looking helmet on your female character rather than having crown on the female ingot set. Or in terms of other armors that gives female skirt/dresses, you can finally wear pants. I personally think this is a great change, depending on persons. On that note, I can finally "knight-ify" with a female character.

I think it's good but I'd be willing to bet that in the next mainline game you'll have one armor set for both male and female (like most games) as it really doesnt make much sense to spend all that extra money making 2 versions of the same set.

​@Cptraktorn MH has been making 4 sets of armor per monster since nearly forever basically. Male armor Would have an Alpha and Beta set (Swordmaster and Gunner) Female armor would be same. However it's true that previous actions don't guaranteed future ones.

At the 10:00 minute mark when the dune tries to swallow the hunter, the sandstorm is raging, the monsters are having a turf war, the dev genuinely seems to enjoy that moment.

So what did it do before in past games? Just invisibly reward you with components? Bit boring. Even GB relink allowed you to go open chests even if it gave you the rewards if you didn't open them.

@@Stinkyremy In previous games when monsters were killed their collision was disabled, so you basically walked inside of their corpse and carved them from there. It looked pretty unnatural but we just sort of accepted it as one of those weird Monster Hunter quirks. With especially large monsters it was possible for the camera to clip inside of them when killed and you would see the model from inside out and it just looked bad. To my knowledge carving itself was introduced in the very first game because having items dropping on the ground like in Diablo took more resources (it was a PS2 game), so carving was a nice thematic way to handle looting monsters. Carving stuck around because it makes more sense than having a bunch of monster parts fly out like they're a loot pinata.

@@Zulban48 My only hands on experience with MH is the MH crossover missions in MGS PW. In that game say there was rathalos, you broke off parts of his body, say a wing or a horn and that would reward you with that part (iirc, but was also RNG) Does it work the same in actual MH, each enemies have parts to focus on that reward you with specific loot? Also what happens if you DON'T carve. Are you still rewarded with loot? I know you have 60 secs so more than enough time, just something I am curious about. I tried it in GB relink and even if you don't open the end chests you still get the loot in the reward screen. Another question. Do you get rewards from doing the quests on top of the actual pieces of the monster? Asking questions because I am a complete noob at MH but this game is looking great to me.

@@Stinkyremy I'm aware of those crossover missions but only because of a Let's play series made by Chip and Ironicus. I only vaguely remember what you're describing since it's been years since watching those videos. So, in previous MH games (perhaps all of them even) once the quest is complete you have 60 seconds to carve the monster, but you could also capture it and you would get different rewards and the timer would be shorter. Once the 60 seconds are up you are given a bunch of 'quest rewards' based on a reward pool specific to that quest, but most of the time it's loot related to the monster. So, the 3 carves you get on a monster is sort of 'bonus' loot. However, if you capture a monster you instead get the 'capture loot' on the quest rewards screen in its own section reserved for part break and capture rewards. In fact, sometimes different rewards had a higher chance of being obtained as a reward for capturing and some were more likely to be rewarded as a carve, but in Monster Hunter World they normalized the loot so that the only difference between killing or capturing was the timer at the end of the mission (or some specific quests required you to capture or you would fail). As for part breaks, when you break a part in old games you would get rewards related to the part break at the end on the quest in its own reward section, the same section as you get rewards for capturing the monster. So breaking a Rathalos' wing would very likely give you a Rathalos wing webbing after the quest is over (but because of RNG and the way the reward pools work you could break 5 wings and still only get Rathalos scales or something from doing so. This is why people despise the 'desire sensor' so much, especially when your friends are getting rewarded with untradable wing webbings you're trying to farm for). The one exception is tail cuts. Tail cuts leave behind a tail on the floor that you must carve in order to get the reward related to it. I could be wrong but it appears in Wilds they have changed it so that breaking a part immediately gives you the reward? The rewards system is kind've weird too, since a lot of it is RNG and the reward pool for different part breaks or even quest rewards can sort of overlap. This is how you get situations where you get multiple Bulldrome heads from a single Bulldrome hunt, because maybe you broke his tusks and the reward for that rolled a head, but just the basic quest reward may have rewarded you with one too, and maybe you even carved one off of its body. EDIT: Sorry I sort of glossed over the second half of your post, and no worries about being a Noob, this stuff is kind've more complicated than it really needs to be (which is probably why they're making it simpler in Wilds). But yes, the rewards for doing the actual quest will certainly give you stuff, the three carves you get is mostly a bonus (unless they re-introduce the mechanic where carving gives different rewards compared to capturing). So basically if you do not get to carve the monster you miss out on some loot. Normally this isn't an issue but in certain fights such as Dalamadur where you can carve its head 4 times and then have to run to its midsection to carve that 4 times it was tough to get all 8 carves in those 60 seconds, but that was a very specific case for an elder dragon that has way more carves than a normal monster and cannot be captured anyways. Notably in Wilds the quest complete screen does not bring you back into a new instance of the map so it's much more seamless. I suspect that as long as the monster's body has not disappeared you should still be able to carve it even if the 'quest complete' timer has run out, but I cannot say for certain until I get my hands on the game.

Have you seen the clip of when a monster is about to do a really big attack? I wasn't paying attention to it during the showcase but there's footage of someone fighting a Rey Dau and when it does its big charge-up railgun attack the health bar freaks out and the amplitude of the sine wave effect explodes from the health bar to such a degree that it nearly reaches the middle of the screen. The hunter also flashes with a red scoutfly effect pointing at the monster when this happens, so I'm not sure why they also decided to have the health bar freak out the way it does.

​@@Zulban48 The health bar like this is supposed to represent the hunter's feeling, his heartbeat, represents fear, when he is almost dying his heartbeat and fear increases, when he sees a big monster making a massive attack, the same feeling happens, fear of "oh shit, this is going to hurt/my god I'm going to die", I think that was the intention, at the same time that it makes the player feel and see the importance of these moments and attacks. Personally, I think it works well and I think it's cool, at the same time the design is elegant in a way, but I understand those who don't like it or don't understand it

The care the devs have is clearly evident in the level of detail of the open world as well as the cooking. This showcase has put Ubisoft to shame. Any excuse/argument made for their lack of attention to detail, this gameplay showcase destroys

Capcom has been releasing top tier game after game with only 1 or 2 poor quality or failure games since they created REngine and released RE7. (exoprimal and REmake 3 come to mind) They completely did a 180, because before RE7, while not being THE worse devs in the industry, they were in the low ranks with only EA and maybe ubisoft being worse. Now capcom are probably the or some of the best devs in the industry. They were absolute scum for on disc day one DLC!

Idk what you guys are talkinh about with the health and stamina bars. Ive been focusing on the hunt the whole time and only even notice it when the hunter gets hit or someones mentions it in the comments. Its fine. I dont know if you guys want this game to be just like world or just complaining to complain. This has to be its own game and it is. Ui and all

It's when I want to look at the health bar and have to parse the actual health meter vs. the noise of the wiggly bar that is annoying. It's a distraction that does not need to be there when I'm only trying to look at a gauge for less than a second.

Focus mode is striking me as a mix of Tenderizing from MHW and Afflicted Monsters from Rise. The wounded parts can be focused for extra damage, but at one point they’re shown to be “destroyed”, meaning the damage buff is gone, probably. Interesting how both games come together for different things. Edit: and there’s AI companions, too. Man, people really underestimate how important Sunbreak was

I hope there is still monster tracking etc. I don't want to be able to see the monsters on my map right off the rip. World has a great system of finding more and more tracks to finally be able to tell when, when and what is in the locale.

There are tracking. The first time you will have to do it manually then afterwards the bird will do it for you

@@TuriGamer immersion, and there's a moment in your hunt during which you have another objective than just "kill monster". It also makes you think about where the monster could be. Overall it helps to make the game not feel like just a mindless grindfest

Do we have any further details on the Perfect Guard mechanic, particularly as it applies to the Great Sword? From what I can tell, a well-timed GS guard means no chip damage AND no sharpness reduction..!

Its by the quest objective so it keeps it nicely compact into a single location. I miss my big clock, but I don't think it'll be too much of an issue.

Don't really like the animated life bar, looks like it belongs to a sci-fi game or something, hopefully there is an option to switch to classic looking UI or turn off the animations.

I thought the same thing at first, but I think it actually might be nice for new players because it gets more animated the lower your health gets so it draws your attention to it. I think it could be toned down a bit especially at full health, but I think it might be a more beneficial change that it looks like at first glance

That's not at all what they're confirming there, theyre talking about armor no longer being gender-locked. That being said, considering how immensely popular layered armor has been in the past two games, I'd definitely be willing to put money on them bringing it back.

“No matter how you build your hunter, how you look” like sound to me like no matter how you build your persons armor you can customize with any armor as long as you have the parts. Really we probably need a more straight forward answer than this cause this can probably be interpreted differently

it's probably going to be saved as a title update for post game. i didn't see anything that suggested the armor being selected was only for appearance. the talking Is targeted to new players, that already know the vets are getting it. usually this kind of talk ends up with lots of hot air completing features rather than actual information. the usual course in game commentary for any game to avoid silence so you have to read between the lines

It looks like there’s moves called offset moves for varying weapons (maybe all? I know SA has one too) that are able to do this. I’m not sure what conditions are needed to pull it off yet or if you can just do it whenever. That one is called offset rising slash.

@@TuriGamer I know what you mean, but at the same time I like the new direction. Sometimes you gotta break some eggs they say. I think the idea is more functional for multiplayer hunts. Before it was hard to see if our team mates were doing ok or about to get one shotted, but now we can see it based on their health bar animation. If you see your team's health bar change to red alot you know a big attack is about to happen- this would be the time to get your group heal ready or interrupt the monster. Normally in multiplayer we just focus on our own character and the monster a lil too much. I also think that in Wilds, monster will tend to focus target on a player kind of like the agro mechanics in MMO and the health bar on that player will go a lil crazy. This time if someone carts they can say- " Hey! you saw my health flashing red and you dint save me! I hate you! were not friends no more!" yea this will get more interesting now and i like it!

Like hunting horn buff , or max charging longsword giving atk+ buff , will that buff stay when we swap giving a boost to the other weapon ? do we lose charge / insect glaive kinsect progress when we swap ? etc

agreed. i personally wouldnt have minded if the wavy effects were inside regular solid bars similar to the sharpness icon but the way it is now feels like an unnecessary change. maybe there will be a "simple mode" for the UI. the past games have tons of options so there might be hope

I'll hold my final judgement until the game is actually out and we can see all the armor, but I'm also not holding out hope that the removal of genderlocked armor is the "ultimate mix and match fashion dream" that everyone is hyping it up as. I remember when they stopped locking armor between Blademaster and Gunner in World, all that really did was turn 90% of armor into Blademaster armor aesthetics, with occasionally an armor set actually looking like Gunner armor used to. We'll get notably feminine armor like Lala Barina, sure, just like with the occasional Gunner armor aesthetic in World, but we'll see what the ratio is on release.

@@cynicalgold9992 They said that about Blademaster and Gunner armor too, they were just being renamed to Alpha/Beta armor and you could mix and match now. Great! Except Beta armor was almost always just the Alpha armor with an extra doohickey added/removed instead of being distinctly Gunner armor like it used to be when it was locked. Let me put it this way: You used to have Male/Female and Blademaster/Gunner. So you'd have Male BM (1), Female BM (2), Male GN (3), and Female GN (4). Then they changed Blademaster/Gunner to Alpha/Beta and removed the lock. But the result was Male Alpha (1A), Female Alpha (2A), Male Beta (1B), Female Beta (2B). We lost designs 3 and 4 for a slight variation of designs 1 and 2. Rise then removed Alpha and Beta variations, resulting in just Design 1 and 2. Now they're saying you can pick from Male or Female armor regardless of gender. Based on how things went in World and Rise, what do you think this will result in for the majority of armor: Designs 1 2 3 and 4, Designs 1A/B and 2A/B, Designs 1 and 2, or Design 1A/B? This is why some people are skeptical - we remember the past two games reducing armor variety, one of which said the exact same thing they're saying now about mixing and matching as you please.

Those could just be different and unique looking because they're the new sets from the new monsters, you know because they're only showing us the cool stuff for promotional purposes and to hype up the game. We still cant be sure that this will be the case for all the armor sets in the game. I do hope that you're right, but ill hold my judgement until the game is released and we see everything.

Sure is looking good. Was hopeing for some new weapon types but not too disappointed about that. Also love sand dune environments so hopeing for a few interesting sand swimmer designs, like a desert beotodus. Also hope they add some cool insect/invertebrate monsters. This looks like the best game ever made, it's so awesome that I can't even express how excited I am. I'm watching the gamescom footage with a dumb smile on my face the entire time. One moment that is indicative of how dynamic the game is and how much love the devs are pouring into the game is at 9:50 when the one dev asks the dev playing what we're seeing, and he starts getting sucked into a sandpit during a turf war and he just starts panicking and going off topic. Like even one of the people who works on the game, takes part in designing systems, and interacts with it every day is having heaps of fun because of the chaos they've managed to create with this game. That level of enthusiasm is infectious and because of that I can't wait for the game to come out anymore. I NEED IT NOW

Im not a huge fan of how fast it seems you can get on seikret. Im hopefull that there will be some form of deterrent to keep you from using it for easy rescues. Im however very happy that they have confirmed that you can just have regular meows for the palico, I can see myself getting extremely annoyed with a voiced cat making constant cat puns. The removal of male and female armor also makes me very happy. No longer have to make 2 games to see all the sets.

I've definitely used the palamute to get away from a sticky situation but I just feel it kinda cheapens the experience for me. No shade if someone wants to use it but I would like to have a balance. Jouno did say in rurikhans stream that there will be a downside to using seikret to get out of trouble but didn't specify what that would be.

Thus, people who engage in the mechanic are weak and cowardly. The humor being that there were even more cheap ways to disengage in older games by simply changing zones, meaning a monster couldn't even chase you. So anyone engaging in this sort of deranged argument would necessarily be unserious. Of course, one could argue that World offered neither zoning nor dogs. But World didn't have hot and cold drinks. So all 5th fleeters are scrubs.

as long as there are distinct male/female armors then yeah, it's a very good feature. HOWEVER, this opens the door to unifying the armor set designs in future games where we only get one gender-neutral version that everyone can wear and this would suck. It would suck from an artistic design point of view, and dont even get me started on the whole gender neutrality discussion which is a can of worms id rather not open right now.

they havent really explained it well so it could be either way. Some people are saying it will be the same old armor sets both male and female styles, but they're not locked to a specific gender (or bOdY tYpE for the woke folk out there). Meanwhile other people are afraid that this will open the door to removing gender specific armor styles (like skirts, crowns, bras etc for females) for SOME armor sets in this game, or COMPLETELY in future games.

They have confirmed that you will be able to equip both sets regardless of the gender of your character, so there are still "male" and "female" sets for each monster, they're just not locked to only be equippable by that gender anymore.

I look forward to not using CPU companion hunters, turning off palico voices, not using any environmental hazards, only using the mount to chase running monsters, and playing it straight like classic monhun. Seriously would rather they just show off the new monsters' movesets instead of all this pretty fluff that distracts from core combat.

weapons all have the same attack, armor has all the same defense. idk how i feel about that

That's how it's always been it's just Monster Hunter Freedom, 3, 4 and World showed bloat values and not base damage.

it's "true attack values", basically that value is what's actually used for calculations alongside things like motion values and other modifiers. The "bloated" values are a half-assed way that's intended to make comparing weapons across classes simpler: why GS does more damage per hit compared to Glaive or Bow for example. However this actually makes it more complicated to compare across classes because in World a 480 Raw GS is the same as a 120 Bow and you just have to arbitrarily know that. Having true values takes that arbitrary bloat out of the equation so now if you have a Longsword at 100 raw and get a Switchaxe at 120 you know that if you play them equally as effectively then the Switchaxe has 20% more damage and there's no arbitrary math that you have to do. Plus we can see our damage numbers anyways making bloat values pretty pointless since you can just look at the screen and see a Greatsword do a big number and Duals do little numbers(ignoring element)
