This actually helped me get out of a low place today; to me, the lyrics are saying that even if you follow your urges to hurt/destroy/numb yourself, it really won't make you feel any better. So you might as well keep doing your best to resist your fears and addictions and just keep going. Life sucks but hurting yourself is only gonna make it suck more. And they're right.

If I understand and if I give my personal interpretation : the song is about someone who wants to arm himself so there is nothing left of his body the body representing his old personality. He wants to become someone else in the objective to feel better (maybe stopping to be suicidal or depressed) he changed his name. The first time he breaks his legs so he won’t go in stormy weather anymore. I think he took away his physical freedom so he cannot get himself in trouble or go kill himself but he "did it wrong" so there’s a lot left over of his personality and "now that he’s all gone he still doesn’t feel lighter" Then he shot himself in the head so his brain stops acting strange. He takes away in mental freedom so he doesn’t get suicidal ideas or bad thoughts anymore but it still doesn’t work and his depression is still here. And finally he put a bomb in a theater, I am not very sure of my interpretation for this part but maybe that he did finally decided to kill himself and maybe to take with him people that didn’t helped him (at some point in the song he states that he needs help) with him or that before his death he did/said things that has a big impact on a lots of people. He probably tried to commit suicide but did not succeed (did it wrong) and now he is still there.
