I just found your account today and I'm in love!!! I've been having a hard time marketing myself because I draw and paint and am not so much a digital artist. I really think your feedback as a traditional illustrator is wonderful and can help others like me who prefer to draw and paint!

I personally love the speed paint videos but I know they can be overwhelming and maybe even boring after a while. It's all I've been doing lately in my channel and I think people are bored with it. But for me it's so safe. I don't like to talk to the camera like you do. You look so confident when you do that.

Really enjoy the quality of your work; the balance that you achieve with the amount detail while making things appear almost gestural is enjoyable to watch unfold during the clips. Thank you for the effort that goes into this channel - it's inspiring! Well done ;)

Please make a Skillshare class!!! - or do more classes about how to ... I know everyone is different. And not necessarily to learn how to paint EXACTLY like you - more to learn how to discover your techniques /style and maybe some lessons in how to know /instructional for painting and understanding colour I love watercolour but I’m always scared to use colours like blues /purples to create shadows and unsure what order the colours should go down in - love love love your vids xx

Such a valuable video. Not many illustrators talk openly about pricing, as a recent graduate this is something I am very worried about, and they are not many examples of how someone should price their work. I am also interested in food illustration, so this video is literally a gem for me haha. I really love your work, it has been an inspiration throughout my studies, I wish you the best and thank you for sharing. :)

I don't know what country you hail from, but if you're American, the graphic artist guild handbook is a great guideline as far as prices you can negotiate from

Thank you for the insights, Holly! It was lovely to watch you paint and see the paintings come together. Watercolours are also my favorite medium! :D Also, thanks for offering your advice in case we don't know what to charge for an illustration, that really is a tough question sometimes. I haven't properly started out as a freelance illustrator just yet, I'm still at Uni right now, but we are having this class this semester where we learn how to come up with a proper quote....and it's really hard to determine one's own worth and calculate the time that you'll need etc. xD

If you’re only using Photoshop for what you described here you should look into Affinity Designer. It is a low one time fee for life so you could end up saving money to do the same things. It is worth looking into. Thanks again for another great video. I’m happy that you answered my question! Cheers!

Hey Holly, love the videos! Quick question - do you feel that promoting your work on youtube has really made an impact on how much work/clients you get? Is that the reason you started your channel? I'm too much of a wimp to film myself but I guess it's something to think about if it makes a big difference in getting your work out there. Which source of marketing and promotion do you think has been the most useful in getting more work in? Sorry for the Spanish Inquisition! B
@hollyexley5 жыл бұрын
Bethanie hi! KZbin doesn’t help with finding client work. I do it to help other illustrators, to try to save the industry by educating new illustrators, and to share my work and perspective with lovely people! That’s it really. My best form of marketing has been my website, most clients find me through a google search
