They weren't in love though. Keith and Lance had so much more chemistry and development. Allura just decided to date him after rejecting him so many times but there was no build-up, there was no constant sexual tension. There were no bonding moments between them it was just Lance flirting sometimes (which honestly just looked like him joking around) and her always denying him and going for Lotor. Keith and Lance were more like a real relationship than he and Allura ever would be. Allura and Lance never looked at each other the way Keith and Lance did and they never talked like they did either. Lance didn't go to Allura when he needed comfort he went to Keith and Keith went to him.

Y'ALL. Remember when pidge was being cute about technology and lance said "it's not a sunset pidge.", implies he thinks sunsets are beautiful. Then she said "a billion sunsets just happen everyday." And in the sunset scene, lance says "you watching the sunset?" "It might be the last time we see it." So, they are sitting in front of a sunset talking and keith is comforting lance, and they are having a bonding moment, which is rare, so keith saying it might be the last time we see it, implies this is one of their last bonding moments. And pudge saying earlier that a million sunsets just happen everyday, means the writers might've WANTED klance, but changed it, so they could attract a larger audience. (Lance is also still wearing to outfit coran have him for his date)

Ok ok ok here’s my theory: At 0:39 Keith says he wants to leave but also says, “Yeah, suppose that’s part of it...” PART of it, hinting there is more than what has been said. Then at 0:53 Keith also says “I finally understand why you left...” Keith’s mom responding with (idk her name) “I left to protect the one I most love...” So we could guess Keith was also leaving for the one he loves most (lance) finally completing the mystery or what was the other part. Keith does go not to leave but is reunited with the palodens however he needs to go again (not for long tho) so at 01:08 lance says, “WAIT where are you going?” In a sad tone now making it obvious he still isn’t coping with the fact Keith left the first time.
