Why do you have to pair it with mint mobile? I have my US phone number imported into google voice
@izcab2 жыл бұрын
Impressive review. As a US based flight attendant I can tell you the struggles with service is real. I had T-Mobile and it was too slow or it would grind to a halt. Then, I had Google Fi and it was too expensive including domestically. Then, I combined Mint with Airalo and that hit the sweet spot. But now I will check out Dent since I’m in Europe about once a week. It will be a treat not to activate every month. With Mint the international data is expensive so I turn off the roaming and activate Airalo. Mint is the perfect marriage with one of these services as I get all the global advantages for less than 25 bucks a month.

One thing to keep in mind or be aware of is that for the most part none of these eSIM providers include voice or SMS, they are purely data. Which is a problem if you need to make or receive a phone call when abroad. Also, the data on these eSIMs might be routed in strange ways which can cause other problems. On a recent trip to Canada I used Airalo and data was routed through Poland which caused significant problems trying to access or login to certain websites which blocked traffic from Europe most likely because of GDPR (in that some US sites may choose to just outright block traffic instead of working to comply with GDPR regulations) or they may block traffic from suspicious organizations.

Thanks for making this video! DENT actually piqued my interest for a different reason than travel: supplementing domestic coverage. I don't need a TON of backup data, but would benefit from something that gives at least 1 GB of data for a year, specifically on the AT&T network (I have T-Mobile postpaid). All the options from traditional, domestic MVNOs cost a minimum of $100 a year which is SIGNIFICANTLY more money than the $9.99 that DENT charges. Granted, the latency on the domestic options are much better, but I'd say DENT's performance is more than adequate for the occasional T-Mobile no-signal-zone where having any connectivity at all is more important.
@MichaelVance2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ray! I’ve personally just been leaving my DENT sim on all the time as a backup to my US Mobile plan. It’s great for the times when I don’t get Verizon service somewhere and hardly costs anything. Thanks for the comment!

@@MichaelVance Nice, we think alike! But you get the best of all worlds: you get coverage on all 3 major U.S. carriers: Verizon, AT&T AND T-Mobile (since DENT can switch between AT&T and T-Mobile). It's worth knowing that in the EU if you get a SIM in one country (by EU law) you can use it in every other EU country. I can't see any of these eSIMs offering this. So if your landing in an EU country and traveling to a few more might be worth getting a physical pay as you go/pre paid SIM card. You can get 10gb, for 30days, for €10 in places like France by buying a local SIM

You’re welcome! You can purchase them anytime. I usually purchase an Airalo eSIM about a week before I go, and you activate it when connected to wifi at the destination airport. The clock doesn’t start until the eSIM is activated.

Hi Michael, I'm so glad I've found your channel in searching for a provider to use while traveling. Secondly, nice to know that you lived in Georgia before! We are a retired couple from Portland OR, and now living in Batumi, Georgia. We are loving our life here and can easily travel to Europe. Thank you for your hard work to help others!

Hi Micheal, thanks for sharing this video. You did not mention anything with regards to voice calls or cellular calls. Also What is the different between the eSim and VOIP calls with dedicated numbers? Say for example, I want a US mobile number but resides in the UK? Essentially the ability to receive US based calls from the UK? would you still suggest esims, as from what I understand, esims are useful when you are physically in the country you intend to use to bought package in?
