Edit: Apparently I did not account for people reading the comments before watching the video, so I'm going to push my apparently very spoilery comment down so that you have to click "Read More" to see it rather than delete it. Apologies to those who have apparently been spoiled by someone commenting on a video after they watched it and commenting on the content of said video. For as much as the Kroot seemed to be getting mulched, the fact that Nick still could have won on points at the end says a lot about the game. Being able to keep bringing back wiped units to essentially redeploy where needed was really what made this detachment tick it seems.

As with a few armies in 10th edition though they shouldn't be competitive simply by spamming one particular trick or stratagem. That is always poor game design. Shame as they are awesome otherwise.

I feel like if they didn't have reinforcement strats, they will be a joke playing them against them with any army since Kroot are both fragile like the Tau but can't compensate with good shooting.

@@stuartfields9177I think the detachment becomes a lot more interesting when you think of it being more like taking 1000-1200 points of Kroot and then you take the rest as Tau to fill the gaps and give you some real guns. Then you kinda get the best of both worlds.

I think that Farstalkers would be a good thing to add to the current list, as they have Lethal Hits and Precision against one unit from the enemy army. That unit combined with either a War Shaper or a Trail Shaper would probably be really good

A close combat option that because of GW doesn't interact with most of other detachment strategems and doesn't benefit from the army rule though. The Kroot Detachment is something if you want an army that can actually do stuff in more than one phase though. This match though did point out what the theory crafters thought, that Kroot really need a pair of Tau heavies to deal with big targets.

Kroot Army is cool, but I feel like they do need a Hammerhead and/or Skyray, or maybe a squad of Broadsides, sitting in the back to give them some of the heavy-weapon oomph that they lack.

While Kroot are obviously the focus here, I just want to add that I recently started playing CSM using a Horus Heresy model based army and my god are they fun! I really love the dark pacts rule and the flexibility of models/loadouts makes them so fun to create. Also Abaddon is just so nasty - but I love watching CSM get played.

Coming from a tau/kroot fan... That game was rough! They seem to be going for a squishy hoard army but without any tanky units or really powerful shooting/melee! Without maybe a greater gnarlock or a squad of lesser ones, I'm pretty sure the kroot will be relegated to a flashy and fun army with no competitive umpf. Stuck as the wall of bodies to add onto a "regular" tau fighting force. BUT, as a force you add onto an existing one, I think these guys have some AMAZING potential! Always fun to see the 2 most charismatic members of PlayOn having a good tussle. GO TYKO THE UNBREAKABLE! and Nicky the Risky! or maybe Nick the Bomb?

can i ask why nick is concerned about rolling too high on charge moves? isnt the roll the maximum charge distance, and you can charge any number lower than the roll?

Because of the rule, that if you can base contact the model during a charge, you must, it means that too high of a role with a big unit will surround the target and not let any other unit charge it

Nice vid as always! Can that Kroot Shaper bring the kroot back for 0cp? They are technically a separate unit once they have been killed. So my understanding was you can't as the shaper can only do it for 'their unit'.
