All LIRR Ronkonkoma Line grade crossings and trains tour, Hicksville to Ronkonkoma. 6/11/24-6/12/24

We explore the dynamic and superbly engineered Ronkonkoma Line of the LIRR at all of the grade crossings between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma, 27 in total. You will see the fleet of M7 and M9 mu’s plus a NY&A freight train. The Ronkonkoma electrification east of Hicksville is a high speed line and you will see many trains blast by these crossings at nearly the 80mph track speed. There’s nowhere on the LIRR where you can see this heavy concentration of speeding trains and grade crossings.  You will see all of the train stations on this section of track and all of the trains are identified. Enjoy this look at an exciting piece of LIRR trackage with increased service after the 2/27/23 opening of LIRR service to Grand Central.

@3985uprr Not unsophisticated. Endearing. I was born and raised in Da Bronx, was in Da Aahmy for 30 years and have lived out of state since the TA was running R33s. I've never lawst it. So when you say it's a gawjiss day on the Montawk branch, I enjoy my kawfee. Horn Salute with a k5lla, Tim.

Secatogue Avenue used to be a crossing in which the bells would stop ringing after the gates came down. I guess after the double-tracking was completed, it now sees the bells ring continuously until the gates go back up.

It’s nice to see a different perspective (of course, you have to exercise caution near a grade crossing). My favorite grade crossing is William Floyd Parkway near the Mastic Shirley station.

I was talking to the director of locomotive engineers for a project a while back. He said “if you ask any public relations person they’ll say September 18th. If you ask me I’ll say sometime in 2025.” Middleboro station and yard look like they’re almost done if not done already. We’re slowly nearing completion!
