Seeing it from the Astronomc Side, it's not dark matter. Dark Matter is in reality harmless. But THIS "dark matter" is more like Anti-Matter. Matter cannot be created or destroyed unless it gets in contact with Anti-Matter.

I used to be afraid of this game, and for good reasons. You can hear mario gurgling for air when he sinks in a swamp, his last attempt at breathing being his arm reaching for air, only to be pulled into the swamp. Mario screaming in fear as he is pulled to extreme lengths inside of a black hole. Mario literally disintigrates when he touches dark matter, I do not think that a green mushroom would be able to bring someone back from being quite literally erased unless there is some sort of magical aspect to it.
