Good comparing of the options. Some other aspects to consider is the price to swap tires when needed or getting proper winter tires as needed in Sweden where I live. The price for 18" is not too bad and the choosing between different brands are possible. When going up to 19" or 20" (not to mention 21" or 22" for Y,X and S) the price increases extremely much and there's practically impossible to get good tires for winter driving when the size increases. At least for a price a normal car owner can pay. Also the riding comfort is different between the sizes. Tesla is a firm sprung car, so if comfort and lower road noice is essential the smaller wheels are to prefer. By the way as a cat owner I really adore your cute kitty 😻

All of the wheel sizes have basically the same road contact patch. They are all 235 width tires with virtually the same outer tire diameter. The difference in traction is actually caused by the difference in tire compounds. If you put Michelin PS4S tires on the 18” wheels it won’t break traction.

I’ve ordered the 18” on my SR +. Four reasons, ride comfort on the smaller wheels, slightly better range , I like the option of removing the hub caps and they are the cheapest.

Hi Brandon. On my Model 3 RWD, I ordered the 19” wheels. My decision was completely based on looks. I like the way the larger diameter fills the wheel well and the rims look cool. I’m not concerned about range loss as I’ll be using the car for shorter daily commutes and can easily recharge at home with an installed NEMA 14-50 plug. Thanks for an informative video!!

The Uberturbine wheels have only had one design which is the only current option for the Performance model 3. Previous Model 3 years have had 20” wheels with different designs but those were called the “Sport” wheels 🛞.

Currently using a loaner Model 3 while mine is in the shop. This one has the 19 inch rims while I'm used to the 18 inch version. Quite a difference. For one thing my car doesn't even have the acceleration boost, and it still chirps. The loaner does have it, and it takes off like a rocket! I'd still probably get 18s on my next Model 3 though, as I will gladly sacrifice performance for cost savings. Those 19 and 20 inch tires are expensive!! and the lack of sidewall makes me very nervous. Great video, it well explains exactly what I've been experiencing.

Hey Brandon, what do you think about the fact that you cannot enter a Tesla manually? I have a legacy model s, when the battery in the key fob dies, and given that the app is slow/unresponsive (which it usually is), you are locked out of the car and need to get it towed or get a new battery for the fob.

Hi Sam, this is one of the downsides of the Model S and upsides of the Model 3/Y. I don’t think it’s enough to deter the Model S/X enthusiasts out there, but something to be aware of. I personally love having the backup keycard for my 3 in case the app isn’t working.

Hey Brandon, great video! Two quick questions. I love the look of the red calipers, but the performance model is quite expensive. Is it possible to get red calipers done on the 19 inch sport wheels? I assume someone makes a cover for that size caliper. Also, what do the tires typically cost to replace on the 19 inch sport wheels?

Thank you Jason! I’ve seen many red calipers custom done on 19” wheels, it’s very possible. Tires are often $200-300 each.

The 18s and 19s have the same amount of road contact as they both come on 235 tyres. I want 19s but got the free option as it's possible to find aftermarket 19s with tyres for around £1500 here, rather than paying £1500 for Teslas 19s and not having my 18s as a spare set!!

Very interesting concept about the 18in on a LR AWD needing more contact to the road in order not to 'chirp' as you described. We have not yet experienced that [yet!]. But I can see how that would play.

Brandon, The Indiana Service Centers are quoting for Model 3's, 25-30k miles tire life expectancy on the 18" Michelins, if rotated every 3k miles and having them rotated at least twice per year.

@@johny1220 negative. Tesla offered it temporarily as a test and it didn’t go so well, the performance can’t handle smaller tires, they skip and don’t grip the road.

The UberHeavy 20” Model 3 Performance wheels are actually the WORST for acceleration because of rotational inertia. Those wheels are so heavy that they actually slow down acceleration. The 18 inch wheels with summer tires will offer the best acceleration for the Model 3 Performance. Tesla actually sold some Model 3 Performance cars with 18” inch wheels years ago. Those “Stealth” cars were the fastest stock Model 3 Performance cars ever made.

Meanwhile, other people got to see your video on their channel, but easy work on others' expense is not cool! By the way, we have 18in for our AWD LR 2022 M3. My son thought it was the best because of the comfort level vs. the thinner wheels, and it is the most economic. For a M3, I don't think we should go much bigger than 18. Performance, Plead, etc. would be cool to have the 19in. In my humble and not expert opinion! Good luck on the plagiarism issue and thanks for all your tips! It’s a deep metallic gray, there may be a paint code for it online somewhere! Very similar to the midnight silver paint.

But all good: the original does have a black coat underneath the deep metallic gray, as you mentioned, but cannot find that paint code anywhere. Will need to go in person at a body shop and find out. :)

For me, looks... whatever I find look the best, that's what I'll have on. People charging at home (it's already so cheap)... if you've got solar and can charge your car with extra electricity, it's free so who cares what the range is. You could have bought a $10k Toyota Corolla and have $50k remaining for buying gas or investing and making you even more. if you can afford the Tesla, then cost of electricity should be something that you never care about.
