My bird isn’t a parrot and has a different beak. He can’t pick things up like parrots and foraging toys are pretty useless for him so I’ve been thinking of different foraging ideas for him. The only thing I could think of was getting plants he can eat and putting them in his cage. He loves plants so it seems perfect for him. He gets to eat the nectar when the plants flower instead of trying to get nectar from plastic flowers.
@lizziehn59283 жыл бұрын
What type of bird is he? You'll want to model his foraging toys after what he would experience in nature. If he digs around for his food, you could hide treats in a newspaper floor. There are also fun preening and shoestring toys if you aren't sure what he likes.

I wan't to get a budgie and I've planned out what I want to buy for it. My parents are divorced so I need two cages. But for one cage is 3 toys (wooden swing, crinkle vine foraging toy and a wood kebab) ok? The other things I have for my cage is a cuttle bone, 2 wooden dowel perches (I plan to get other natural ones), a platform perch, the food and water bowls (I can't get aluminium ones so they're plastic) and the toys. Is this good? btw the cage is 72 cm long, 44 cm wide and tall. I also want to put a foraging dish at the bottom of the cage. as well as a ladder. I want to make at least 5 toys to hang around the cage and room.
@juliusroman86163 жыл бұрын
The plastic dishes aren't recommended because they're hard to clean off bacteria. BirdTricks recommends soaking it in hot water for fifteen minutes and then scrubbing with a clean toothbrush used only for cleaning your bird's dishes. But hot water can't be used for plastic because it's dangerous. As for toys, it's more about variety than how much, but Elle seems to have like ten or something. Planet pleasures sells really cheap toys. The cage is pretty small. She linked some flight cages that are pretty cheap-about two hundred dollars. It's a lot for a kid but you could see if your parents are up to spending that much, after all, avian vet bills are about a hundred bucks per visit a year. If not, you've got other issues. You could also get a job-some Mc Donalds offers jobs for fourteen year olds. A and E has a flight cage for 178 and HQ has one for 199. As for the budgie itself, getting it from a pet store isn't recommended because they mass produce budgies so they're lower in quality so they might die easier. You could get one from a rescue, which means you'd get to know it's personality better, or from a reputable breeder. I also recommend watching BirdTricks' video on nutrition, diet, cage cleanup, and especially their Household dangers so your bird doesn't die from the fumes of a teflon pan or scented candles. You need to buy stainless steel pans, that is an absolute must. Teflon pans will make your bird's arteries explode. And yeah. That's about it.

@ElleAndTheBirds5 жыл бұрын
Crazy Birdss I’m so sorry for your loss 😢 what happened to emerald? African grey parrots are a lot of work and I wouldn’t recommend them for beginners unless your parents have experience with large parrots. They are very demanding.
