All My Children - 1991 - A Drunk Arlene Smashes into Brooke and Jack

I remember seeing the backstory behind this. Some of the AMC cast flew down to Orlando, FL in mid-late April of 1991, to shoot these scenes at Walt Disney World. Stunt drivers crashed the cars, then the actors got in. This was taped really close to the airdate shockingly, of early May 1991. I never understood why a upper class raised lawyer like Jack Montgomery was driving driving such a cheap car, in a place like Pine Valley. I understand Brian Bodine or Arlene, but not a hotshot lawyer with at least 15 years under his belt. I doesn't make sense, other than the show's budget not allowing for late model 80s/90-91 model year car to be damaged in crash scenes. Jack should've been a Taurus (like later eps), a 89-90ish Bimmer, or a Benz. This never made sense, as it's like showing Erica in a Yugo or a Hyundai. The character had much greater means, than to be driving a pregnant woman around in such an old unsafe car.

The remote scenes were taped on April 11 and aired on April 26 and April 29. That's a two week lead time. Back in 1991, AMC would typically tape 4 weeks ahead of air in studio. So that means the bulk of the two episodes had already been taped for 2 weeks. That's more than enough time to add the sequences into the air show(s). As for the usage of automobiles, you have to let that go. Suspend disbelief. Nobody's buying late model cars at MSRP just to wreck.

Thank you for posting this! I've been wanting to see this for years. I never liked Brooke w/Adam!!!!!!! I missed Brooke after they fired her. Oh and I miss Trevor too!!! I miss AMC!!!!

Soap Opera Law. It's a specialty of Pine Valley lawyers- anything from notarizing papers to defending (or prosecuting) criminals ;)

I also have no idea, why Jack is driving such an old decrepit vehicle as a successful lawyer from Southern aristocracy, let alone ferrying a pregnant woman in that deathtrap. It's just ABC cutting costs, after flying them to Florida to shoot this at Disneyworld. I would've expected to see him in a late model 1990ish Mercedes 300E or something, not this LOL.
