Real chemistry .
@abuhamza19703 жыл бұрын
What you have to understand is that MW used to have a great friend in Graham Hill and here was his wee lad Damon in the paddock watching his dad go racing. Having watched someone grow up and form a bond with them, and then have to console them after their father’s death creates an amazing emotional bond. Years later Damon would actually race bikes - Murray’s truest love, and then he watched him move into GP cars. Having had his father’s name to trade on but no money meant that it fell to others to support him (emotionally not financially) in his quest to emulate his father in becoming F1 world champion, which he eventually did. So when he says “I have to stop because I have a lump in my throat” it was genuine.

Do you know what... I think it's the very true meaning of "Wonderful" The reason is that you know that after a weekend away with F1.. He would probably get home to his wife with a "Hello love, it's wonderful to be home." light up the room and in the same way that when he arrived at the track and saw people like Martin.. You can see him saying "Hello Martin, wonderful to see you and be back at the track." He used that word a lot and Martin probably doesn't realise how much he uses the word that he picked up from Murray. Murray was such a wonderful all rounder who, to us fans, feel like we've lost a family member.

Thank you for this memory. I was sad to hear of Murray Walker's passing and sorry when he stopped commentating F1. Canadian fans missed him when he retired. In 1978, while at work, there was a TV nearby but I could not see it. However I did hear Murray's enthusiastic commentary of Gilles Villeneuve winning the GP in his Ferrari. A Canadian winning the Canadian GP! It hasn't happened since and I think Murray was as excited as I was.

@@gazmundo1987 I think that's who he meant when he wrote 'Bill Murray'. I would add David Coleman and Ron Pickering who both managed to cover a variety of sports with a great deal of authority. Coleman was lampooned relentlessly by 'Spitting Image' late in his career when he was making more mistakes than made us comfortable but he still managed to make even rather tedious races/matches/events seem more exciting than they actually were.
