Wanna know a neat fact? It's actually pronounced Arkèus because the origin of the name is archè ("beginning" in Greek) and Deus ("God" in Latin)

I'm Italian so for example your "e" is pronounced as I would pronounce "i" in Italian. I suggest to search how Deus is pronounced in Latin and just cut it out and put it in the end of the name so you're gonna be as correct as possible

That may be a weird way of wording it, but, while it is clear that pokemon take inspiration from different phonetic styles and sources, there are still of course, clear changes made, to make the pronunciations and the actual appearance simpler to replicate.

@@Sassaparilla well, it's Latin. We lost a lot of pronunciations in the years and the way you would hear "Deus" on any platform is how we pronounce it even today. It doesn't make sense to give it an English pronunciation because it's not an English language. Of course you are free to say however you like it but the correct pronunciation is that, both for Deus and Arkhè. I'm not completely sure because the first part could also be Archanum, Archetype, Arkhon but still, the pronunciation of the first part of the word is still the same. As Charmander keeps the pronunciations from "To char" and "Salamander" and Pokémon from "Poket" and "Monsters", by logic so does Arceus too

It's half of the time just some guy saying "but more people will get it if it's said this way". I mean, come on, there's still people saying Arceus as Arse-ee-us. I understand where it is based in, but it is also, of course, modified, just as language naturally has over time. It has simplified amongst other things. Without accents, it's really hard to pull an exact pronunciation. as far as I know though, in an official book, it *is* stated to be "AR-key-us". This is a book I actually have, but there are discrepancies every now and then (albeit, they're mostly things such as putting the wrong image elsewhere in the same page or writing a word twice). It is an old book (2009) though, so...

The thing I hate about a lot of the modern mythicals is the way almost none of them seem to fit into their native regions, so they're even more transparently tacked on then before. Zarude is a monkey that lives in the jungle of which Galar has precisely zero, even in the dlc. That would have made way more sense for Alola. Magearna looks like it belongs in Kalos not Alola and has literally nothing to do with Alola as far as I'm aware. Zeraora also has literally no lore connections to Alola that I'm aware of. Not all of the older mythicals have super strong connections to the regions they are native to, but most of the newer ones actively feel massively out of place imo.

@@Sassaparilla I never said Volcanion wasn't related to Kalos. I think gen 6 was the last gen where all the mythicals actually felt like they somewhat belonged it that region. Your point about Magearna is exactly what I said. The point I was making was that it has nothing to do with gen 7 and therefore feels tacked on and pointless being introduced in those games instead. I think every gen7/8 mythical (apart from Marshadow) feels tacked on and unrelated to the games they were introduced in. The fact that there's no actual event stories associated with their introduction in the games the originate from only compounds this. These pokemon aren't in those games as a natural part of the regions' pokedex, they're just wifi distributions to promote their movies. I know that's what mythicals have always been for, but they're not even trying to make it make sense in game anymore.

@@JaimieSch I mean, Marshadow didn't really fit either. Marshadow is based on shadowboxing, and is also a little thief. My favorite mythical by far, but it has nothing to do with its region, just like most other mythical pokemon if you genuinely give it a moment. Now, sure, some of these mythical pokemon have tie ins to their region. But, you also need to think about the era. Mew was only relevant to gen one, as it was the only gen. It was just an april fool's joke originally after all. Celebi has more tie in with the Manga than the movies or game, and basically was only added as "hey, Mew was cool, let's make another one". Jirachi and Deoxys have nothing to do with Hoenn, at least originally, as Deoxys did get a proper tie in thanks to the Delta Episode, which is also just a reference to the movie in all honesty. Manaphy could only be obtained by Pokemon Ranger, Phione is IRRELEVANT, Darkrai is *barely* tied into Cresselia, Arceus is really the only closely tied in the plot Mythical here, I mean, it's fucking god. Oh yeah, Shaymin also does nothing as a tie in as well. Genesect is a glorified fossil pokemon, Victini is closer to a Greek thing than American(which unova is based on to my knowledge), Meloetta basically isn't even mentioned, Keldeo has decent tie in and for good reason (as Keldeo is based on the fourth Musketeer, D'artagnan, which, The Three/Four Musketeers is French, and Keldeo is only tied in because it is tied into Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion, all of which are legendary pokemon, which almost always, if not always, have a healthy connection to their region's history). Kalos had Diancie, which is a glorified Carbink, at least that one has some Darwin logic to it. I will admit, Magearna and Volcanion do not belong in Alola. But, they ARE still connected to the History of Kalos properly, albeit, it's extremely background lore, related to ancient kingdom bullshit and AZ. Marshadow and Zeraora had nothing to do with Alola, Meltan/Melmetal and Zarude have nothing to do with Galar. Basically, only Two Mythical Pokemon properly tie into their region, one of which is god in the most clearly religious pokemon region, and the other is based on a French Story, in an American based region. Yeah, these make sense. Deoxys is hard to even count as Mythical anymore, considering you no longer *need* an event to get one, but for posterity's sake, I guess it can be thrown in too. The only tie in most of these pokemon have, are through a movie or through the manga, which have no actual canon relevance to the games, and thus, all of their "connection" is easily disregarded. While I will agree many of these pokemon don't fit the region, it's also easy to say that most of them just don't anyways. They're all thrown in as added promo shit, like a Cyborg popping up in some fucking European High Fantasy Legend.

Although, I think most of the ones prior to gen 7 have some connection to a specific area of characters in their first games. Mew is connected to the old mansion and mewtwo. Celebi is the guardian of Ilex forest. Deyoxis ties into mossdeep space centre. Jirachi is somewhat tenuous but there is at least that wishing rock in mossdeep. Arceus, like you mentioned, is integral to Sinnoh. Shamin is connected to floroma meadow. Darkrai is the counterpart to Cresselia. Your right about Manaphy and Phione there's nothing there at all. Victini is tied to liberty island. Genesect was created by team plasma, the villains of gen 5. Keldo you also mentioned is the 4th muskateer. Meloeta is also not related to anything I'm aware of. Diancie is related to carbink, but is also a fairy type which was introduced in Kalos. Hoopa is tied to parfrum palace and it's implied that it transported the palace there in the first place. Volcanion is kind of weak, but it's said to live up in the mountains which Kalos does have so better than Zarude. I thought Marshadow was partially based on some Hawaiian legend(hence the exception), but I could be wrong about that. Melmetal I give a pass as technically it's from pokemon go, but the other newer ones have no excuse. So I would say most of the older ones have better connections to their games then the gen 7/8 ones(which have basically none), even if a lot of them are still weak. But yeah, it's nothing new that mythicals are tacked on, they've just completely given up trying to tie them in at all.

There's an unconfirmed theory that Mar is tied into the Nightmarchers or the Menehune, as it shares some traits, but they're negligible to my knowledge. It's a ghost fighting type that hides in the shadows of others, copying their techniques and stealing their power. Shadow Boxing in a nutshell. From the listed origin of the japanese name, which is still Marshadow, it comes from "Martial Arts" and "Shadow", so yeah... And I still refute Mew and Celebi for a simple reason. Mew was a joke, that was the whole thing. When people liked it, they said fuck it and made it into an actual pokemon. Gen 2 was originally planned to be the last generation, which is why Celebi is so similar in a lot of factors. An enigmatic psychic type, who supposedly was in the game and was *vaguely* hinted at with some lore. Most of the other tie ins are so negligible that they could be taken out and nothing would have really changed. I'd list off every point for each Mythical it really fit, but I've already done that once but with far less focus on the exact issues, meaning it would take a lot more time. In short. Mythical pokemon are 90% of the time little weirdoes that don't really fit in. They just kinda get tossed in whenever pokemon wants to do a promo for something, whether it be a movie or a new game series.
