This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new full-size Range Rover PHEV, plug-in hybrid SUV. The Ranger Rover plug-in hybrid is here with a sleek new design and some great EV range, offering more than its competitors. This PHEV has a 3L turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with an electric motor and an 8-speed automatic transmission. It gets a combined 434 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. The Range Rover plug-in hybrid has a 38.2 kWh battery with 82 km/51 miles of EV range. With a full tank of gas and a full charge, you get about 806 km/500 miles.
With a starting price of $137,850 CAD/$110,500 USD, it does not qualify for the Federal EV rebate of $5,000 in Canada. In the US, it qualifies for a tax credit up to $7500.
The Range Rover PHEV is one of the few plug-in hybrids to offer 50 kW DC rapid charging capability and can charge up to 80% in under an hour. The battery can charge to 100% in 5 hours on a 7.2 kW level 2 charger.
This plug-in hybrid earns a combined city/highway rating of 4.6Le/100km, 51 MPGe. With the battery depleted it gets 11.3L/100km, 21 MPG combined.
The exterior of the Range Rover is clean and modern with a simple elegance, it is a little bit longer than the previous model with more cabin space including extra front and second row legroom and cargo capacity.
Our test model in Fuji White has flushed door handles, a unique front bumper, a five-bar grille design, it comes standard with nickel atlas exterior accents, available black exterior accents and 21” wheels, available 22”.
This plug-in hybird offers 8.2” of ground clearance, 11.2” for off-roading and a maximum wading depth of 35.4”.
Standard features include, a 13.7” digital driver display, 13.1” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, Meridian sound system, perforated Windsor leather, 20-way power heated front seats and heated rear seats, driver seat memory, heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof and a power tailgate.

in Korea, we say 50% of the Range Rover on the road is on the way to the service centre and the other 50% is coming out of service centre. Awesome reliability. PHEV is much more expensive and it's not efficient when you don't fully charge overnight. Places like in Europe, it's attractive option for rich people because of low vehicle tax and convenience of parking (you can just park in EV spot and charge even if you don't need to) in in-city parking

it would be wonderful to be able to buy one of these for US$110,000. The problem is the dealerships are adding a market adjustment price of $20,000 on top of the MSRP. I was in the dealership in southern Maine two weeks ago looking at the non-plug-in range rover and they had a market adjustment price of $18,000 over the MSRP on that model.

I love love love the interior of this vehicle. It's a simple, timeless, blood pressure lowering escape. In a crazy fast paced world, the interior of this car hides you from it all. One thing I'd like to see different is the "U" on either side of the car where the door meets the front fenders. I find them distracting and interrupts the clean line of the car (perhaps not a problem on a darker paint colour). Everytime Z & A review a range rover I want to test drive one!

I have a Rav4 Prime and I've looked to see if there is a plug in hybrid that beats it at any price. The answer depends on your priorities. I wanted a PHEV that would be the best "electric car" possible. Most PHEV's, and the Land Rover falls into this category, have a fairly weak electric motor. It has range because of the large battery, but my smaller and lighter Prime has more electric horsepower. Now if you want combined horsepower of electric and gas then Volvo, BMW and land Rover have a lot more. But I'm satisfied with my 310 hybrid horsepower, in part because it's enough, but also because it's efficient. The new Volvo XC60 and this Land Rover have good range, but they are not nearly as efficient. This car has an MPGe of 51, I think, that's the number I found. My prime is 94. My Prime has an average MPG of about 36 on regular gas. I can't find the MPG of the 2023 land rover PHEV, but the 2022 model had an MPG of 19 on premium gas. I'm guessing your average Land Rover driver is not too concerned with the MPG or MPGe of their car, but I do think it kind of gets lost in all the talk of electric range. MPGe of 51 sounds high, but it's actually pretty low. These are lovely cars, but I don't think I could bring myself to drive one even if I could afford one. I'd go for the Lexus 450 h+ because it's the only luxury PHEV that is actually efficient. If you are really going off road then there are better options, but how many people really take these vehicles on anything worse than a few miles on a well maintained dirt road? Finally, I enjoy watching these two charming Canadians review cars. : )
@richardh3587
@richardh3587 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I'd say you'd buy the PHEV version of this to increase the comfort and convenience of having one. As you know, driving in EV mode (especailly when you're in slow traffic) is more relaxing. Plus you have the convenience of being able to charge it at home so you reduce the number of times you need to go to a gas station. I dont think efficiency is a big selling point or consideration for buyers in this segment (other than maybe a token nod to looking like they are trying to be "green").
@ghenry85
@ghenry85 Жыл бұрын
I have a Rav4 Hybrid and I don't think I could justify the phev. My trip to work is a little more than 70kms and I can't plugin at work. The gas milage is fantastic and the performance is very easy to live with. If my commute to work was 20ish kms(one way and leaving a buffer for cold weather), the RAV4 Prime would be a very tempting option. It's price is competitive with full EVs of similar size but no range/charger anxiety. I do agree, efficiency would be in the calculation for a daily driver for me always.

I’ve tried both and the Escalade is more stable and not as bouncy as this Range Rover. These days the Escalade is unrivaled with the level of integration with the flowing, beautiful 38 inch 4K OLED Screen and Super Cruise. Is just too easy to choose the superior technology of the Escalade. This new Range Rover is in need of a redesign interior wise, add an autonomous system get rid of all the slapped on screens and add better looking seats.

Just imagine what EV range Toyota can achieve if they shove a 30+ kWh battery into one of their PHEVs. I reckon they could easily get around 100 miles of EV-only range since the Rav4 Prime already able to achieve well over 40 miles EV-only range even with a measly 18.1 kWh battery.

You’re comparing a low end beater car with a British car And no their not reliable.. they are costly to repair…. I’m just saying you’re comparing a toy to a tank

@ssing7113 I didn't even compare the Range Rover to the Toyota, read my comment again. If anything I was comparing Toyota against themselves in that I think they could've done even better. But I do agree that the Toyota is like a tank when comparing to the Range Rover.

I get around 45 miles on a 12kwh battery, I guess efficiency was not the mission of this car.

Give me a PHEV with 150 km of EV range...that would be the sweet spot for my commuting needs and ensures I will never need to use gas. Does one such PHEV exist?

No there isn't one that exists with 150 km of EV range.

With 38 kw battery has only range of 81km. My 2016 Chevy Volt Premier has 18kw range of 85 km.
@Trades46

Might have something to do with the fact the Volt is based on a Cruze and weighs in at ~1800kg, while the Range Rover is about as much a small house.

wow, 38-kWh battery pack only gives 80 km of electric range (0:45)?! Our RAV4 Prime has a battery pack about 20 kWh smaller and we routinely get 80 km of all-electric range in local driving (not highway driving) in warm weather... A 38-kWh battery should give 150-200 km of all-electric range.
