This will be very useful if I can follow it as it may be a bit too advanced for my knowledge of using captivate. Fingers crossed.

Great video, Paul. Have you come across a method of clicking an object (with triggered audio assigned to it) to start the audio, clicking again pauses the audio, clicking again starts the audio again from where it left off?
@CaptivateTeacher4 ай бұрын
Hey John, In Captivate 12 (unlike Captivate 11), Pausing and Resuming the timeline will do this for slide audio. Add a bookmark at the beginning of the slide and jump to bookmark to restart the slide.
@johnleggett50544 ай бұрын
Thanks for that Paul. Actually, it is not slide audio as such but audio assigned to a button via a 'Play Media' interaction. So I don't really need to restart the slide just pause/start/pause, etc audio on a button.

@@johnleggett5054 I had a need for something like this so I took the audio clip and loaded it into Camtasia, I added an image, like a thumbnail you might see for a podcast. Published it out and loaded it into Captivate using a video block. This easy there was the playback controls and playbar that give your learners full control.

That is an elegant idea, Paul. Thanks! I've also fedback to Adobe my request for pausing audio on an object that has triggered audio assigned to it (via 'Play Media').

Paul, would this button work if someone had to save their place in a video and exited the course? I'm trying to create a save video place feature that will allow users to exist the course and come back.
@CaptivateTeacher4 ай бұрын
Bookmarking in Adobe Captivate 12 only works if you have an LMS. It remembers only the slide where you left off. If a learner returns to the course, they will start the current slide from the beginning. By the way, I'm not a fan of play / pause buttons but I get asked,d so I show the steps.
@2snipe14 ай бұрын
@@CaptivateTeacher that is more or less what I'm working with. However, I don't want to just save the slide users are on but also the timestamp they last viewed in a video.

@@2snipe1 In Adobe Captivate Classic, there used to be a system variable that stored the current frame. The system variable was called cpInfoCurrentFrame. You could create an exit button that would first store the value of that frame in a user variable. Upon relaunching the course, you can recall the contents of that user variable and then jump to that frame (accurate to 1/10 of a second). Unfortunately, Adobe deprecated that system variable, so you can no longer store that information using interactions.
@2snipe14 ай бұрын
@@CaptivateTeacher gotcha, so even if I made a variable and used the execute JavaScript interactions, it'd be hard to replicate.
@CaptivateTeacher3 ай бұрын
On initial consideration, I don't see how I would create such an interaction. Best advice I can give is to break down your videos into clips that are only a minute or so long. That way if a student returns to the course they will be only a minute or two away from where they left off.

It's great having these button blocks, but can the pause button appear over the video? where the state is invisible until it's hovered over? I can't seem to find a way to do this
@CaptivateTeacher3 ай бұрын
No. You would need to build a custom solution for that.

Hi Paul, please please share something on a countdown timer for individual quiz slides based on time limit for the question.😢😢
@CaptivateTeacher4 ай бұрын
You can set a time limit for each of your question slides, but unfortunately you cannot display the amount of time on your slide. That would be nice. I suggest you go here and ask Adobe for that feature: www.adobe.com/go/cp_user_voice

Hi Paul, As you're the Captivate guru, I've decided you are the best person to come to for help. Issue #1: Something weird is happening with my audio files in which they sound normal in Apple Music and they sound normal in the timeline within Adobe Captivate (version 12.3.0.12), but in preview mode, the audio sounds far away and distorted (almost as if it is underwater). I have opened a blank project and just imported the audio onto the slide and the same issue is occurring, so there is no interaction or effect that I have implemented that is causing the distortion. We received the files as mp3 files but requested them as WAV files hoping that would resolve the issue, but sadly it has not. I've also imported files from past e-learning modules and they appear normal in the preview, so it may be something with the audio files themselves? I am unsure. I've also reached out to Adobe's support team on this and we are tackling the issue. Has anyone else encountered this? Adobe's support team even said they have tested the audio on various Adobe programs and it is only replicable on Captivate. However, the fact that audio files from other e-learning projects are working within preview makes me think the issue may be with the Audio files, but I am not sure. Issue #2: Is there a way to permanently place the dark grey play bar at a certain location on the screen (such as in the bottom middle for the user) within the settings? I know the user can move the play bar as they wish, but I am running into the issue of the play bar appearing where it wants and interfering with the previous and next buttons I implement to the slide. My guess is the software does not know whether you're trying to click on the play bar or the back button, so it does nothing instead. Would love to find a solution to these issues. Thank you so much!

I am not encountered issue #1 as all. Good luck with Adobe finding a solution for you. I hope they do. With Issue #2 I would suggest you request that as a feature enhancement as it isn't something I'm aware you can set. I would love to move my playbar to the upper tight corner for my designs but I appreciate your thoughts on this. Here is where you can report bugs or suggest feature enhancements: www.adobe.com/go/cp_user_voice
