That's one stunningly beautiful car . Anyone that doesn't agree is in denial. I am French but I used to be a BMW guy all my life. Now, I have just ordered my DS... First French car for me in the last 25 years..... My brother bought a DS 3 crossback and it's just so fun to drive, love the comfort, love its look... French car makers are on a roll, they are really doing quality for the last 5-7 years. It's just the anglo press that still refuse to admit it. But that's okay, we know the Brits are super petty and love to trash talk the French... They will be the last ones in Europe to admit DS is quality. Last time I got to Germany in 2019, I saw French cars everywhere on their streets. French cars can't stop winning market shares everywhere in Europe and there is a reason to that. They are quality, as much as their German counterparts, and they cost less. You know that DS 4 is going to sell like crazy in every country.

I have DS7, and the car is pure pleasure all around. BTW, I also have heated windshield, so do your facts. Why did you forget about the HUD? It's a new feature. Cooled storage under arm rest. The leather quality in DS can be only compared to Porsche or much more expansive Germans, no one want to pay premium price and get cheap and very nasty seats and interior. It always seems when you review French cars, you always neglect things and give them hard times, but same features on German seem not to bother you that much...

I don’t understand why leather seats are to be considered as “old school”. One should not forget that most people are not vegan. So if they can get a car without leather it’s fine for them but their views and lifestyle should not be imposed on people who simply love the touch of leather in a car, nor should non vegan people be stigmatised as “old school”. Having said this, thanks for the great review - I’m looking forward to test this car.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIHCdKmCocZ5oqs In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpzNdHSjppaSbqc Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. Not using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
@stateless4255

@@autogefuehl You are right in your argument, but when you present other cars with leather seats, you do not say a word about that. I think that in the case of DS4 you are not very objective.
@oliverpeters7485
@oliverpeters7485 3 жыл бұрын
@@autogefuehl I hear your arguments but still, activism usually does not lead to unbiased reviews. Furthermore, top quality leather can only be obtained if the animals are well treated. If you were really concerned about environmental issues then you should address as well issues like how the components of lithium batteries are obtained - the harm to humans and the environment is huge. So all I would like to point out is that veganism applied to every day’s life, in general, and to the car industry, in particular, will not “save the world”. And finally, I’m convinced that fashion in general causes much more harm than the all the leather that is used in cars.

I really don't get why people always complain about the lack of physical button for air conditioning. I mean, do you guys change the temperature 20 time per trip or what? Personnaly, I set it to 20 degrees and that's it...if it's 20 outside, it will blow air from outisde. if it's hotter outside, it will cool the air, and if it's cooler, it will heat the air...but I will always get 20 degrees in my car, that's the principle of automatic air co... In rreality, I probably change the temperature twice or thrice a year, because for some reasons (being wet for instance) I may want it hotter or cooler than 20, but definitely not something that requires a specific button on the dashboard in my opinion....

That switchgear at 4:36 looks hellishly flimsy. It’s good that someone is trying something different to the the mainstream but this all looks quite over-designed to me.

Hi Thomas, When you say that offering leather is "old view" I disagree. Young women are craving for luxury leather bags, they might say being vegan is cool, but Louis Vuitton still sells like crazy ... You are expressing a personal opinion about the matter. If you would be really concerned about environment, what about saying "old view" when discussing the latest V8 in an AMG ?

@@autogefuehl I dont disagree with all you say about leather, I am not defending the leather industry. But where is your similar opinion about climate change, pollution, waste ... and so on when trying the Cayenne GTS ? If you/we were really concerned about that, we would be promoting this lifestyle: use a bicycle/public transport to go to work, go on vacation by train, when necessary, rent a 10 years old Prius, not by promoting a Cayenne GTS, no ?

Again as with other DS's, the shape and general design of the interior is nice, but then they add so many textures and different materials that it looks kitschy and messy.

@@stickygeiden I feel the DS style is still too bling and relies too much on gadgets (even if it really came a long way since the previous generation) and the technology (chassis, suspension, drivetrain) is not really all that premium yet. Of course now that they will be part of the same business unit as Lancia and Alfa Romeo sharing platforms and engines, no doubt that will change.

This car looks awesome both in and out, if anything they should have covered the inner door frames which stand out as it does in a Dacia Sandero! I don't think it's ok to judge a car based on its upholstery options. The French love fine leather just like the Italians do, so I don't see this option vanishing in the years to come, eventhough manufucturers must issue a certificate stating that their materials come from a cruelty-free industry. I guess we all will become vegans when tigers and lions do ;)

If you use animals / animal part, there is no such thing as cruelty free. Just ask yourself if you want to be in their position and you'll have your answer what is wrong and what is right.

@@autogefuehl My grandpa had a Lancia Thema that came with full alcantara tan trim, it was really nice. Why aren't manufacturers offering this kind of alternative options anymore? This was decades ago but all we see now is either boring coal black fabric or leather in multiple colors.

@@autogefuehl People are still gonna eat meat. So ask yourself if its better to throw the skin or just use it for something like leather seats? Id rather see that in a car than some material that was produced by a 5-year old kid in India or China in order to satisfy European ignorance so they can feel better.
