Better than its German counterparts. Look at that car... a thing of absolute beauty. Been driving BMW for 27 years and my wife wasn't keen when I told her about DS.... but she went with me to try it... and in less than 5 minutes she told me : "that's one we need... it's so beautiful". Ordered the Performance Line, Pearl White, Black roof. I am telling you : that DS4 is fabulous and even superior to any product that class from BWM, Audi and Mercedes Benz. Greetings from Germany.

Absolutely not. BMW 2 series handles better than DS cars. Handling isn't even comparable. I've rented both cars. I drive 2003 XC90. I needed car for vacation BMW 218i was so much better. Any German car handles better. This isn't bad, just not that level. If you come from 1990 BMW and say DS4 better than 90' bmw, lol. rent BMW, test it. Feel it. Opel Grandland & Crossland has way better downforce too. You're justifying your choice with bs logic.

@@betrenthmouze6336 Nope, DS4 is in a class with those cars. Not every BMW car is meant to be for sport lol. You compare apples to apples. DS 4 came as "France's answer to BMW's 1 series". It has the basically same price tag. So you are saying, DS 4 shouldn't be compared meanwhile it's existence was just to compete Germans? What an absolutely dumb logic. If you think DS series do offer more comfort and BMW does give that away, you're in delusion. Reviews do tell how its poor handling or hars roads. It looks premium, but material isnot up to its pars. A series of Merc, BMW 1 series, Audi A3. vs this. same segment.

I ride this beauty about 10 months now. Since several major software updates, voice commands and the DS Smart Touch are working way better (especially the writing feature)! Also the infotainment system works more responsive, faster and less laggy. Chapeau DS Automobiles! Very happy with this car! I have the DS4 Performance Line+ PureTech 130 Automatic in Platinum Grey. Comfort & design are the trumph cards of DS! In the future I'll keep driving DS. My dad always drove Citroën cars and still doing that today. I prefer comfort over sport. I don't have the DS Active Scan Suspension, but it still offers an amazing comfortable ride. The seats are also amazingly comfortable as well.

You are so right to have a rant about the tech, Rory. Car control ergonomics are going back to the 1960s when you had to play hunt the thimble to find any controls (good job that there weren't many then - indicators, lights and heater if you were lucky!). The safety implications of being distracted while trying to perform simple tasks is something that the industry and regulatory authorities need to get a grip on. Apart from that - this looks like a desirable DS at last - I'll bet the Stellantis team who finished off the Tonale wished they had done this instead!

@@amir1836 FAIL, again... and it looks like you also "stayed in 1990s", because PSA now have only two platforms: EMP2 (presented in Jan. 2013) that replaced C segment PF2 and D segment PF3 platforms (first production vehicle on it was C4 Picasso II), and CMP platform, that replaced PF1 platform for A an B segment cars which - due to the GM and Chinese partnerships turnovers and construction changes - took a bit longer (in 2018 instead of 2014) to be presented . and got a new name in the process... CMP instead of EMP1 (first production vehicle on it was DS 3 Crossback)! in the near future PSA, now Stellantis, will have (additional?) 4 platforms known under the name "Stella".... STLAsmall, STLAmedium, STLAlarge and STLAframe, for pure electric vehicles. and these are simple facts that you can -(even if PSA cars doesn't interest you to the point of knowing them from the data of their vehicles) simply google before you post dumb conclusions based on outdated and misinterpreted data... ;)

Overall an okay review with beautiful images. You just haven't studied the infotainment system enough. The whole system can be customized to your liking, just like widgets on a Smartphone. This way you can perfectly have a screen completely about climate control and you do not have to switch between different shortcuts. Even the on-board computer and head-up display are adjustable. In this way it comes across that you are not satisfied with the system, but it is also not set up to your liking. By the way, they were 20 inch rims!

That touch pad in the lower middle would be great for right handed people in countries that drive on the right hand side of the road. For people in the UK, if you're not left handed it's going to be an added hassle. @@DSAutomobilesUK I know touchscreens and so forth are cheaper but interior buttons are an opportunity for a point of differentiation (Bentley organ stops for example). In the future where cars become more and more homogenized this differentiation is going to become more and more important. Also any cars which requires a touchscreen to change major controls like HVAC and volume is an instant do not buy for me; it tells me the designers were lazy, the finance team was a bit too involved and it's also far less safer than physical controls that you can feel for without taking your eyes off the road (and no, I don't want to use voice control; if I'm listening to a podcast I have to pause the podcast, pause my train of thought, spend a few seconds talking to the car then hope that it does what I asked. Pushing a button or turning a dial literally takes a second and comes without the added annoyances I just described).

14:00 "Hybrid must be charged to deliver it's maximum efficiency" This sounds very questionable to me. You break - and that energy goes into a battery in a hybrid. Also, even in hybrid mode the engine supplies a bit of power to the battery and the software decides what's the optimal gear. So, one minute you may be driving with engine in lower gear that does driving and charging but when you press your foot down, the car can accelerate without changing the gear.

It was all looking good until we got to the infotainment system and controls. The manufacturers are repeatedly putting strange controls that are bad to use. Why is the AC hidden in the screen awkwardly when there’s buttons already? Why are there 2 different controls for each air vent!?!

ALSO DS 4 PRICE RISE of 40 K PLUS put the rivoli ,performance line (cross or non cross ) and another fancy named one, into the £570 per annum ROAD TAX for next , so thats another 2 grand to pay on top of standard 170.00 till end of 5th year. I think now the E in the name is for EXPENSIVE LOL but i do admire the squashed suv styled body.

I have a DS3 crossback. Additionally you can't use Citroën dealers for services so make sure there is a dealer near you. My car been off the road for 4 months since March 2021 not for big issues but issues they can't fix due to supply chain issues etc. When it's running right lovely cars to drive but those little things in tech are a pain and slowly eat away at you.... Nice car, nice looks but I'll thought out design

DS has a brand is new, but they come from Citroën. The name comes from the 1955 Citroën DS and the first “modern” DS is the Citroën DS3. Originally it was a premium lineup within Citroën and they where heavily based on Citroën’s (the previous Citroën DS4 was based on the Citroën C4) But now they have been separated from Citroën and the first “non-Citroën” car they made is the DS 7 Crossback.

One of the shortcut buttons is for heating and fans so you just select that and it has all controls on screen. Reselecting satnav does not lose anything.
