Did that man just say belt driven oil pump??
@jackking55675 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Regardless of teeth in the belt - they all sap energy through tension and rolling force. It's less efficient than a gear train and more prone to breakage (no oil = ded engine). This is simply Ford making things that cannot be repaired. Another example is the sealed cam system - that's a whole new cam set and metal holder/cradle which will cost far too much. This isn't about eco and saving the planet - this is about giving work to Ford service dealerships. Don't even get me started on adblu injection. Combine adblu to the fuel figures quoted and add in the chemical processing to make adblu and ship it. My son's a car mechanic and the Ecoboost engines are only good for 70k miles and then they fall to bits.

I don't mind interference engine, as long as it has atleast chain-driven oilpump. Better yet, chain-driven camshafts. I mean, any engine can do milion miles with proper maintanance. The difference is when you really start abusing it. Something is gonna break. And nowadays engines are made to not just break, but to self-destruct when abused. Thumbs up for 2L diesel, but thumbs down the dorky belt-driven oil pump.
@gregorymalchuk2727 жыл бұрын
Apple_Marty Czech Yeah, but a timing belt failure on an interference engine is just as fatal as an oil pump failure would be. The engine I was thinking of was the little 4 cylinder diesels used in the 1980's Volkswagen Golfs and Rabbits. It was a an awesome engine, and extremely fuel efficient, but it was an interference engine with a timing belt, and many have died because of this.

I see Ford has learned nothing from it's past mistakes with the 6.0L. It almost started leaking oil as I was watching the video. Good for them however designing a new combustion engine especially a diesel. Diesels are the most efficient engines available, if you don't modify them. Though electric may work for some people, I for one will never buy a hybrid as long a conventional vehicles are available because diesels get better fuel mileage better performance, have lower maintainence costs and are cheeper. Electric cars will never replace combustion until they cost the same, can go 700 miles on a charge, can be recharged in 6 minutes, and have charging stations at every gas station including the mom and pop ones in the middle of Wyoming. Electric cars have a very limited market, don't forget they pollute the environment as well just somewhere else. We should be looking at cradle to grave emissions. Meaning every kind of emissions not just air pollution.

That is simply not true. Untreated diesel (no fuel additives), exhaust contains carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and particulates as well heavy metals and H2O and O2. DEF treated diesel exhaust also contains ammonia. Add fuel additives and now you get highly toxic dioxins and furans.
@williamsnyder42187 жыл бұрын
Starting in 2010 Ford built all there diesels in house. International cut ties with Ford because Ford didn't want to pay fair market price for thier engines. It took a judge to order Ford to pay.

William Snyder Ford also lost their rump on warranty claims on the 6.0 Power Stroke. From what I understand, Ford sued Navistar for warranty money. Navistar's saving grace was bigger trucks didn't have nearly the problems, partially because the emissions requirements are different between class 2&3 trucks and class 4 and up. I read something like 60% of the 6.0's had warranty claims.

Belt in oil is just looking for an early failure. My previous Mk4 Mondeo 1.8 nearly had a snapped belt. I replaced it at 90k which was well below the recommended interval. The belt was cracked between every tooth . The correct ford oil had been used since new.

How does the EGR system work with the turbo? Are they feeding exhaust gas on the input side of the turbo compressor? That seems like a good way to ruin turbochargers.

Had one in a ford transit custom, never had an issue and never a breakdown, has over 150,000 miles on the clock. It was serviced at the intervals stated by ford. I cannot see any issues and tbh most engines are throw away now, labour rates just don't lend well to rebuilding.

Now all Ford needs to do is pair these new ecoblue engines with cars before all countries BAN diesels , come on Ford, why so LATE I mean countries like India,Australia etc are waiting for a smart Fiesta ,Ecosport,Focus, Kuga/Escape, Edge etc with these engines And what about pairing the new 9 speed Automatic with diesel engines?
@MJ-tx5ps7 жыл бұрын
Ponygt 662 well said
@pauldavison71057 жыл бұрын
Ponygt 662 diesel won't be banned , don't believe the politicians. Trains and lorries have an infrastructure based on diesel engines. There is no technology available to replace diesel in heavy haulage. There is already tech available making diesel cleaner than petrol for emissions. There is always an underlying financial basis. Governments need taxes and no better way than taxing diesel. If people move to petrol they get more tax anyway as they are not as efficient so you buy more fuel. Electric or hybrid just isn't there yet.
@ponygt66297 жыл бұрын
Diesel can never be as clean as petrol , petrols emit far less NOx than diesels, COx true diesels can go as low or lower than gas engines, but not NOx which is also a major pollutant I am not saying diesel for trucks will be eliminated, but for everyday cars, they might start disappearing in another 5 years time

Another engine each got a belt running on oil? U dont learn the lesson with 1.8tdci engine failure timing belt running on oil and snapped? Not good idea special oil pump driven by a wet belt.
@fnnor7 жыл бұрын
because ? why going to a louder chain that got also more friction than the belt ?
@axores207 жыл бұрын
fnnor loud chain? Never heard that engines have issues with chain, if u change the oil on the right interval u shouldn't have problems. And the chain on that engines is small they only drive the fuel pump then a belt goes from the pump to the cameshaft. Still think belt running on oil is not a clever idea. Or why not change the design and put one belt from the bottom to the top and not running in oil like another engines do like psa 2.0 diesel 1.6 tdci etc. This is mine opinion off course someone maybe like the idea belt running on oil snap and pay big bill to repair or have a chain goes louder and pay only for replacement of the chain and not open the engine to fix the bent valves. Each is more cheaper? Replace chain or replace the valves? Replace the chain off course.
@fnnor7 жыл бұрын
that oil driven belt is running since many years now in the Ford 1.0 Ecoboost and its do its job fine. No problems at all.
@winstonzulueta10796 жыл бұрын
fnnor but this will be place on pick up and suv. i think its not good idea for the long run
@petelattimer68086 жыл бұрын
@@axores20 if you have a chain driven engine and the chain snaps you will still bend valves, if thats how the engine is designed. also, the dealer told me the 2.0TDCI was a wet belt, same as the 1.8TDCI. and yes the reason manufacturers went to belts in the first place was PURELY due to belts being quieter. and in most cases no less reliable IF you changed them!

Sustainability is first and foremost three things, when it comes to products, namely products need to be 1) Durable 2) Repairable and rebuildable 3) Recyclable. So, a diesel engine needs to last 500k (km), after which it's repaired for the next 500k, after which it's rebuilt. Repeat this cycle for 3-4 times after which it's time to recycle. Thank you, sir. Well... actually diesel engine should last at least 1 million km without major repairs. The same goes for transmission.
