Hi Thomas, excellent review again ! As you asked, I think the exterior design is very premium ,and the interior is just stunningly good. I made a test drive last week and this is super comfortable and so relaxing to drive. Power is also more than sufficient. The model I tested had artificial leather seats and it's really good, I would go for this interior finition. I consider buying this on in the future cause my kids are growing so fast ;) Just fearing to loose too much in driving fun compared to my GLA... hmmm. Decisions, decisions !!! :)

Another great review. I was not particularly interested in this car. But you have actually made it much more appealing. I am beginning to like the look of it and the interior looks great. As you rightly point out, performance isn't everything, but comfort is for some of us. Also, I just don't like diesel, in spite of Particulate Filters.

Excellent review, my only complaint is the cameraman's constant pushing in and out during some segments which is nauseating and completely unnecessary. Just show us what we want/need to see. I don't want to feel like I'm on a sailboat. Otherwise, thumbs up! I also completely agree with you about the back end, and the safety issue on the trunk.

Hi Thomas, I enjoyed this review as I have been enjoying all the others. When it comes to your comments on leather seats I just want to remind you that as long as we eat beef steaks the hide comes as a byproduct and has to be used for something.
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 4 жыл бұрын
thanks! It's not a byproduct, that's a common misconception. Would u care for which body part u are being killed „first“? It makes no difference, you give money to an industry which makes profit by exploiting animals and humans against their will. Leather is not a byproduct of the meat industry, or would you consider meat to be a byproduct of the leather industry? That's the very same argument if you think about it. First, check out what the leather industry is trying to do: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIHCdKmCocZ5oqs Below this video you'll find more resources in the pinned comment to explain the topic even more in-depth.

Cal, just a fantastic car, handles like a sports car, mine is white pearl with the black interior. I paid $41,500 out the door with all the options on it. Agree with you, nowadays most SUV is designed really sporty so the glass / window area is a bit chopped and the dashboard is designed pretty high. If you want an SUV with a really excellent spacious feel and large window area, with low dashboard position, Subaru Forester XT is the winner. Even the quarter back window is huge and really helps when you're backing up.

thanks again for this detailed review! about supporting your team, what about a video to introduce all of you ? Back to this SUV, front grille is a stopper to me, way to big. In the interior: how did they get more than 500ltr trunk, I guess they included the hidden under floor volume... not practical. Design wise, I don't like the too many various shapes (buttons seems to be coming from different cars), nor fake aluminium plastic, nor the inside door handles, visible screws on 'premium'? and... what's with the analog clocks really? (even on Passat that's something I really don't need) i like the exterior from the side/rear.

Great review as usual Thomas! I feel so honoured that you mentioned my comment about Volvo having the safety mechanism on the automatic tailgate. But I think you already tested unintentionally when you first review the new XC90 and that was where I noticed the safety feature. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHulXqicgJ6YntE If you look at 54:35 and 55:52 when you used the foot sensor to open the tailgate, it stopped suddenly when opening. I'm pretty sure, especially at 55:54 that this is the safety protection working because you were standing underneath it when it was closing.

This is an excellent review; seems pretty free of sponsor bias. The problem is that this is a compact crossover, a bit small and maybe under-powered (at least for the money). I think that Lexus has made the same mistake on several occasions making hybrids high mileage rather that performance (with good economy) oriented. That being said I'm looking to change cars probably next yr and will be looking at this one.

@mattesrocket
@mattesrocket 7 жыл бұрын
You didn't say something about the automatic transmission. Met somebody who bought this car and is unhappy: it's not shifting nicely for ex. when overtaking on the motorway, the fuel consumption is much higher than he expected with that electric engine, all the functions are bit complicate to operate/handle he said and he is feeling a bit uncomfy/artificial inside (no connection/feeling between driver, car and street), and I was surprised that at the rear camera there are no moving guide lines depending on your steering angle - at this price.

Danke Thomas! I'm not a fan of this design. Much too complicated with all the creases, shadow lines and edges. Reminds me of the Korean marques actually. I admit it does look better in person. My neighbour was driving one but I don't imagine it will age well. Look at the 911 simple design that's timeless! And probably much nicer to wash than the origami Lexus body :) Good to see different designs on the road - just not pour moi! Ciao.

Great review, yet I don't agree about it not looking premium enough on the outside. Sculpting a mass production car in such a way, even if somehow overdone to some, isn't easy or cheap despite new computerized techniques and materials involved. If you look for small details you find them. Too bad it didn't feature these futuristic 3D full LED headlights seen on higher trim levels. As for two kinds of moonroof, the C-Class from Mercedes offers that choice as well.

City driving is where Toyota hybrids excels. The way the e-CVT works in slow moving traffic is far far far better ( and relaxing) compared to conventional or dual clutch transmissions. Especially dual clutch transmissions are horrible. Air conditioning works completely different than today's conventional ICE cars, where in city driving, when the engine stops, the AC is reducing the air flow ( to protect the small battery)and , after a while, you start feeling you need to deactivate the stop and start system to be able to have the air conditioning working properly. In other words, the stop & start systems in ICE cars are simply jokes. In Toyota hybrid AC compressor is 100% electric and using the hybrid battery to operate so it can operate at 100% capacity with or without the ICE engine. In traffic jams or slow moving traffic, a hybrid or an electrical car are simply like Zen therapy ....

Been looking forward to this review, Thomas. However I find it biased. You are apparently not a Lexus fan. You don't even like it, and you're judging too much on its design language. But thanks for the review anyway. It's good to see different view points. And now I see why there are so few Japanese cars in Germany

I don't hate this design but it's far from beautiful. I really don't like the plastic around the wheel wells or the wheels themselves. The CX-3 is so much better from a style standpoint.

Just bought a used one with 50kkm on the meter for 30k EUR. Coming from a 2014 520dXA with M-pack, the Lexus seats feel like sitting in whipped cream, which my bottom and my back really appreciate. It is not a driving machine like the Beemer though, but that is a question of choice and I wanted a bit more comfort after 8 years with z Germans. Another thing is the drivetrain - I feel that diesel is going to be taxed to death and the design is different! I live in a country where most SUV's are Geman made or Land Rover or Volvo and it gets quite boring in the end.

It is a beautiful car with a vibrant look that indeed looks premium. Why do so many journalists insist on finding german cars more premium? Their design is so boring, their interiors gloomy and they have a philosophy that promotes agressive driving. I might be wrong but at least this is my opinion.

These will be on US motorways when every broken BMW diesel SUV is in the recycle bin. And each owner will have $30k more in the bank. And it will have consumed 20% fewer hydrocarbons. In the US, no comparison.

Germans always think their design is the best. The Lexus design is waaaaay better looking than a Mercedes GLC and in my opinion years ahead of the competion. The Lexus looks like a 2025 Audi. This car looks great from almost every angle possible and the design will last. Swallow your german pride and stop with the ”I am not sure about the design” argument.

Autogefühl Ok. It is just that I don’t understand what you find “dramatic”? with the design? Yes angles are sharp but perfected and the car has sold more than any other german SUV (no matter what size). It is more reliable than any other german car (facts) and the design obiously appeals to more buyers than other cars.. so again, what is dramatic?

Could Thomas Stop giving us HIS opinions on the various elements of the cars that he describes; We are all tired of his Veganistic opinions on Leather Seats and What makes a Good SUV or not bearing in mind that he is 6'2" and so most cars/smaller SUVs will be encroaching on his general frame. That the Major Car manufacturers are developing Sportier looking Mid Sized SUVs is the norm now! It is not about what he Likes rather than What is there on the said Vehicle itself! Describe what you seen, NOT what you like or prefer; like all the other Video loggers (Vloggers). We are Not All Leather Haters, You Know!

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIHCdKmCocZ5oqs In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette. Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

+Francesca Viard Have you ever drive Lexus before saying this? For me personaly Lexus is even better than the Mercedes. Almost every time it's more comfy (I mean comparing the classes like IS with C, GS with E, LS with S, LX with GL, RX with ML...) and it's always much more reliable! European's just too much pay attantion on fuel efficiancy. I don't really care of it if my car cost about 50-80k euro. I'd better pay attention on comfort or sportiness, build quality and reliability. Really funny to hear that Thomas comparing NX with X3 :) how can you compare comfort with sport? X3's compatitor is Maccan (for someone Audi Q5)! To my mind Japanese Luxury can't be compared with German or any ather. It's like to compare A. Lange & Söhne, NOMOS Glashütte and Sinn with Grand Seiko & Credor (they all pefect in it's classes but so much different) :D
