Don’t understand the hate in these comments for the controls. They’re encouraging you to keep your eyes on the road unlike all the other manufacturers making distracting capacitive buttons on the steering. In this case the HUD shows what you’re about to press before you press it while keeping eyes on the road. Not just tech for tech’s sake.

@@JAM_2024 not sure what transmission issues you are referring to, I think toyota's eCVT is one of the most reliable ones + lexus provides incredible warranty for it; I used to own a mercedes e, a mazda6, a lexus gs, a bmw 5 and a toyota camry, and in my personal opinion I would never step into a german vehicle again in my life. Running costs / service prices with germans are just out of control, and they are not anywhere near as reliable as japanese. And lately I think qualitywise (including interior material, build quality and paintwork) japanese already outperfrom germans. But again, this is just my opinion. I will be changing my car again after the new year and it will be either a Lexus NX or a Mazda CX-60 (I know mazda is not as posh as lexus however I never had even a single issue with my mazda 6 and I really like the way cx-60 looks), depends on the outcome of test drives. :)

So many driving modes. Also the ICE on itself can switch between Atkinson mode with port injection and Otto mode with direct injection in an instance. Due to electronically controlled variabel intake and exhaust camshafts as well as the dual injection system with port and direct injection. And that combined the EV motors up front and in the rear. So many combinations possible!

'What do you think?' You ask, Thomas. Well, as I approach my 80th birthday, here are some thoughts from a fully paid up member of the Boring Old Farts Club. But, I did pass my Advanced Driving Test when I was in my 60s. First, I must thank you for your excellent English, and your in depth, honest appraisal, and in depth knowledge. I am currently watching every 2022 Hybrid SUV review because, in 2-3 years I will be buying one (I never buy new). My current Lexus RX 400h is 12 years old, and still a dream to drive, although, I do wish that it had the equivalent of hydrolastic suspension. and that the road noise (despite fitting the quietest tyres) wasn't so obvious. Also, on full acceleration, the front end nearly takes off, and you nearly lose control, despite the enormous piece of kerb stone bolted under the front of the car to hold it down. So, this car, compared to its modern equivalent, is very old fashioned, but a great car, nevertheless. Having spent hours on KZbin watching many reviews of these vehicles, and also the full electric versions, I am puzzled why so much technical wizardry is built into these cars. For example, in an emergency, I am going to slam on the brakes. Because I am a human being (allegedly), and that is how I am programmed, by experience, to react, after 63 years driving. No amount of 'protective programming' (e.g.,pedestrian recognition) will make me believe that all I have to do is trust.

I really don't understand the problem with the buttons on the steering wheel and the head-up display. I've been trying the vehicle for 5 minutes, and I think it's the most brillant system ever. You never have to take your eyes off the road/HUD, because the button that your thumb is resting on is shown in the HUD. And with the switch function you have 8 function with 4 buttons whereas all other vehicles have just 1 function per button, and you just have to make do with the layout that they have chosen..

Thanks for the review, I have a Benz A250 myself and my wife drives BMW X1, we're currently deciding to change one of them into BMW X3 20i or Lexus NX 350 F Sport (or RX 350) for extra room b/c of our new born son... and I'd like to add that... The issue with German cars imo is because of additional tax (about 20-30% more expansive) AND most importantly the speed limit in Taiwan. (our Highway speed limit is at 100 km/h, and the new traffic law passed last year makes 141 dangerous driving and would suspend license for 1 year, so the "best" part for all Benz/BMW model for driving beyond 140km/h upto 200 km/h is quite useless. So Lexus NX 350 is quite lucky that it would never have to face BMW X1 at speed higher than 120 for the most part in Taiwan. (Plus, Speeding ticket at 121km/h is around $400 USD). Also, because Taiwan is small, mostly local driving, less highway, the general speed is not high, and cars in the front would often change lanes or make unexpected stops/turns or cars on the side parking... the 5AU design for auto-follow is quite useless in city-driving... I would have to break out of any type of auto-follow / center laning very often... (Honestly it took me quite a few year to get used to the traffic here.

I agree with you completely. Lexus cars are not perfect but are very reliable. They insist on not using a turbo which makes them much more reliable in the long term. And their eCVTs are also extremely reliable, plus their hybrid tech is very much proven at this point. They are not the most fancy cars, the most sporty or the fastest, but they are cozy, fuel efficient, and will last a long time with not much service time and running costs. Though if you are rich, a German car is always better to drive and show off.

What makes you say "actually" every time you have something positive to say about the Lexus? Language barrier or do you just assume it wouldn´t be of good quality? Feels like you are very biased with German cars. Love your reviews but try to be more neutral imo. Also, why are you only talking about tech when you are test driving.. Every car has different infotainment system. You learn it after some days. Just because you are used to the VW system doesn´t make other brands systems more complicated. I´m sure VW´s is as complicated for someone coming from Tesla etc.
@autogefuehl8 ай бұрын
Actually does not have any rating in it. I am not biased towards any brand. Most infotainment systems of modern cars are bad. VW group are among the worst for sure except the very very new ones for example in the ID7 and all-new Tiguan or Passat which are finally usable and quick enough. I dont save criticism with German brands. Toyota and Lexus are the most reliable brands out there for buying and keeping. But of course they also dont do everything perfectly.
@alexanderjenselius20048 ай бұрын
Maybe this isn't fair cause this video is 2 years from now and your way of reviewing has for sure improved. Just disappointed at this video because 50% of the video consists of you talking about infotainment and personal preferences with a steering wheel instead of some useful information regarding the drive/practicality etc. Never heard you talk about other brands the same. And like I said, using the word actually with every positive aspect of the car shows you have a negative view beforehand.

Hi Thomas whenever you mention seats - you prefer fake leather, but don’t you think that plastic fake leather is worse for the environment than cow skin - for which the cows *aren’t* specifically killed for. What are we supposed to do with the cow skin produced either way? Throw it away maybe?
@autogefuehl2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIHCdKmCocZ5oqs In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpzNdHSjppaSbqc Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qXiouAbJeIiqM Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

With regard to the odd user interface and associated controls (particularly the steering wheel multi-function controls) - I believe that Lexus engineers that worked on this car determined that the target owner would be younger and therefore more apt to be attracted to "more" technology. More does not mean BETTER. In this case, more means CONFUSING and WORSE. Just because something can be done with technology absolutely does not mean that it should be done. So - this car to me is an engineering and marketing failure. Would be easy to fix it but I am not confident that the Lexus team responsible for the design will either acknowledge that the car is messed up much less correct it. In summary - this is an excellent review and I absolutely appreciate the information and perspective.

How many percent of Germany’s population drives foreign car brands (if Skoda and Seat and Ford are not included)? I have heard that to many germans It’s a self-evident to drive a domestic car and that It can be possible that majority of germans has never driven any foreign car brand… 😉🚘🇩🇪

In idle mode at a traffic stop, does this car charge the battery? sounds better than simply burning fuel at the red light.

Hi Tomas. In July the new speed limiter rules are to come into place across Europe. What does this really mean? Is it going to be like when you hit the limit button in the old 5 series, and the car would only speed up if you reached kick-down?

All of the latest safety gizmos distract me and make it less safe to drive. I hired a car lately with bloody annoying lane assist technology. It kept tugging the wheel, and the first time it happened I thought the front tyre had blown! It was also really difficult to disable, and it reset every time you switched the car off. My 2007 Subaru legacy is about as complicated as I want or need.

Very good review, as usual Thomas! Could you please review the Dacia Sandero (and also Stepway) with the tce90 engine and manuel gearbox? And could you compare it, considering its price, to the VW Polo, Skoda Fabia, Toyota Yaris? Thanks! Greetings from Belgium, the country with the shitty and slow roads 😉

hmmm I havn't own one, but I have been driving hybrid car for years, from Toyota prius to Lexus rx 450h. In my opinion, this car is not worth to buy and the price. 1: With this price tax, most people will consider buying a pure EV such as Tesla or Mach E. 2: it's not better than a rav4 prime with double price. 3: it is not as premium as it sounds (Lexus), it doesn't come with Panoroof, doesn't come with Mark Lavinson sound system, it takes premium gas. There is nothing to save about this car. Get the 350h is better

Totally agree about the new car displays, they are made for the play station generation and are dangerous. A good example is the new VW Golf 8, after driving it for 10 minutes I walked away… they are ruining all the cars with this new technology rubbish.

I like lexus a lot, beatiful cars. The look and feel of the interior is always great. However the guy that design infotainment/controls needs to be fired. There are always these really weird decisions that makes you wonder who would think this is a great idea. Also if they ever want to have a chance vs mercedes or bmw in the european market, then they really need to adjust their pricing
@Tyrewhisperer2 жыл бұрын
In terms of pricing. Lexus is much better due to the equipment they have while you have to buy options with Germans which will make it more expensive than Lexus.
@ΧρήστοςΔενέχεισημασία2 жыл бұрын
Lexus are far cheaper than anything mercedes/bmw in their class. Mercedes/bmw only appear "cheaper" when looking at their base models with no options, those are VERY basic with too much features/equipment missing, and you NEVER watch a review on youtube for a basic version of a german car.... Plus Lexus are far more reliable and far cheaper to own long term.
