To say Skill has more power.... 48v vs 36 Makita bogged a little vs Skilsaw. Maybe because makita was making a deeper cut Maybe compare both saws set at the same cutting depth
@gregcole69964 жыл бұрын
I’m too late with this obviously, but you’re right: both saws should be tested at the same depth of cut and then note that one could cut deeper if required. You can’t complain that a saw seems less powerful when it’s cutting several mil deeper.

Balance on a 'rear handle' saw doesn't matter. Once the saw is on the wood, it weighs nothing. Discharging the sawdust through the handle on the skilsaw might seem like a good idea until it gets clogged up with sappy green doug fir or pine. You will never see a framer with a vacuum hooked up to his saw, ever. The Makita is superior to the Skil in every real world situation. If you have the Makita saw, you likely have other Makita 18v tools. Makita has been in the cordless game so long, with so many great tools, there is no reason to buy the Skil.
@robertopics4 жыл бұрын
except for power, but in my case i git an old bosh (skil) worm drive saw for the heavy duty work.
Absolutely agree 110% I just got the 18 X 2 36v 12" Makita miter saw and it's just like you said "superior in every way" to others and I noticed on Amazon they have pretty reasonably priced combos that come with 4X 5.0 ah batteries + the dual speed charger and a tool like the chainsaw or the blower there are a bunch + all the batteries are interchangeable 110% Makita ✊👍

These are the two saws that ride in my truck and I have to say that I definitely reach for the Makita more often. Neither of these saws are in any way bad tools but if I had to pick one to run every day for just cutting framing lumber it would have to be the Makita. There's no contest when it comes to power, the winner being the skil. You don't really notice that power much until you're cutting wet treated or something that tends to bog down a saw. The cordless Skilsaw will honestly outpower the corded versions I'm used to. Anyway, the reason I tend to reach for the Makita is honestly weight and balance. For most of the normal crosscuts in 2x lumber you won't notice much of a difference in weight but the second you turn it sideways to rip a sheet of plywood leaning up or throw it over your head for a few minutes you'll notice the difference. The batteries don't really matter much they both seem to die when you're in the rafters hanging by one arm upside down like any battery operated tool. Last point against the skil is the dust extractor thing, It works ok under ideal conditions but ripping wet yellow pine or treated it WILL clog up on you and clearing it out can be a pain.

Thanks for tools comparison! Would be awesome to see DeWalt dcs577 alongside them. In my country Makita + 4 5ah batteries costed me around 500$. DeWalt rear handle + 2 3ah(54-60v) would cost around 700$+ shipping, and the worm drive Skil with 2batteries would be around 1k$. So I stick with Makita. But I think either of them is a great tool and they're pretty damn close to each other. And it is stupid to decide without closer look on their other tools lineup.

The new Makita 40v batter for the rear drive is $200 for the 4ah. They’ll be about the same as the Skilsaw battery and the 4.0 isn’t the biggest battery but it’s pretty good considering it’s 40 volts. WH are the highest on the market with the Makita 40v batteries. Plus is there’s a large 40v line vs just the 1 Skilsaw. That’s the killer.

I've had the Makita for a while, but finally broke down and got the skilsaw. I just never felt right using a bastardized sidewinder as my primary circular saw. The biggest thing I love about the Skil is that it's a real tool, built the way it's ancestors have been for 80 years. I really hate that with the move to cordless, tools have gone from something you buy and use for a career to things that are at best only intended to last until the battery platform becomes obsolete. The Skil feels different- it's literally the classic worm drive design with a big battery plunked on the back. Which a lot of people use as a knock on it, but that is exactly what I want. And I think the concern about using a different battery system is a little overblown. While I agree that all else being equal it's nice to keep on one system, for a cornerstone tool like a circular saw, which is quite power hungry, you're pretty much going to have a battery (or set of batteries for Makita) dedicated to that tool anyway. So does it really matter if it is a different system? And yes it's heavy; so what? My great grandpa built houses in the 50s with an 8 1/4 worm drive that was 20+ lbs. Man up.
@carlosgavino6874 Жыл бұрын
Dang that's hard to ignore in the future I'm leaning toward a proven worm drive saw

I purchase the Makita and why I did it has nothing to do with the price, power or battery. Those are all good metrics when judging a tool, but they don't get at what makes a good tool for an individual user. It's been my experience when a tool stops being noticed in your hand, and integrates with you, that's the gold standard for tools ( vision, hands, brain and body). After a few cuts I learned the behavior of the saw and it become an extension of me and my cuts were faster, cleaner and more accurate. As a side note, If your worried about saw power, keep sharp blades on it. Pros - feel, balance, weight, line of site. Cons - I had to spend money

Makita for the win. Lighter and more efficient. Cheaper batteries that control over 250 different Makita tools. Reliable Hypoid gearing. No adding of oil to the self destructing worm drive gears. Reviewer complains of the tool bogging down...No that's the Makita brushless motors Automatic speed control lowering the RPM to give more the tool more torque, thus protecting the motor. The only advantage the Skil has, which is truly epic, is the dust management. But is that enough?...I think not. Great review though. you nailed all the testing. keep it up. Just do a little more research first.

I like the skill, with 48v off grid system you could mount it upside down and use it as a table saw with vacuum on the handle. Just have to make a custom attachment for power connection. Why not just use inverter and 110v or 220v regular table saw? Because this saw will do most of what you need and up to 40% energy savings if you keep DC to DC.
@petersonfamily62234 жыл бұрын
I do not like the dust discharge on the Skilsaw. Seems like a good idea at first but becomes clear it can be an issue if it becomes clogged. The Makita gets a thumbs up because of the number of tools that can use the batteries. I have an older (14 Years +) battery-powered Makita drill set and they perform as well today!! That is saying allot. Makita comes with a Bag! And this saw is on sale at HomeDepot and you get two free batteries as well. I went with this option to get the extra batteries for other tools. The new Makita battery platform will be compatible with the current system as well.

These videos should be looked at as for entertainment only. No one that works with these machines for a living would use them as shown here. Different variables need to be concider which render these results inconsistent. For example depth adjustment according to material being cut, blade type and sharpness, battery load, user force being applied during cut, material being cut, and width of blades. Comparing one saw to the other is like comparing apples to oranges. In my opinion either saw is great if you're making money with it. Otherwise both are useless if the operator can't use them.

Skil needs maintenance and it can be smelled oil.

And quality the skill saw but for bang for the buck I have to go with the Makita I got mine with 2 batteries for $95 I can't complain but you would complain if I didn't say cheers with a beer

Wow, that's one hell of a deal bro!

That is a great deal Depot had it for $169 on clearance. I bought mine for $250 with 4 batteries and thought that was a deal.

@@milanroets9697 it was on clearance at Home Depot and it didn't have the charger with it I already had a charger when I won subcompact from cup tools and they gave me a dual charger and a 2 Amp battery if I didn't have that's already I wouldn't have bought the other

The skill did it better then the makita but to much dust out the skill.

makita for the quality

When it comes to power the skil saw has the advantage because it's a worm drive provides more torque. But skil saw is still fairly pricey.
@JamieVauxnut14 жыл бұрын
This head to head is totally pointless !! They are both very good saws the makita is a standard drive saw with a rear handle and the skilsaw is a wormdrive ? Its like doing a head to head drill test but only one has hammer action then saying one was way better drilling concrete ... both are good but they are different tools more suited to different applications

That dust..discharge...it is a bitch...if you cutting up on the ladder a stud..in front of your face..like up above your face...if the wind blows...its all over your face...there was no reason for that feature...

I have some questions. As far as i.know dewalt.does not.make a worm drive batt saw just a worm drive STYLE saw. Kind of like the knock off styer augs vs the real augs from austria. So in the front of ur video u mentioned something about dewalt but as far as i know dewalt is not a true worm drive please correct if I'm wrong
@ToolReviewZone4 жыл бұрын
You are correct Sam. The only real wormdrive is Skil. Others are just (wormdrive style) rear handle saws
@samrowe28894 жыл бұрын
@@ToolReviewZone but also to clarify worm drive is in fact the gearing mechanics behind making the blade spin imparting more torque so then the Makita u showcased is also just worm style or rear handle so then if I want a battery worm o need skill but the Makita looked tasty too
@ToolReviewZone4 жыл бұрын
@@samrowe2889 yeah, I believe the rear handle saws are basically sidewinders configured a bit differently

@@ToolReviewZone thank u I'll be looking heavily into the skill

Where are each of the saws manufactured? That is the deal breaker for me

I do t like the makita dust extractor soon As the shoe makes contact with the wood the dust extractor just spits the dust all over your work as well as the saw I think the skil saw won this tool dual
