@@autogefuehl You hit the nail on the head. Toyota infotainment is still lacking behind Android Auto and other manufacturers. Fortunately, we have an Android option now. I am very surprised by the interior quality and seat. It is better than even Auris 2018 or Camry pre-2018. The 3-cylinder sound is more pleasant than the older one and has a better torque curve. The safety sense 2 with laser cruise control and pedestrian detection as standard is striking for Yaris price.

the question is, does it make sense to buy the hybrid over the normal one considering its a significant price jump. You would have to save 1000L of fuel to make it worth considering and the car probably wont even be driven enough to make it worth it with current gas prices

I love the thoroughness of Thomas' reviews and the cars I'm interested in more, I watch Autogefuhl, for the ones I just want to have an idea about, I watch Carwow or something similar. Additional interesting info: - The B mode does recuperate more at very low speeds and could thus be more efficient in this case, however at normal speeds, it does turn on the engine to use engine brake for long downhill moments, e.g. then used for running down a mountain while the battery is already full, overall less efficient. So usually just leave it in D mode. - PWR mode does tune the accelerator pedal whereas ECO mode tunes it down. - Toyota engineers say that wether Nickel Metal Hydride or Lithium Ion battery is used does not depend on which tech is best, they are switching back and forth depending on available raw material, concise vehicle, use case and also battery generation. They are using this tech here right now whereas the new generation Nickel Metal Hydride battery is also being developed. - The Toyota Yaris offers central airbag between driver and co-driver as first vehicle in this segment, great job for safety!
@harmdegraaf55794 жыл бұрын
B mode does less recuperation because it engages engine braking.
@moi_noirceur4 жыл бұрын
The principle of B mode is mainly to allow you to switch the continuous transmission to a "lower gear" as in manual, to prevent heat building in brakes for long downhills.
@qwasrfg3 жыл бұрын
The rationale behind the B mode should be properly understood. A hybrid vehicle has the advantage of having the possibility of using electromagnetic braking to slow the car because of the electric motors. Because of this possibility, the conventional mechanical brakes could be downsized somehow to reduce cost. Each time the electromagnetic braking is used, electrical energy is recuperated and sent to the drive battery to charge it. The problem is that during long braking situations (like when going downhill on a long road), the recuperated electrical energy from the main driving motor (MG2) is so much that the drive battery, being relatively small in terms of capacity, gets fully charged very quickly. Once the drive battery is fully charged, it can no longer accept any further electrical current from the MG2 and thus, according to Lenz's law, no back emf is developed to create the braking effect to slow down the car. Accordingly, the car's onboard computer then is forced to use the conventional mechanical friction brakes. However, since these are slightly undersized, they will become very quickly overworked. That's where the idea of using the conventional engine braking effect comes in. And Toyota does it in a brillant way with its Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) technology. In the B mode, the engine computer, using power electronics, sends the recuperated electrical energy from MG2 to MG1 (the electrical motor that reverses the car and spin the internal combustion engine (ICE) into operation whenever it is required), instead of into the drive battery. In this way, a current can flow, and according to Lenz's law, the electromagnetic braking effect is still obtained. However, in addition to the electromagnetic braking being obtained from MG2, since the ICE is now being spinned by MG1, additional braking effect is being derived when the ICE is doing work by air compression in the cylinders. The computer is not instructing the fuel injectors to send fuel to the cylinders and therefore the ICE will never start in this mode and will thus be working only as a compressor. In this way, the kinetic energy of the car is being converted into heat in the ICE, heat which is ultimately rejected to the atmosplere through the cooling radiator.
@SOMEONE-ME Жыл бұрын
Yes, this is quite often (about always actually) wrongly described for Toyota cars. B mode is really for mountains to help to keep your brakes safe and not overcharge battery. It actually recuperates less energy, but brakes more with petrol engine. There is a Polish video where guy measured how much energy was recuperated for both modes during same downhill drive and for B mode it was less (not much but measurable and repeatable). Most importantly car behaves differently as in B mode it breaks so heavily (but with petrol engine) that sometimes (less hill) he had to actually press acceleration. In D mode you break less (but recuperate more), but you need to press break pedal way more and use actual discs (so they can get hot).

I've owned the design model for 1.5 years. Toyota hybrids are perfect if you want to look at EV but don't have the infrastructure to support .e.g live in block of flats so unable to charge. This model is better in every way to the previous generations , handling is good , ride comfort good (mine has smaller wheels) , noise suppression ok but again better then previous generations. Over the summer months I average 75 mpg and I've had journeys over 100 mpg. However in winter this does fall back a lot seeing 55 to 65 mpg. Rear legroom seems smaller than previous gen and paint seems to chip really easy , I have blue metallic and I note Toyota has withdrawn this colour...maybe issue with paint? Radar cruise control...never had it before and I initially wished they offered a model that was cheaper without all the tech kit, however I'm converted and wouldn't be without it now. I've owned premium German brand cars and honestly they are no better you are just paying for the badge. I'd give this car a solid 8/10. And most importantly - no issues at all in 1.5 years.

Rumour has it that Toyota we’re going to present their fully electric range of vehicles at the Tokyo Olympics. Obviously because of COVID-19 that’s no longer possible but they were scheduled for full launch in 2023 using their newly developed solid state batteries which allow a range of 600 plus miles between charges.
@izo774 жыл бұрын
@@andydavis7254 Well, the Olympics were at first supposed to present Japan as a hydrogen nation. That seems to be ”on ice”. Now Toyota teases solid state batteries, knowing well that the technology won’t be exploitable another 5-8 years. In the meantime, they clame that they want too ”ease” costumers slowly into electrification via mass-produced hybrids, then plug ins, before full electrification. This looks a bit much like a desperate PR stunt, after realising that their ”wait and see strategy” on electrification was 5 years too late. The Coreans are leading, the Americans are pretending they do, the Germans have taken the turn, and the Chinese will eventually dominante. Remember how Japanese electronics went from pioneering to irrelevant ? Wait and see the next episode...

A couple of misconceptions: 'B' is a driving mode which increases engine braking. You perceive more braking in this mode than 'D', but the additional braking is not going to regen. For efficiency you should always use 'D'. Also. Acceleration in PWR mode is exactly the same as in ECO mode in the scenario showed in the video. The difference in the various drive modes is the throttle mapping curve.

Unless you are driving a lot of km every day in the city, buying this car doesn't make sense. And I mean a lot of km. For example, in my country, the basic trim (active) with the hybrid engine costs 17340 euros and the one with the small 1.0L 72hp costs 13770 (same equipment but different engines). This is a 3570 euros difference. Toyota gives 2.8 l/100km (active trim uses 15" rims, instead of 17" which consume 3.2 l/100km) consumption for the hybrid and 4.5 l/100km for the small one. Say you spend 1500 euros per year on petrol for the 1.0L engine. For the hybrid, you would spend 933, which is 567 euros difference. Add to that 100 euros taxes for the small engine. The hybrid pays no taxes because of low emissions. So we have 667 euros difference. The hybrid version will cover the extra cost of 3570 euros in 5.35 years. If you spend less on fuel you will need more years. For example, if you spend 800 euros on fuel for the 1.0L engine, the hybrid will need 8.88 years to cover the difference. In the end, you also have to consider battery degradation, especially after 10 years and how much it will cost to replace it.

I had a prior _Yaris_ model and the handling felt somewhat like you were sat over the front axle. It would understeer, and when cornering, felt as though - if you were, say, bearing left - the right-side, front tyre and wheel had to cope with more _Newtonian_ physics than it was truly capable of. (And, vice versa.) So, I imagine that, sitting further back in the cabin will give the vehicle more of a 'big car' feel, vis-a-vis the handling.

How has it held up as your first car? I’m thinking about getting it for my first too
@helenafromla2 жыл бұрын
@@andashestoashes Overall love it, the handling is soooo comfortable, like driving a Go-Kart, especially brilliant for cities. Only CONs I can think of: -Apple Car Play (not my style) -Small trunk -very lightweight, you will notice this on highways at high speed driving corners -had to get a new battery after one year during a deep winter (free of charge with the dealer) due to lack of usage on my part

It's so sad that in the US they are going to stop prediction of the Yaris because the Mazda look didn't work out and yet instead of bringing this beautify to the US, no we are not getting one of the best selling hatch backs for Toyota.

Excellent car review, clear explanations on most topics - I only miss a real central city drive test where the fuel efficiency and driving agility will be most at work on the hybrid function. Thanks anyway !

This is the car we need! I despise SUVs. No, actually I HATE THEM. They ruined the automotive industry!

Nice looking car. My Mum needs a new car so this is a possibility. I noticed in your reviews you never talk about safety equipment such as the number and location of air bags for example, N-Cap crash test results for a vehicle or service intervals and costs. Is it something you could possibly do in the future? Thanks for your review.

All that Toyota needs to do is a hot RWD verison of the Corolla and yes I know that they make the 86 but I want a *real* modern verison of the AE86, the hatchback and all

Next year they will make a awd 1.6 3cylinder manual corolla with 270+ps ! So be patient my friend
@CaptainBlitz4 жыл бұрын
@@thodoriskonstantopoulos3691 what massive turbo have they stuffed on that thing that it makes over 260 hp? is that the same engine from the GR Yaris? Also that's cool and all but I'd only change it to RWD and then it'd be perfect

The second airport barriers open only when first one closes. Also there's 30km/h zone till 21:07 :) you could get speeding ticket for 150€ going 50 in 30 zone :) BTW in Belgium speeding over 7km/h is already 60€, so be careful. In Germany I think it's only 20€

Hi Thomas, it appears the UK version will NOT get maps, only Apple car play/android auto heated seats & steering wheel. I am still trying to find out if we do get the adjustable boot height floor.

I really like the interior, except that multimedia screen that doesn't fit the overall rounded and organic forms. It pops up strangely and isn't faced to the pilot as I like them to be in cars. This should be improved in future iterations to make it much more atractive for the pilot. I also expected a much sporty feeling. That said, it is a very interesting offering from Toyota.

Hi Thomas , can you please tell me how noisy is the car on 100 km/h ? My main driving will be on the highway at this speed . And also the fuel consumption at this speed ... thank you 🙂

Hi, I quite like the new Yaris, and seems like they managed to ged rid off few details I am not very satisfied with previous generation first facelift (until 2017) (now 2 front wipers, rear wiper centered in correct position now, more decent and effective arm rest between front seats, bottle holders in rear side doors). But I want to ask, if there is some roof light for rear passengers? Because in previous generation there was nothing and I just missed it there everytime I wanted to take something from my bag or so. In one video from Asia I think few months ago there was a roof light in the interior, but it can be specific only for certain Asian markets and not for Europe. Thanks in advance for the answer. Nice review by the way,

I am not impressed by its design. Basically, it resembles the old one with various parts of the exterior toned up. On the other hand, I am impressed by its engine and fuel efficiency. More HP with less emissions? Well done! This is what we look for. I am a little bit confused about its capacity to travel conveniently (e.g. noise, overtakes, etc.). Its price in Greece starts at 17.500 EUR, but the most interesting trim is priced at 19.000+. It is not cheap...but other mini hybrids are also expensive (Fiesta 19.000+, Clio is expected above 20.000, Fit over 20.000). Overall, i think it is a very good buy, especially if you do not care much about design which I think it is its main weak point.
