Here is a bit more info: - A lot of the basic materials can be collected by utilizing specific mods in a walker. - Cattail, Corn, Fiber and Wood is best gathered by a walker equipped with forgager or lumberjack respectively, if you aren't hunting quality materials specifically. - Rupu Pelts can be ground into Fiber (this is especially important for quality crafting). - Rupus and their emcampments hold many of the basic materials and are for example the only source of huge cactus fruit or straight up vision potions on hard tiles. - Iron ore cannot be gathered at the moment, it is a very low chance (below 0.3%) drop from any rupu except the Forerunners on hard tiles only, same applies to feathers but with better droprate. - If you use the second contaminated water to purified water recipe in a cooking pot while being on sand it collects it automatically, even if the pot is on a walker and moving. - Charcoal is best farmed by cutting down the trees in the center of hard maps. - Red wood can be gathered by using a toolpod with a sawblade attachment. - The tooltip of weapons and tools has a number that gives you more resources per hit if it is higher. - Quality crafting and resources requires a longer video than this in itself. Given that a lot of it is buggy and subject to change. and lastly but most importantly: You can kill other players and take their stuff. This is the most profitable and time efficient strategy when you do it right.

True, it was introduced in the recent update. Lightwood can be found on the new Kali Spires map that will eventually start spawning.
