ok so I read this book like first week of September and have been so excited to hear everyone's thoughts. this is so funny to me because I gave bunny 3 stars (like you said with alls well, it had all the elements that I liked- it just didn't land with me). I gave all's well 5 stars. I thought it was fantastic. not necessarily fun to read, but the deeper I got into the book the more I loved it. ************** (SPOILERS) the transferring of the pain, the magic elements, the last dream sequence was SO GOOD and I had like audable and physical reactions to the whole sequence. I also have had chronic pain for 10+ years and while I don't think of this books purpose was representation, I did feel a lot from the conversations around pain. I thought all the characters were realistic and I loved how twisting everything it turned. the loss of reality while experiencing control was so fascinating to read. this was not a fun book but I loved everything about it and it really landed with me. favorite of the year for sure. also!!!!!!! please read nightbitch!!!!! I read it this year not thinking much of it but I genuinely think you would love it. it has a lot of weird/psychologically thrilling aspects, and it also made me have like physical reactions of like "oh my god" or like recoiling from the absurdity of some scenes. literally I've never read a book that I specifically wanted to reccomend to you more. I think you would love it based on your other 5 star reada

Finally read this one. I actually really enjoyed this one. I enjoy actually enjoy these styles of story where a mystical person messes things up for the hero.

Omg nooooooo! I loved Grace! Probably cause she reminded me so much of my best friend, Grace. I feel like the way Grace reacted to Miranda’s pain was very realistic. She stood by her and tried really hard to be understanding and helpful. But if we were exhausted reading about Miranda’s pain, imagine how exhausted Grace was by living with it for years. She did say some not cool sh*t to Miranda but that was a very realistic depiction of loving someone that has a problem you don’t understand.

I’m so happy I picked it up for the book club. Would’ve never read it otherwise. Ended up being one of my favourite books of the year.

REC: If you liked All's Well, you'd like The Shadow in the Glass by JJA Harwood. It's a gothic Cinderella retelling set in Victorian England and it has a similar element where a magical creature helps the heroine reach her dreams but at a cost. It's a tad darker then all's well cz people die in Harwood's book. So if you want this with a body count try the Shadow in the Glass.

I genuinely liked it. Just finished it like an hour ago but I did buy it to read for the book club hahahaha 5 stars and it made me want to re-read Bunny. I have had chronic pain since I was a child and then a car accident in my twenties that has caused a bunch of back pain - I felt everything so deeply. The experiences and the friendships... the horror was there. I do think this was a horror book, but to a particular type of person. And the catharsis! I felt calm when it finished. It felt real. The ending IS what ironic pain is. So good. And hello to anyone who finds this comment even though it's nearly two months late. hahahaha

This may sound unhinged, but when I read an account like Miranda’s of her pain, I almost feel the pain like I’m aching and such. It’s a weird experience and I’m not sure if anyone else experiences this when reading? It happens a lot when I’m reading, like I absorb the feelings of the characters.

Being in Miranda’s head AND body was exhausting. I thought the portrayal of Grace was very realistic as just reading about Miranda’s pain was horrible, Grace is so close to it. It did make feel a little guilty thinking about it that way too! I didn’t have fun while reading and kinda hated the book for a while. But after completing it and listening to your live show, I ended up rating it 5 stars. Mona Awad is really flaunting her MFA because this book was a heavy hitter. I am SO excited to see what she does next because while this wasn’t what I was looking for, I ended up really appreciating it while not necessarily enjoying it.
