The art in these books was just so…beyond what anyone else has any capability of doing. Its got some indescribable quality.

Speaking of Morrison's tightly-woven script. There's this great subtle mystery woven throughout that Quintum is reformed Lex Luthor from the future. It's not explicitly stated, but just a fun thing that Morrison and Quitely have sprinkled throughout the series. For example, first issue: Lex talking to Quintum, then General Lane says: “Lex? Are you talking to yourself again?”

The informed discussions on the craft of comic books is why I came to Cartoonist Kayfabe and moments like Ed imploring Jim to play Shadow Of The Colossus is why I stay.

I love this comic. I'll admit, there's an issue later where Superman saves a young girl and what he told made me cry, honestly. This comic does have pathos.

It made me cry, too. I'm a little choked up just thinking about it.

THE Superman story with Morrison and Quitely on full burners, channeling the Silver Age wonder of the Man of Steel through the lens of the 21st Century. And, holy Hell: Steve frelling Lombard?!? Oh, my giddy aunt! And this is just the first half! Keep it comin', kidz! 🖖♾ ps: Congrats, Ed, on RED ROOM #1! Picked up my copy at Heroes in Charlotte: Excellent work, Sir!

There’s a great Easter egg in issue 3- keep an eye on the newspaper 📰 it appears at the start during the dinosaur invasion, and shows an advert for a car. Later, when Sampson shows superman the same newspaper, the corner is lifted up and you can see the car ad underneath. When the Ultrasphinx lays down the riddle, superman’s answer is the copy from the car ad, which he read ‘through’ the newspaper earlier on.

I love how Quitely is often mindful of background details and how these details would look once the "camera" angle is shifted. Definitely makes me pay closer attention to the artwork more than I normally would. Anything by Quitely/Morrison is a classic, in my eyes.

Loves the acknowledgement of Quitely's love for Moebius, you guys missed the direct nod with Stel and Atan's ship from 'The Gardens of Aedena' appearing in Superman's fortress!

I can remember talking to an acquaintance about the all star line of book when they were about to launch and he was adamant the Batman book with Miller and Lee was going to be huge. I love this comic and when someone asks me about the best Superman story this is the one I always mention. I got the floppies and the absolute and I will probably buy the deluxe HC. The only thing I remember about All Star Batman was it was late.

I think the Project is a reference to the Cadmus Project, the super scientific collective Kirby introduced in his run on Jimmy Olson. Morrison incorporated everything

Quintum is a Morrison creation, but some people have theorized that he's Lex Luthor who traveled back in time. I don't think Morrison has ever confirmed nor denied it.

The very best Superman comic. And I dare say it. Very well written, epically drawn, and so tight as a comic that is iconic and gets the essence of Superman eternally right. It’s a great prequel to morrison’s DC 1million book. Aside from that, shadow of colossus is a classic game.
