Emily is the best character in Until Dawn fr, she's funny asf by being bitchy to everyone and everything all the time lfmao, besides her being the character who has the most achievements and her scenes being the best in the entire game, and I won't even highlight her iconic lines "understand the palm of my hand bitch!" or "It was just a prank, han!"

Everyone wants to see a bitchy but smart and not so innocent final girl, but when they get one they focus on all the societal norms of judgment on her. Would I risk being friends with an Emily? No! Would I want her in a survival situation? Yes! (So long as it wasn't a versus, she'd destroy me)

She is funny because you see it from an outside perspective. In real life she would be despicable. The way she treats Matt is awful, she belittles him, lack respect and consideration, call him names, think only about herself at every moment. If it was the reverse I am sure 100% that you would not have liked Matt talking and behaving like that towards Emily, we would have seen he is toxic ect. So yeah it’s pretty concerning to see people laugh and like such a character because it makes us think that in real life you might accept such behaviors or have such behaviors towards people.

@@z_is_everywhere_lmao Well, actually he still has some of the least screentime, cuz he's MIA for 3 chapters straight. Playable segments alone don't dictate screentime. Emily has almost just as much screentime as Matt in the first 6 chapters but she only has 1 playable segment in them. And then she ends up having significantly more screentime than Matt thanks to chapters 7 and 8, with only 3 playable segments the entire game.

I don't really agree with most people's definition of who the main characters in Until Dawn are or who is more important personally. Well, Mike is definitely the lead character if we have to choose one. He gets a lot of attention in every chapter besides the 6th one where he doesn't appear. Even when he's not the character you're playing on-screen he's still really important in all the scenes he's in. However, after that I'd say Chris and Ashley are more so main characters than Sam is. Especially Chris; Ashley's more debatable and even with Sam. Sam keeps fluctuating in and out of the game's relevance. She gets spotlight in the first 2 chapters, and then she's out for almost 3 whole chapters until the end of chapter 5 where she's important again. Then she disappears again until the first part of chapter 7 where she can have a really crucial clue hunt regarding Josh. Then at the end of chapter 9 she turns into a lead character until the end of the game after again being kind of in the background for about a couple of chapters besides having a catching-up with Mike in the basement about everything going on (if Emily's bitten she doesn't do or change much despite being more skeptical of a transformation). People always say you spend the most time with Chris and Ashley in the first half of the game, but that's not the full extent of the truth. In fact, you spend the most time with them for the first 8 chapters (tied with Mike imo), which is over three quarters of the whole game. These two get a lot of attention in the first 8 chapters of the game (except chapter 5 where they don't appear; plus chapter 7 in Ashley's case, she's kinda just there), and arguably even in chapter 9 purely because they can die here. In chapter 9 they're on-screen for less than 10 minutes, and both of Ashley and Chris' playable segments take just a few minutes (and Chris' is only optional even if he's still alive). Their sole purpose seems to be to give more opportunities to kill Ashley and Chris while Sam is on her way to reach Mike (and find a couple of Josh totems). However, that still makes them important in this chapter since they can be killed after all. Chapter 10 is what really shifts everyone's perspective on who the main characters are, cuz Chris and Ashley are just background characters here who only appear in the climax and have like one line (and Chris can't even die in this chapter - the only character who can't). But when you take the whole game into account, it's not quite the case. Josh is a special case, he's only there for like half of the chapters but he's one of the main threats while also being tragic, understandable and fleshed out, and the story ultimately revolves around him in pretty much every aspect. It's hard to even categorize him as either a protagonist, antagonist or anti-hero.

if you look at there actual lines its interesting. Jessica has the 6th most lines despite being basically gone from the game chapter 4 onwards and shes barely in chapter 4 but she still beats out Matt and Josh who are either very playable (Matt) or can't die till the final chapter (Josh). Sam is 5th so considering she represents the final girl its suprising that Ashley, Emily, Chris and Mike all have more lines than her.

@@Rye-lm5ne I'm not sure how perfectly accurate those numbers are, given you'd have to account for every single possible line depending on the choices you make. I feel like Matt definitely would have more than Jess, given that him and Emily are the pair that have the most varied choice dependent dialogue in the game. Do those stats include Matt's second playable segment from chapter 2?

Hello :) Right of the bat, I love that you didn’t include many “unimportant” characters. I never understood why they made their way into so many tier lists, because the majority of them have so little screentime. There are some exceptions, but overall, I’m glad if a tier list focuses more on the important characters :) I’m also glad that you rank the characters based on their depth and not just based on how much you like them. For me, it’s slightly more important that a character is complex, although there are “just likable” characters I would rank pretty high (Erin, Madison etc.). Still, they would be below characters like Ashley or Emily, because I love how complex these are :D Overall, the Until Dawn cast is amazing! Screentime and general importance is also an important factor. They’re the reason why characters like Jessica and Matt would never rank THAT high, as much as I may like them. :-( I was surprised that you took your opinion of another video in order to form this one; after all, your opinions might have changed, which is completely okay :) Not much to say for the Man of Medan cast, but Little Hope is probably the most difficult to rank for me because I have a strong attachment to the game, but fully realize that its characters are not its strongest part XD Then again, if you count all doppelgangers as different aspects of one character (which would be valid in Little Hope’s case, imho), the characters do gain another layer to them, so I dunno. I was happy to see the House of Ashes main cast so high :D Jason is my favorite character, closely followed by Eric, because I’m a sucker for character development and tragic character backstories ;D Out of all games with five playable characters, it definitely had the strongest cast! And then there’s The Quarry, which has my favorite cast of any Supermassive game

this video was really interesting! i'm not sure how i'd tier them myself honestly, other than also putting all of the until dawn characters high. the other games are a lot more hit or miss in terms of their characterisations, and characters can be a bit one dimensional. also, is that a dreamcatcher mongmongie in your background, as well as some of the albums?? the double take i double took when i saw that, i'm a massive fan of theirs and wasn't expecting to see them in an until dawn tierlist video😆😆

Might say more stuff in another comment later, but want to comment on House of Ashes now. I think House of Ashes is the most rewarding for keeping all the characters alive as long as possible like with the stuff you said, Rachel getting cocooned/killing herself or turning into a vampire if she gets killed earlier or refuses to get cocooned and if she does get infected, you get the vision of the alien ship crashing and with Eric, even though it would get Nick killed, it’s kinda cool that if their relationship is low, he’ll say Nick’s call for help after the explosion is just ghost contact. House of Ashes is I’d say is the only game where I like the characters enough where I really really really want to keep all the characters alive, like say if I had to lose my memory of all these games and I had to choose one game to where I’m free to explore all possibilities and all the other games I could only do a playthrough where I kill all the characters as early as possible and miss out on some cool stuff early deaths make you miss, House of Ashes is the one I’d pick to still be able to explore all of.

I woulndt put Hannah on S tier. You can kinda see she's a bit kinda dumb in the prologue, first because she kinda fell for the prank, she kinda overreated because of the prank, i mean, she didnt had to go that far, and then the reason she and her sister died was because of her. The Wendigo is crazily good but even if she kills Josh, she still kinda kill the others wendigos. Which kinda made me a bit confused. So honestly i think that the writing could have been better. I honestly would put Hannah on C or D and Wendigo on A, low A I used the same word many times, sorry

Emma is in my top 5 favorite Supermassive games characters. She's a very misunderstood character who is a complex one at that! She has an impact on the store by having the most important clues and badass scenes. She's literally Emily but more nice and charismatic. They had so much more planned for Emma (as seen with a concept art of her in the mines) but had to cut a lot due to probably Halston being a busy woman at the time and covid. I would 100% put her above jacob, you only like jacob as a character cause he's funny and its zach tinker who is amazing. Imo he isn't that good of a character he's really there for comedy and to be made fun of. also most of his choices are being a jackass, they lowkey tried to make him a male Emily in a way lol. Jacob HAS a huge impact cause he is the reason for what happened but now with the REMAKE of Until Dawn, Jessica is the whole reason we have the plot so she would actually go up higher now

@@i4celeste I will say, I think she's a good character. I like how she IS such a B. The problem I have with Emily is she seems to be a B no matter what happens. Whether she lives or doesn't, regardless of the choices. Where characters like Conrad and Jacob can have some growth in their character, I don't see that with Emily. She can kick butt and have an awesome escape yes, but she just doesn't seem to grow much. The option to have her do so I wish was there. Maybe there is growth but I just never saw it from what I've seen from my own playthrough and other clips. It's cool that she can survive AS a B but in terms of likeability, I really can't find much. She always gets the axe when I play through :p

bro mike carries they would of have all died if it wasnt for bro he was standing on bidness. he slid for jess. then chased who he thought was the killer for revenge. tamed a wolf while he was there. can lose his fingers depending on how u play. presses josh for being a snake. blows multiple things up. gets to safety then decides to go back into the place where the wendigos was at to let off shots. he was BY FAR the best character in the game. idc abt josh trauma hes a snake betrayal loser. and idc if hannah was the monster she didnt make it cool the monster made itself cool. just bc mike was corny at the start of the game dont mean bro didnt do legit all the work basically and was ready for that smoke. the only character that even was anywhere near his level was sam.
