He killed him cause that’s what he wanted him to do. He was tired of living and needed a way out. His “dear old friend” gave him a way out. That’s why he didn’t let his head hit the table. He gently laid it down as a means of respect

An understanding. Vincent made a mistake and got to know the man he had to kill, and that is worlds apart from killing a name on a list. It wounded him, and Tom did an excellent job of showing that Vincent recognizes he shouldn't have spent a meal or a drink or a good conversation with someone he knew he was going to need to eliminate. It's not as easy or as clean. He's simultaneously showing he's affected, maybe hurt even, by this death while also angry at himself for making the mistake of investing himself into someone he knew he was going to kill. That look he gives is a top 1 or 2 Cruise acting moments in his entire career.

What is the point of 4K with this movie? It was shot on low resolution digital cameras for a reason.

What reason?
@alistairmscott3 ай бұрын
At the time 1080 with studio quality lenses and CCDs was not really low resolution. It gave them the freedom to set up and shoot scenes quickly and an aesthetic that went well with the story. I think it's a great looking movie. Not seen it upscaled. I'm guessing they've used some sort of machine learning, I'd be interested to see what kind of post processing artefacts it's introduced.

Marine core move.
@datguitarplayer165612 күн бұрын
The shooting? That is a "Mozambique" drill, and is not taught to enlisted Marines as a matter of practice until or unless they joined Recon/Raider (depending on enlistment time USMC has vasilated on the term). And the hand to hand combat style is certainly not standard practice. That would have been learned during other times, perhaps as contracted by the 3 letter friends or in a JSOC etc environment. Believe it or not, they don't teach Marines how to street fight in an urban environment wearing street clothing. That's something they teach somewhere else....

@datguitarplayer165612 күн бұрын
Inside baseball - it's "ops" not "opps" as in "operations." One P. And if I remember right, I think Mann said the intention was Vincent was a former Army Ranger. Vincent was from the Midwest and joined the Army, not the Navy. Recruiting rates show that low income teens from non coast adjacent states enroll more frequently in the Army branch. And yes, Mann is exactly the kind of person who would have researched that.

I'll never understand why Jamie Fox got such good reviews for his performance in this film. I thought he was terrible, mumbling, no emotion, wooden. And before anyone says anything, yes I know, the character is in shock, and that's how many people act in shock, but truly talented actors can make that compelling, or take another avenue, to me he dragged the whole movie down.

See, there we have a suspension of disbelieve problem. Even a novice jazz aficionado, none the less a long time jazz expert and club owner would have gone on to say, “…then he dropped out and…”. You get it. Even I knew the Davis story and my interest in jazz is about the same as Max. But then he would have had to let him go, not so cool for the script. And the vaunted double tap and Mozambique scene, well… slow it down and look see that the punk thug’s crappy Sig232 that Vincent knocks to thug’s left comes right back across Vincent’s chest to thug’s far right before Vincent is able to draw and fire. You can see the .380 on the ground after. Thug could have tapped him good, likely a gun fight draw being .380. But the script assumes he was surprised I guess and so voila. It would have been believable if the gun would have ended up on Vincent’s far right, knocked out of thug’s hand with the cross punch. Plus, Vincent never took his wallet out but picks it up before he anchor shoots the thug.
@TheMediatorOfChaos14 күн бұрын
He was never letting Daniel go bud, that was the whole point of the scene. Same with Max, he was never going to let him go at the end of the night either. As for the scene where he shoots the junkie and his friend, I mean, I guess, but a tweaker’s reaction time isn’t worth much. The smarter move would’ve just been to them in their backs.
